Anyone else in South Australia? New lockdown - no exercise outside the house alloed

I must admit I was shocked at how strict this lockdown is. Most of it I can live with but I must admit I’m struggling that we’re not allowed to leave the house apart from grocery shopping - even for exercise or dog walking. Yes, they’ve told us it’s only for six days but it’s hard to know who to believe. I’m not sure I feel comfortable with this level of restriction.

The government is disappointed with the panic buying but what do they expect when we can now be stopped and questioned by Police any time we leave the house?

What happens if you don’t have a garden for a dog ? How does it go to the toilet ?

No idea. I’ve wondered the same thing.

Luckily most people here with a dog have a garden but there still be some living in apartments.

Not in SA, but in Victoria. Feeling for you all - what a stressful time. Our experience would suggest it might be a bit longer than planned but will work.

Hi - yep am in SA. Yes quite shocked at the severity of this lockdown. but i can rationalise why they are going "hard and fast"- we can (and prob will) stamp this out. i suppose thats the difference between a cluster like this and places with established and continued widespread transmission.
i do think no exercise is wrong - perhaps within distance of home.

i think its a natural reaction for people to panic buy - trying to control what they can in a uncontrollable situation is a total normal reaction. its something the govt knew would happen. the police commissioner did not at all look pleased with having to announce all the directions.

6 days - lets hope so.....

I’m just glad I work in government job with good leave and won’t be out of pocket. Feel for all the businesses out there.

When I heard that they’re still having private security officers from hotel quarantine that work in second jobs I was fucking furious. Not at the worker but at the system. Have they learnt nothing from Victoria?

I'm in Melbourne and the no exercise rule is a tough one but I'm guessing it's a circuit breaker. From day one in Vic we were allowed one hour's exercise, and most used it to walk the dog.

A possible problem I see is the encouragement to wear masks instead of insisting. It was handled fairly well in Victoria, with a variety of face coverings mandated on the first round, making it easier for everyone to comply. Who hasn't got a scarf? Only on the second lockdown were fitted masks mandated, once everyone had got used to the idea, and now they are the only ones permitted.

Wow that’s strict. What are your infection rates per 100k like there? Interesting to know, for comparison to here in UK.

@Judashascomeintosomemoney I can't do the /100,000 figures (not smart enough!), but South Australia has a population of about 1.4 million, mostly in Adelaide.

As of today, they has 35 active virus cases. One cluster of 23 that has escaped from hotel quarantine that is causing all the angst.

Wow @TyrannyOfDistance that is about what we had in a cluster locally in Scotland and basically nothing changed.

Does anyone know what will happen about dogs etc. Seems so strict.

to moderate the degree of lockdown and ensure freedoms are eventually returned) will look pretty different at the end of this. The disproportionate impact on the poorest will probably lead to rioting.

Rural SA here
Shocked how harsh it is, especially for us rural areas where we still have no cases. They all in Adelaide.
I'm lucky, I'm working in a supermarket so can still leave house for that and as I don't drive, i cant and work is 45km away, dp drives me, so him and dd at least get to go for a drive. She can't stay home, not old enough in our eyes, plus she wouldn't agree to it.
I've already been told by my boss we are NOT to ask people to mask up.
Dd happy she gets a few days off school though lol
Come dead of night dp will still be able to go for a fish, both cops would be in bed unless called in.

I must admit I was expecting more than 2 new cases being announced today.
We get 6 days of hard lockdown to allow for people to get tested and for contact tracing then a further 7 days of gyms and things being shut.

Up until this blip Nicola Spurrier has dealt with things well.

It does seem harsh that you can’t take dogs out for 10 minutes.

I wish ours was stricter like that. It has a good chance of really lowering cases so it doesn’t spread.

Here we have people shopping for non essentials, breaking isolation, refusing to wear masks and SD seems to have gone out the window for many given how many have new dates, pics on SM etc. You wouldn’t think there was a lockdown.

There seems to be broad (though not universal) support for these kinds of lockdown here in Oz. Perhaps because we can look half a world away at the shit show that is the US and what appears to be ongoing confusion and devastation in the UK and think how much worse it could be.

Victoria, where I am, is still emerging from 15 weeks of a very tough lockdown. Similar, I think, to what Ireland is in now - in fact, we are told they modelled theirs on ours, but who knows if that is true.

It has been undeniably tough, particularly for some (and not aided by a lack of support, financial and emotional, from our federal govt).

But today we had our 19th day on end with no cases at all. And, importantly, no deaths. That's an indescribable feeling.

The hotel quarantine worker thing is astonishing indeed. They only had to look to Melbourne FGS.

Oh, blimey! Meanwhile I’m in an area of the UK with 589 cases per 100k, and you’d be forgiven for thinking there was no lockdown at all if you ever venture outside your front door

ermm i may be underestimating us but i cant see Adelaideans rioting.... and for as hard as this will be, government support is there in some capacities. 23 cases since sunday (excluding returned travellers) - This is to avoid Melbourne style long shut down. honestly the announcement of the imminent closure of west end brewery got more of a rise out of people.... you can take our freedom of movement but dont you dare take our iconic drinks and frog cakes (plus were serial, silent and deadly in Adl than raging crowds...)

If it works, great. Only problem is what’s to say it won’t escape out of quarantine again? Then once again we’ll be back at square one.

It seems to me after Melbourne and now Adelaide that having zero tolerance for Corona and hotel quarantine in the middle of the city aren’t really compatible with each other.

I raised my concerns about the the harshness of restrictions with some of my work colleagues but they were all wanting to trust the government without question. The same government that told us there was no risk to the public from Covid positive international arrivals

I read about this this morning and couldn't help wondering if it wouldn't be better than the long drawn out semi-lockdown we've been in for ages. I think I instinctively prefer short and strict lockdown when numbers are still low, that ship has long sailed in the west of Scotland though, we're in it for the long haul again I think.
