Is it hell or is it ok??

Today was due to be the day for 'the big Christmas shop'

I'm going to look like a proper panic buying twat with my loaded Christmas trolley aren't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
AmberAndAlexsMum · 21/12/2020 09:28

Sainsbury's at 6am and it was quiet and relaxed. I just got Christmas food and stuff, I'm not panic buying. I don't agree with it.

Duggeehugs82 · 21/12/2020 09:28

Yes went to my local m and s at 6 am when it opned and it was busy! Went next door to aldi and it was so quiet loved it!

sansou · 21/12/2020 09:28

Aldi at 7:30 am was fine. Car park full at 8 am and no small trolleys left when I left and people starting to queue at the entrance.

MissEllaWater · 21/12/2020 09:29

@BradleyCooperwillbemine

I went to Tesco at 6am. Hardly any shoppers, but soooo many staff and soooo many sprouts.
This is exactly the reassurance I need - Christmas without sprouts would be the final cherry on top of the shitcake of 2020!
BrieAndChilli · 21/12/2020 09:29

I’m hoping that any panic buyers will be getting bins and bog roll. I can’t imagine people panic buying Christmas items?! I just need fresh fruit and veg, some dairy and some extra treats for Christmas really so hopefully that will all still be there -planning to go 6am tomorrow!

ThelmaNotLouise · 21/12/2020 09:29

@MobLife

This is all very reassuring!
If you're going now though, it's going to be a lot busier, especially as people have woken up to the news that the food supply chain might be compromised by the travel bans.
chomalungma · 21/12/2020 09:32

I wouldn't have known about the freight issues without having un unhealthy obsession with social media and MN late on a Sunday evening

cliffdiver · 21/12/2020 09:35

Sainsbury's was very busy at 7am.

SE England (Tier 2).

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/12/2020 09:35

We are going for our weekly shop as late as possible tonight

The only Christmas stuff i want, which we might struggle with, is dips

Its onions and peppers of all things which i need

itsgettingweird · 21/12/2020 09:36

Dropped ds at swim training at 7.50.

Went to towns Aldi thinking I'd be queuing round the block in the rain and may have to go straight back for him (finishes 10.30).

Was home and unpacked and kettle on an hour after leaving him Grin

It was busy for a Monday morning but no queuing.

99% of people extremely sensible and walking down aisles in a queue.

Every now and again someone would appear from nowhere and walk across everyone and hang over and grab what they wanted.

I may have blocked them when spotted by pushing my trolley further forward Wink

Freddiefox · 21/12/2020 09:36

It was fine, not busy, No queues

Ilikewinter · 21/12/2020 09:36

Original plan was normal xmas food shopping this morning, however i woke up early so secided to just get up and go.....asda was brisk but not too busy, lots of staff picking orders though. Car park was filling up as i left. Glad i didnt leave it until later today....now i get to enjoy my day off 😊

CupboardOfJoy · 21/12/2020 09:37

I went to Tesco at 6:30am, very few customers in there but absolutely rammed with order pickers. Fruit and veg aisles couldn't move for staff, I think at one point I was the only actual customer in the aisle but heard a picker complaining that they shouldn't have let customers in the shop!
All the shelves were full, looked to be plenty of everything, including turkeys.

ChikiTIKI · 21/12/2020 09:37

I went to Aldi yesterday and it was fine. Bit busy, but not too crowded.

itsgettingweird · 21/12/2020 09:37

I usually shop Monday evening when he trains so it's my usual day but his timetable has changed for Xmas holidays.

TodgerStrunk · 21/12/2020 09:38

Just had our Waitrose delivery and they didn't have any sprouts or bread sauce in stock Shock

Frazzlefrazle · 21/12/2020 09:38

I went this morning at 7.45. Totally fine. Just didn't have carrots for some reason.

wantmorenow · 21/12/2020 09:38

South Wales here. arrived at 7, was like a Saturday afternoon. well stocked though and no panic buying just people doing big xmas shops.

rates through roof here so I guess people doing a large single shop rather than several smaller ones. That's me done now until after xmas.

Littlegoth · 21/12/2020 09:38

Aldi at 7 was hell. By the time I was done at 8, Morrison’s was heaving (drove past)

Dreading picking up pre ordered food from butcher tomorrow.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/12/2020 09:38

I can remember working at Tesco as a teen and the queues used to go halfway down the aisles at Christmas. I quite enjoyed it! Grin

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 21/12/2020 09:38

Sainsburys, arrived 8.45ish. Was fine. Was still fine when I left at 9ish, and not many people around in general. Good stock of everything.

Alez · 21/12/2020 09:39

Just been to Tesco. We're having to stay at home instead of going to parents so didn't have much in the house at all. It was fine, and there was plenty of Christmas stuff. We tried to go to Waitrose though and you couldn't even get in the car park! Tells you who it is who panic buys doesn't it.

Goatscheesewithhoney · 21/12/2020 09:39

We always run out of red cabbages locally at Christmas. They are like gold dust

ilovesushi · 21/12/2020 09:40

It's going to be heaving later isn't it. Maybe I'll get up early tomorrow and do a quick run around. Christmas day plans are still up in the air, so don't whether I'm cooking for my brother's family too or just us.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/12/2020 09:40

Morrisons at 6.45 was very quiet.
