Anyone else in South Australia? New lockdown - no exercise outside the house alloed

I must admit I was shocked at how strict this lockdown is. Most of it I can live with but I must admit I’m struggling that we’re not allowed to leave the house apart from grocery shopping - even for exercise or dog walking. Yes, they’ve told us it’s only for six days but it’s hard to know who to believe. I’m not sure I feel comfortable with this level of restriction.

The government is disappointed with the panic buying but what do they expect when we can now be stopped and questioned by Police any time we leave the house?

Essential workers only- health care, anything required to maintain the food chain etc. all shops apart from supermarkets shut, schools shut, take aways shut.

And yes we will open up to international travel again. Once either a country has acceptable border practices and no cases or an effective vaccine is found. We all expect 2022 I think. Australia is a big country. We can go on tropical beach holidays or go skiing without leaving our borders. It’s not a hardship.

It is all cost and benefit isn’t it? What are you willing to give up and what do you get back? I am willing to give up overseas trips for 2 years and have occasional changes of plans and 6 days of not going to the pub in return for the last 6 months of life where we KNEW it wasn’t here and could behave normally. That lack of stress is not to be underestimated. They were even checking waste water so we know when it is out there and when it isn’t. As a HCP being able to go to work every day without fear makes it all worth it tbh. If it gets in the hospitals we are screwed (and I have friends who described looking after dying 30 year olds in the UK) and I don’t ever want that

bluetongue · 19/11/2020 21:16

IndecentFeminist almost nobody is allowed out to work. I’m off on paid leave as I’m unable to work from home. Not sure what kind of leave yet as it all happened so fast.

depends what you do. there is a list of essential workers - they have also considered that its harvest and some food/beverage producers cannot shut down without great financial loss so the list is quite diverse.

It is important to question and push back.

But it is also important to consider the bigger picture and the long term effects.

I am pretty happy with how we are rolling in NSW.

I fully expect that at some time in the future we could end up with a short sharp lockdown again if it gets away from us. I am also confident that that won't be done lightly.

It is hard for many businesses that we have pulled up the drawbridge. But given the health and economic ravaging that is happening with other countries I can live with it. I do think we need to focus a bit more on getting Aussies home and working together on the quarantine system.

I would also be letting people leave if they want. On the understanding that if they want to come back they go to the back of the line after people who are already stuck abroad.

There are worse places to be locked in. My kids have been back at school since mid-May, we are able to see our families and go out and about AND our health system is not overwhelmed, we don't have people getting sick and our elderly dying in droves.

It is very hard to maintain the balance. But I think on the whole we are doing OK here in Oz.

The vaccine situation is looking promising, I am pretty sure we can afford to stay isolated until the end of next year.

Our isolation has always been both a blessing and a curse. In this situation it would appear to be a blessing.

Ozgirl75 · 20/11/2020 00:34

I’m in Sydney and today I met a friend for a coffee, then went to my gym, now I’m off to do some shopping and then to the library, then off to pick up the kids from school where tomorrow they will be doing community sport. I mean, it doesn’t feel much like tyranny and if it is, then maybe I’m kind of ok with that.
I’d love to be able to travel - all my family are in the U.K., my kids haven’t seen their grandparents for a year, but if it means that their daily life is normal, I’m happy for holiday time in Byron Bay or Port Macquarie in the meantime.

TheHoneyFactory · 20/11/2020 01:09

and the restrictions are being lifted.....

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 20/11/2020 01:26

.....because one guy lied! Wow! Good news for SA, but what an idiot!

Bunniesitmustbebunnies · 20/11/2020 01:34

Yup can go out and exercise immediately, hard restrictions being lifted midnight Saturday!

Soomanybooks · 20/11/2020 01:41

bluetongue · 20/11/2020 01:41

Oh FFS.

What a dickhead.

TheHoneyFactory · 20/11/2020 01:45

i am so happy school is back! going for big forest walk this afternoon!!

I definitely don't feel oppressed - rather the opposite, have a elected govt and a health system that will act to protect us, the vulnerable and the wider country in the face of a pandemic. that's a good feeling.

Bunniesitmustbebunnies · 20/11/2020 01:50

I’m sure all the gloom merchants will be disappointed that there’s no riots happening

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 20/11/2020 01:59

I'm still trying to imagine Adelaidians rioting! Grin

AllAussieAdventures · 20/11/2020 02:13

Would have to put down the Shiraz first.

coldspaghettio · 20/11/2020 02:16

I think we're all more likely to say 'well that was fucked' and carry on.

In a few years time you'll say to your mates 'remember when there was a pandemic and we went into lockdown because of that knobhead at the pizza bar?'
And your mate will say 'oh yeah, good times, good times'.

bluetongue · 20/11/2020 02:17

Well they have had to put Police outside the pizza shop.

AllAussieAdventures · 20/11/2020 02:27

Give it a month and they will be trading on it.

TheHoneyFactory · 20/11/2020 02:30

TheHoneyFactory · 20/11/2020 02:31

apparently they do a very good lasagna.... curious but might give it a few months

TheHoneyFactory · 20/11/2020 02:35

joking aside, i am - like most angry with the person, but i do hope they have been given support (particularly mental health support). i think Nicola was more measured when discussing the 'lie' and hope that politically a miscommunication hasnt been misconstrued.

anyways, happy happy!

AllAussieAdventures · 20/11/2020 02:45

Oh I am sure there are all sorts of mitigating factors.

Still a royal pain in the arse though!

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 20/11/2020 02:47

Good on the contact tracers for spotting the lie though, they did an awesome job!

squeekums · 20/11/2020 02:53

@HesterShaw1

Reading your comment back *@squeekums*, it does look as though we agree with one another :)

I would have little faith in police turning a blind eye though after what we saw in Melbourne.

Yeah id say so, i agree its hard, fast but for us rural folk we can work around it. In city, id not be happy. Our cops here are lazy lol In city they fine grabby so will jump on anything. I mean ive seen them defect my partners car for "structural" issues, went to get it cleared over pits and the guy laughed, there was NO structure issues, was a loose bracket on a cosmetic part of bumper

In some good news, restrictions are already easing as they found out one of the people lied, if they hadnt we wouldnt have had these restrictions.
Exercise is fine immediately and stay at home off from midnight Saturday, funerals back on, pubs to open

Yeah, we not a riot kind.... Too much effort. We would rather sit back with a glass of whatever and go meh, wake me when its over
