Is it hell or is it ok??

Today was due to be the day for 'the big Christmas shop'

I'm going to look like a proper panic buying twat with my loaded Christmas trolley aren't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes I went to M&S when it opened at 6am and was fine. Quite busy when I left at 6.45 though 😬

Flowerpot345 · 21/12/2020 09:09

I haven't, hopefully people have more sense and just get their normal Christmassy shop.
Good luck op.

My local Sainsbury's was really quiet at 7.30. I went early to stock up after the DC have emptied the fridge this weekend. I was worried about panic buyers but like I said, very quiet.

Hobbesmanc · 21/12/2020 09:09

Waitrose car park was full at 7.30 and turning people away but the bigger supermarkets looked ok- just the usual Christmas rush

Mamamia456 · 21/12/2020 09:11

Hopefully the supermarkets will be limiting items so that people can't panic buy.

chomalungma · 21/12/2020 09:11

Went at 5am. I am busy this week with work so wanted to make sure I got there before the crowds. Only 3 people at that time including someone who works in emergency planning.

ssd · 21/12/2020 09:12

Am going in the next hour.
What will be will be.

Jinglealltheway22 · 21/12/2020 09:12

Eugh we have to go today.

Our fridge isn't big enough to stock up for a family of 7 for ore than a couple of days (new house with integrated fridge).

Not looking forward to it.

titchy · 21/12/2020 09:13

Sainsbury's was ok first thing.

DailyPotion · 21/12/2020 09:14

I was planning to go this afternoon on the assumption that those feeling stressed about it will go this morning.

pandora206 · 21/12/2020 09:14

I went to local Sainsburys as 7 am and almost empty. It was worth getting up early to avoid the crowds.

N4ish · 21/12/2020 09:14

In Tesco at 7.30, all quiet with no queues. Full shelves everywhere. Only thing I couldn’t get was bananas. No sign of any panic or stress.

Artus · 21/12/2020 09:16

We always shop on Monday morning but went an hour and a half earlier. M&S and Morrison's both quiet and well stocked. M& S staff said no supply issues at the moment and most Christmas stock already in cold storage in this country.

yellowmaoampinball · 21/12/2020 09:16

We are planning on going this evening, I'm hoping all the panic buyers will have gone first thing and maybe they'll be stocking back up.

cravingmilkshake · 21/12/2020 09:18

Fingers crossed it's ok. Ours is tomorrow evening and have nothing left in the house so hope we haven't left it too late!

Drivingho · 21/12/2020 09:19

I went to Aldi at 7. Quiet when I got there but filling up as I left.
Very well stocked with everything except mincemeat and mayonnaise!

Flowerpot345 · 21/12/2020 09:21

Ahh lovely to see people have more sense and aren't panic buying everywhere.
Facts are most people wouldn't be able to store or afford to stock up for a considerable amount of time so we may as well carry on as normal so everyone has enough of everything, it's Christmas there will be more stock and more than enough food for everyone.

ferretface · 21/12/2020 09:22

Waitrose at 8 was busy but broadly normal for the time of year. Finished our Christmas shop, didn't fancy leaving it until the 23rd this year.

Plussizejumpsuit · 21/12/2020 09:23

Yep! Absolutely fine. I went to a huge tesco and it was not busy at all. Staff on tills sitting doing nothing. The lovely lady who served me said she'd been in since 5.30 am and I was her 3rd customer.

I also overheard somone on the fruit and veg section saying they were struggling to fins space for stock in the back and it was all over the place. The shelves we full sticked too. With extra fruit and veg crates out for Christmassy veg.

I used to work in supermarkets. They will have their wearhouses sticked with what they need for Christmas now. No need to worry

Blacktothepink · 21/12/2020 09:25

I went to Sainsbury’s at 6am and very few shoppers but lots of pickers for the home deliveries.

MobLife · 21/12/2020 09:25

This is all very reassuring!

Husband was in Aldi at 8am, car park was packed. Luckily he cycled and only needed a few bits so was in and out quite quickly.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 21/12/2020 09:26

I went to Tesco at 6am. Hardly any shoppers, but soooo many staff and soooo many sprouts.

ThelmaNotLouise · 21/12/2020 09:27

Yes! Outside our big Sainsbury's for 6am opening. Not too busy going round, but by the time I left at 6.50 the car park was filling up. Weirdly the wine shelves were looking a bit sparse. Plenty of turkey crowns though!

RedskyAtnight · 21/12/2020 09:27

Went at 8. It was not too bad when I got there, but by the time I left (8.30) it was getting to normal Saturday busy levels. I expect it will be heaving later.
