Anyone else in South Australia? New lockdown - no exercise outside the house alloed

bluetongue · 18/11/2020 07:50

I must admit I was shocked at how strict this lockdown is. Most of it I can live with but I must admit I’m struggling that we’re not allowed to leave the house apart from grocery shopping - even for exercise or dog walking. Yes, they’ve told us it’s only for six days but it’s hard to know who to believe. I’m not sure I feel comfortable with this level of restriction.

The government is disappointed with the panic buying but what do they expect when we can now be stopped and questioned by Police any time we leave the house?

Even Oscar Wilde got one hour outdoor exercise per day in his Victorian Prison

I think people who are not here are more perturbed by this whole thing than any of us actually in it!

It'll be six days of strict measures then another two weeks of lockdown-light (no school etc). My prediction. Your kids won't be back at school till after xmas.

This is the price of not ensuring people are paid a living wage in secure employment.

^^ with bells on.

No cases today, you lot, and 12,000 tests. Super effort, keep it up.

Down under we seem to value zero community transmission a whole lot.

ermm i may be underestimating us but i cant see Adelaideans rioting....

Neither, ive joked the reason lockdown round 1 went well in SA is we already stay home a lot. Mostly cos there nothing to do but also cos a good percentage smoke weed

This made me smile. DH and I were discussing this this morning.
First of all what is the point of a blanket rule given the remoteness of some communities and secondly how on earth can they hope to emforce it?

Exactly and reality is they cant enforce it out here cos they dont put cops on after like 7pm. If we call a cop out after then they come from couple towns over or the local gets woken up to come in. I dont see him dragging his ass out of bed to go to jetty or treking down beach paths to find lone fishermen

Our school holidays start mid december so good chance no school till end of Jan next year when it would normally go back.
Ive already told dd we wont bother with online for a couple weeks if they do it, not worth the headfuck and angst. We got her set up with an online tutor thats engaging to her first time round, kept it up even after school went back and will just do same again. They dont expect we all own a top of the line laptop or desktop with camera, microphone and huge possessor to run their session, unlike dd school. Same school which dont have enough devices to loan to all students that will need it

I'm next door in WA, and we are all rooting for you all in SA. Well done on zero cases today, hopefully this short lock down will be enough to contain things. I'd certainly give up exercise for a few days if the alternative is months of lighter lockdown. I know its tough, but its better than letting things rage out of control like Europe or USA. Hopefully the vaccine will be here soon, but until then stay safe indoors!

this x 100

this should be one of our most important lessons from the shitshow that is 2020

0 cases today after highest testing rate (12000) (which i know some will scoff at but that is huge for our population), im very optimistic that weve caught it before it got a run on... (armchair expert i am)

Surely there has to be a blanket rule or everyone will be doing different things. Someone 2km down the road from an exempt area will say well what about them up the road, they're exempt so what about us, we're not following the rules if they don't need to, it's nonsense. Then someone 1km aaqat will say the same about them. Then someone 2km from them will say the same thing. And so on. Pushing it bit by bit.

Honestly if I was given the option of 6 days no exercise or 4 bloody months of lockdown and curfew, I'd definitely take the no exercise!

This times a million.

Zero cases is great but being the cynical person I am I can’t help but worry because everyone knows that locking down is the easy part and deciding how and when to lift restrictions is the hard bit.

It’s very sad that funerals are completely banned. Hopefully they are back in some form ASAP.

Oh dear Honey Factory I’m not a super chill stoner or functioning alco so I guess that makes me super conservative Grin My parents would make a Mumsnetter proud with their curtain twitching skills.

I am considering a move to Tassie so maybe I can join one of their groups in advance.

Forgot to add that I’m shocked how many people don’t get why bottle shops need to stay open. Maybe it’s just because of my line of work but I knew why they stayed open as soon I heard the news. Add to that, in places where alcohol wasn’t available like South Africa people made their own in desperation and some ended up dead.

You are right bluetongue- I am actually impressed that they acknowledged why it was important to keep them open

yes whilst the optics of keeping the bottle o open looks terrible it actually is a important sensible public health measure. emergency services dont need the extra trouble that closing would cause (not to mention the danger it puts vulnerable people in)

AwaAnBileYerHeid I get what you are saying but we are not talking about 1 or 2 kms.

We are talking in the 100s (at least).

Fingers crossed it works. I am just grateful I don't have to make the decisions!

Spot on description lol
As i say looking over my box of wine i ordered that came today.....
Perfect timing really

Bluetounge, I was shocked people shocked about bottle shops
bottle shops NEED to be open. At work the other week, with NO lockdown we had cops come in and warn us about a recovering alcho who was drinking sanitizer and dont sell to her
I know our neighbour would be VERY sick if he didnt have access

37 you say..... hadnt seen that happy dance I adore our summer lol

Right - but what happens if its 6 days of being locked indoors; then you're allowed out 'normally' for a week at the end of which they then find more cases. So next time, its 10 days shut indoors etc etc.

x repeat

Do you really think that is ok?

Personally I'm horrified by this. As other posters have said, these measures/restrictions are far more scary than Covid.

It was partly Australia that made me realise we were heading for tyranny across the globe.

But nit letting dogs out is a new low. What next, a ban on pets?

Someone upthread was advocating quarantening people in army barracks, that sort of think sounds like some other kind of camp to me.

Or you could go like Spain and shut kids in flats for months without being allowed outside.

Scary times we live in, where people accept, what should be unacceptable.

We have 220/100000 in my town of 64 thousand and we were tier one before England lockdown.
Its mad how countries are doing things so different
I know its hard but hopefully going hard will stop it from spreading causing longer and more disruptive lockdowns like our half hearted one.

Possibly the grip shops are deemed non-essential where you are, but when they're back, do get one. Or go online and get one now.

Ridiculous frothing.
