Do you think we will be in full lockdown again in January?

I'm not complying with another lock down until all the MH Community based services get fully back to work including admin staff so that as key workers they provide the very best services they can. If I can adjust my office space for social distancing to ensure my stakeholders receive the usual standards of service then every single worker in the NHS should be doing the same. I will not lock down for the NHS again whilst they are providing reduced services.

RedRiverShore · 19/12/2020 04:47

The papers are salivating over it, they also do over the thought of no deal Brexit, it's a very good time for the newspapers at the moment. Good news like the vaccine will pale into insignificance in the papers with all this yummy bad news about, they will be torn between lockdown and Brexit.

Can't be a lockdown without schools shut though. I suppose it will be like the one in November only maybe a bit stricter with non essential retail. At least an all over lockdown is not divisive like the tiers ones.

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 07:49

@Requinblanc the last lockdown did work, the infection rate reduced and impressively so in some areas.

The government can't 'work in improving vaccine capacity' unless the Oxford vaccine is approved and sufficiently effective. Production and therefore capacity of the other vaccines is out of their control- all they can do is wait for the vaccine that they already purchased (long wait given demand), or try to purchase more (long queue given demand).

dingledongle · 19/12/2020 08:04

The lockdown never worked in Kent, the numbers went up massively during 'lockdown' and then after lockdown my dd caught it at school and lost another 3 wks of her education Sad

The lcokdown did not work as it was being spread through schools 😫

The government have mismanaged the whole thing another lockdown, unless schools are shut too, will not work imo

dingledongle · 19/12/2020 08:09

And so far they have not said how many people have been vaccinated, 100,000 I think the C4 mews said last night 😳

Blimey how long will it take until they have vaccinated everyone else 🤷‍♀️

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 19/12/2020 08:10

Lockdown isn't working unless they CLOSE THE SCHOOLS. What's the fucking point of any of this??

toycat · 19/12/2020 08:23

Tier 3 slowed it in Manchester but it was the second lockdown that made the difference. Rates are creeping up again a bit here now, though nowhere near as steep as in London/South East

PopsicleHustler · 19/12/2020 08:32

Yes, because everyone wants to bring 100 relatives together, couldn't give a hoot about the elderly and let coronavirus get even worse.

Fan bloody tastic.

bellinisurge · 19/12/2020 09:07

If "Johnson wants to avoid a lockdown " is the headline it means we will have another lockdown.
The shitty " let's put the idea out there and see how it goes in the meejah " strategy the government has for communication is the contemptuous shite that keeps us in this terrible mess.

dingledongle · 19/12/2020 09:10

A January lockdown so everyone can get together over Christmas Sad

Surely a Christmas Lockdown and then people can move on in the New Year?

Nah, that would be following the science Wink

lubeybooby · 19/12/2020 09:38

I hope so, we've GOT to get these numbers down and really shouldn't be allowing xmas mixing

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2020 09:38

Bbc this morning :

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55372743
Covid: Ministers meet amid rising infection rates in England

Ministers met on Friday to discuss what action will be necessary to deal with it, but a Downing Street source said the government is "not there yet" on rethinking Christmas plans

Why did they meet again yesterday?

Sounds ominous.

I think you're concept of a careful Christmas to set us up for a brighter and more hopeful 2021 would have been a much more sensible approach.

I'm not sure any wonderful Christmas day is worth the fall out. I do love Christmas but nothing would convince me this is a good plan.

DH now has Covid and is isolating in one room desperately hoping he doesn't get any worse and need a hospital bed- so Christmas is all but cancelled in our home this year, and that's ok as long as he gets better.

ancientgran · 19/12/2020 11:05

Good luck Chaotic, I hope he is OK.

AliceMcK · 19/12/2020 11:13

There needs to be a full lockdown like the first one, minimum 2 months, but actually making it illegal to break the rules. Full national guard and military support, no protests, no gatherings only leaving home for essentials. This is the only way we have a chance to recover like China.

Before anyone starts, yes it goes against all the free will bullshit but if we had this the first time round we would not be where we are now.

Having vaccines is one thing, but now we have new strains. The only way to stop it spreading is by not giving it a chance to spread.

I agree 100%. Really get cases to drop and allow chance to get the vaccines out.

Lockdowns where you can still go shopping for Christmas gifts and schools open isn’t a lockdown as huge numbers still mixing.

Did you know that, just to take two examples, child poverty and incidents of DV are increasing as a result of these lockdowns? And you want more of that?

Definitely not. But you can do your own version if you wish

Scary that people beg for us to be more like China, to tackle an illness with a 99% survival rate.

Rosehip10 · 19/12/2020 11:57

@AliceMcK what "national guard"? This isn't America......
