I'd agree with that @NoseringGirl. Do what you like to me but my babies are different.
They've had all their vaccinations but it's probably the only time I've questioned them at all.

Boredsillyathome · 31/12/2020 20:42

Hi positive people, love this thread!

Blerg · 31/12/2020 20:46

Welcome returners and new people. Glad to be here.

Saw on another thread that the dates on the vaccination calculator are moving because it now takes account of the larger gap before your estimated second jab.

My big positivity that I’m focusing on is gratitude for what I’ve got and my family. I’m a very anxious doom mongering type usually but an actual pandemic has helped me get perspective on what matters and seen that even in the dark times there are many good things I wouldn’t have anticipated.

Poppyliveshere · 31/12/2020 21:11

I was on the very early good news threads as the others terrified me, but I too have been sucked back in and feel miserable so I’d like to come back please Smile

GoldenOmber · 31/12/2020 21:52

One million people in the UK have now had the first dose of the vaccine. Smile

FuzzyPuffling · 31/12/2020 21:54

That IS good news GoldenOmber. Keep going lovely vaccinators!

Thank you so much for these thoughtful answers. I think you're right about our faith in the NHS - for all its faults, there's never any suspicion that it's corrupt or venal. Over-stretched, inefficient, chaotic etc, but that its heart is in the right place.

Reminds me of a friend who has a child with a very serious genetic illness. She and her husband have been genome sequenced by the NHS (or a scientific body connected to it) in order to find out more about the very rare combination that led to their child's disability. She said they would never have given it up had they been in the States as they felt they were contributing to a greater good in a way that wouldn't have been so obvious there.

For all its faults, god bless the NHS and all who work there. This is just another reason why we must do all we can, especially in a deregulated post Brexit world.

PatienceVirtue · 31/12/2020 22:13

And massive thank you to all the volunteer vaccinators. I'm not sure what skills I have to offer. I think my junkie neighbour is good at injecting, but I'm not sure I'd want him wielding the needle.

OrangeBananaFish · 31/12/2020 22:46

A million people been vaccinated, that's great. Hopefully by the time the end of jan comes we will have the capacity to be able to grow the weekly figure.

feelingverylazytoday · 31/12/2020 22:56

@GoldenOmber

One million people in the UK have now had the first dose of the vaccine. Smile
The first vaccine was given on the 8th, that's a million in 23 days, 1 in 67 of the population. A good start, it's sure to speed up now with the AZ vaccine. Can't find any good news today, so will just wish everyone on the thread a happy new year.
FourTeaFallOut · 31/12/2020 23:08

On the further details of the vaccine figure it says:

Data was provided by NHS England for the combined period 8-20 December 2020, which is included in the UK values for the week ending 20 December 2020.

So I imagine the real figure is higher than the 1m figure. Not that I don't think that the Oxford vaccine isn't far more scalable - just that I don't think the pace is as slow as is suggested without that information.

Brunt0n · 31/12/2020 23:23

Parking my bum here because this is the only thread that doesn’t make me want to poke my own eyes out

2020CanDoOne · 31/12/2020 23:44

My (nhs) neighbour has had the vaccine! Happier 2021 everyone. X

boon · 31/12/2020 23:49

FuzzyPuffling · 01/01/2021 08:15

And we're nearer spring than autumn, so the weather will improve and that helps to duff the virus up.
May 2021 be the year we stick together and grow through this! 😁

Glad to find this thread! Hello everyone!

I feel like a lot conversations I'm having seem to turn in to pessimism competitions 😂

1.Should be OK by Spring
2.Spring? Wow you're optimistic. Spring 2022 maybe.
3.2022? Ha, very optimistic. Perhaps there'll be a small uptick in wellbeing in the 30s if we all follow the rules

  1. 30s? Pah! Not in our lifetime
Etc etc

Bore off!!

I think people are acting out their insecurities. They don’t know what’s going to happen (none of us do) so they’re resorting to making up facts and believing them as it’s better (to them) than not knowing.

It’s bloody annoying though Grin

TeaInTheGarden · 01/01/2021 10:56

Happy new year positive peeps!
