Is it hell or is it ok??

Today was due to be the day for 'the big Christmas shop'

I'm going to look like a proper panic buying twat with my loaded Christmas trolley aren't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just - that made me laugh! Nothing much to laugh about these days.

Its Turkey btw. They literally wont hear any reasons or excuses as to why someone cannot/wont wear a mask. I know, its not the British way to behave like this but I have to say I would be demanding no mask/no entry. It wont be forever and some people will have very good reasons but at this current time they are going to have to rethink if they want to enter a shop at a busy time and then say they are not going to wear a mask for xx reason.

I would also ban ALL demos until further notice.

Shieldingending · 21/12/2020 10:20

Booths was fine, busier than a usual Monday morning but not bad. Plenty of stock and I felt people were social distancing more than usual

Bathroom12345 · 21/12/2020 10:23

I would definitely not be going to a huge supermarket at present. I needed some bread and milk yesterday so went to our local Waitrose which is also a petrol station. In and out (and got some petrol at the same time).

My normal choices are Aldi (for specific things like cleaning products, loo roll, kitchen towels etc and maybe milk and I dont mind their fresh fruit). M&S food for normal stuff and I like their meat.

Noidea2114 · 21/12/2020 10:23

I got to Asda at 9.10am have just done a normal shop. Arrived home at 9.45am. No queues plenty of stock on the shelves.
Won't be going again until next Tuesday.

cushioncovers · 21/12/2020 10:24

I think supermarkets will be manic tomorrow when the bbc have finish scaremongering on tonight's news.

HmmSureJan · 21/12/2020 10:24

Yes been to two. They were fine. Not busy at all.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 21/12/2020 10:24

My local (big) co op was peaceful and fully stocked just now.

Bathroom12345 · 21/12/2020 10:25

Cushion - I SO agree. They need to stop this!

cologne4711 · 21/12/2020 10:26

@SansaSnark

Yeah I do wonder why people insist on taking two adults or a bored teen food shopping at the moment!
Maybe they get the bored teen away from the xbox to help carry stuff Grin

Completely agree with the family/couples shopping though. There is no need unless you have a disability. And those who say they don't drive, send the driver with a list or leave the driver in the car while you go in.

I am off for a walk so might take a look in town to see if it's busy. Don't really need anything though as DH did the Xmas shop yesterday.

My local taxi company put a post out on facebook saying people may have the right not to wear a mask but that their drivers have the right to refuse to take them if they don't call and inform the company first (so that individual drivers have a choice to take the job or not). Seems perfectly reasonable, but the comments were insane- full of things like "human rights" and "free choice" etc etc.
DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 21/12/2020 10:27

By "right not to wear"- I'm assuming they meant exempt people, not people who just don't fancy it. Not sure how they would differentiate, mind you.

cologne4711 · 21/12/2020 10:28

@WinterIsGone

For anyone interested, you can search for the particular supermarket on Google, and (on a desktop) in the right-hand bar, it often gives you a graph for how busy the supermarket is. (Actually, for our Tesco Extra, I think it includes the petrol station.) I don't know how accurate it is though Grin
I think it's quite good but can change rapidly. A few months ago I went to Lidl because it said it wasn't busy and when I got there, there was a queue to get in. So I tried another local one and there was no queue for that one and I was in and out in about 5 minutes!
BlueBrian · 21/12/2020 10:28

Sainsbury's says port restrictions may lead to missing products on UK shelves

Well if the panic buying hasn't started already it definitely will now.

Wolfff · 21/12/2020 10:31

I went to our Sainsbury’s local. Shelves are stocked. Plenty of fruit and veg. A bit busier than normal on a Monday morning though.

winechateauxjoy · 21/12/2020 10:32

There at 7 - Morrisons - just to get my Christmas Day veg. It was very quiet and the shelves were piled high. And I am in lockdowned Wales, so despite rumours to the contrary - no areas were cordoned off - you could buy all the non essential stuff your heart desires.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 21/12/2020 10:34

In Waitrose now and there are a lot of very very full trolleys - Christmas stuff mainly

chomalungma · 21/12/2020 10:38

The French government has said that “in the next few hours” it will establish
a “protocol to ensure that movement from the UK can resume”.

In a post shared on Twitter by the French embassy in the UK, French transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari said: “In the next few hours, at European level, we’re going to establish a solid health protocol to ensure that movement from the UK can resume.

“Our priority: to protect our nationals and our fellow citizens.”

Bathroom12345 · 21/12/2020 10:38

I honestly think exempt people will have to think again. Its not their human right to not wear a mask. Its not as though those people are CV19 free are they. Do you want a loved one to catch it and then say its OK because that person had a legitimate reason not to wear one.

I know - its not right but its being abused and abused.

Saw an old guy last week, grubby mask hanging off his face. Getting too close to people in the supermarket.

And lets not get started on the ones who have their noses poking out. Stupid fools.

Babana123 · 21/12/2020 10:39

ASDA was fine at 8.30am. Plenty of parking. No panic buying. Loads of online pickers in the shop though blocking the isles.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 21/12/2020 10:40

Had to queue at Waitrose for 20 minutes at 9.00am this morning which is unheard of - I always do my shopping Monday morning as it's generally quiet.

It was very well stocked and no evidence of panic buying. I have no plans to go shopping now until NYE when I'll need to restock for my (virtual) birthday party

WanderingMilly · 21/12/2020 10:40

I went early...BBC news reporting supermarkets will have bare shelves in a matter of days if the blockades aren't lifted as they don't have enough fresh food.

I decided it wasn't worth risking and went at 5.45am as our Tesco's is 24 hours for Christmas week. I was stunned to see a stream of cars already leaving, many people at the checkouts too...I thought it would be shelf-stackers only!

I have certainly stocked up in case, it will all get used anyway. However, I think supermarkets are saying they already have all the Christmas stock they need, it's just the ongoing stuff that won't be replenished if things stay blocked.....

Rosiedo · 21/12/2020 10:40

I was at Asda and Farmfoods this morning, I’m in Scotland, it was fine x

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/12/2020 10:41

I’m going out for milk. Wish me luck 😬

I feel sorry for people who are genuinely exempt. They are being lumped in with people who don't want to wear a mask and have just ordered a lanyard from Amazon.

I simply don't believe that 100% of people who claim to be exempt are. I would never challenge anybody or draw assumptions on an individual person, though.

TheDizzyRascal · 21/12/2020 10:42

wow! I'm not planning on going until Wednesday evening so I think you're very organised going today! x
