Do you think we will be in full lockdown again in January?

@ChristmasTreeFairy5000

Yup. Even the schools are closed in Wales with this next lockdown. Xmas AngryGinGinGin
I think that’s what will be needed here, January and February given the r rate today, case numbers and that’s before the allowed mixing let alone all those that will mix outside the dates or with more people.

@SomewhereEast

Soooo given Lockdown 2 has had a limited impact overall (its when the south-east started to take off) & the vaccine will take time to roll out, Lockdown 3 in January presumably means Lockdown 4 in March. And given public engagement noticeably decreased between Lockdown 1 and Lockdown 2, it won't exactly improve for Lockdown 3. Also how will he flog thid one to his MPs? The last one was flogged as giving-us-a-normal-Christmas, presumably the next one will be last-one-before-normality-returns. Except I think it we go for a third than a fourth is baked in down the line, because we've seen the finite impact of Lockdown 2.

So its a shit futile idea designed to cover the government's arse for another month, so yes it'll totally happen

It didn't have a limited overall impact. It was bringing the numbers down. The limited impact was caused by ending the lockdown when cases were still around 15,000 new cases a day.

If the PM hadn't been trying to appeal to the 'mad fucker' section of the Tory party to get the lockdown to pass we wouldn't have had this problem. The number of active cases would have been lower going into Christmas which would have limited it's impact slightly. That would probably have pushed the third lockdown back a bit and we'd have been further into the vaccine roll out by the time it happened.

Allgreyeverything · 18/12/2020 16:37

Many European countries are announcing post Christmas lockdowns, inclusive of a 6pm-6am curfew on New Year’s Eve. So yes, I am definitely expecting more of the same

BiggerBoat1 · 18/12/2020 16:37

I think its inevitable, but hopefully a proper lockdown with shops, hairdressers, gyms and schools closed.

Hopefully Confused why people want this - - strange. Aren’t you sick of lockdown by now?
IntermittentParps · 18/12/2020 16:43

if we’d had a shorter one over the October half term or a couple of weeks extension on the one we had we would be in a much better place to keep a handle on infections. I've said this all along. It seemed such an obvious time to do it and it's so frustrating that the government has prevaricated and ignored advice so much.

Tier 3 here. It has meant that classes have opened back up such as swimming lessons and ballet.
I'm in Tier 3 and indoor classes at gyms etc are not allowed. I think swimming pools can open (and saunas and steam rooms, which I think is a bit Hmm), but am not sure if they can run organised classes.

IntermittentParps · 18/12/2020 16:43

Aren’t you sick of lockdown by now? We need a proper one –everything shut back down, including schools –rather than these half-arsed efforts and breaks for Christmas.

God no. But people can do their own if they want.
Crumpetycrump · 18/12/2020 16:45

I don’t think shorter lockdowns work unfortunately e.g. Wales’ Fire Break and Norther Ireland’s circuit break.

Firebreaks do bugger all. Look at Wales.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/12/2020 16:52

@Baileysforchristmas

How long do you think it will last for, until March, April?
God I hope not.

If they do I won't be only going out once a day, if I want more than one walk a day I'll go, and I'll be going to the shop when I want, not waiting until I need something 'essential'. I'm not going down the road of worrying about going out any more.

BiggerBoat1 · 18/12/2020 16:53

Of course I'm sick of lockdowns. I'm also sick of feeling afraid, of missing my family and hearing of people I know dying.

We need to get this virus under control. The only way to stop it spreading is to keep people apart from each other. While we've got people going to the hairdressers, cramming into shops and children elbow to elbow in schools we just won't be able to stop the spread.

At least if we had a other full lockdown we could get the numbers down and buy a bit of time to get testing and vaccination working as effectively as possible. (maybe by taking the contracts away from Hancock and Boris's mates!)

Hopefully? There's some very strange people on MN. I've never met anyone in real life who wants a 'proper' lockdown.

@FixTheBone that reminds me of this Brian Bilston poem!

RedRiverShore · 18/12/2020 16:57

MN is one of those weird places that doesn't really reflect real life.

Allispretty · 18/12/2020 16:59

Yes but I think it'll come at the last minute yet again because they fanny on so much making decisions.

I think they'll do another month lockdown about mid January

Bushola · 18/12/2020 17:00

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay what an up your own a*se pompous middle class Person you sound.

Those “mad fuckers” you call them are the only thing preventing the full fascism and bonfire of jobs in the U.K. of it wasn’t them we’d be stuck in a continuous fight with Drakeford and Wee willy Kranky over who can have the toughest restrictions.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/12/2020 17:00

What’s the point? Lockdown doesn’t work.
