I'm not panic buying but I can hear them rolling up and down my road again

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 15:35

@ohthegoats

Oh FFS, teaching unions calling for schools to close. Fuck this.

Unions are toothless, don't worry. It might just result in some decent safety measures being introduced.

The teaching unions were calling for decent safety measures well before the summer holidays.

Care homes and schools seem to be woefully under provided for. I've been in a care home recently where a resident was being cleaned up after soiling themselves and the staff had no apron, mask or gloves

@AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo perfect 👌🏻

@PeskyRooks

DH just came back from Tesco and it's bloody heaving, they're having to count people in again for the first time in ages. Great. Here we go again.
See I don't understand this , supermarkets never shut so why do they think it will now . So everyone has gone out this afternoon increasing the risk of contact . No common sense at all Hmm.
RainbowPuzzle · 31/10/2020 15:38

Well this is going to go down like a lead balloon isn't it.

Where I live, in Lewisham, there have already been people out on the streets with signs shouting about covid restrictions before anything has been confirmed.

Your husband was there, but no one else is allowed to be there?
PetCheetah · 31/10/2020 15:41

@JacobReesMogadishu so sorry for your loss Flowers

NoGoodPunsLeft · 31/10/2020 15:42

@crazyfrogs at least care home staff are/should be tested weekly, teachers just have to keep going in hoping for the best.

PeskyRooks · 31/10/2020 15:43

It's not that. It's a very small local Tesco that we use every Saturday and it was very noticeably busier. That's all.

NorthGirl2 · 31/10/2020 15:43

It's a vicious circle- people are going to supermarkets because they've heard everyone is going, and they're worried about having enough food and household supplies. The best way to get people to panic buy is to say everyone is doing it.

Splodgetastic · 31/10/2020 15:43

I’m afraid I don’t support another lockdown unless they do it fairly. I don’t see why my local high street florist / gift shop should have to close but supermarkets and large online retailers stay open. They could shut absolutely everything if they hadn’t cut the armed forces so much - they might have been able to get basic rations to everyone.

Yep. Whereas round here it's completely normal levels of people

Cos we can't eat flowers and gifts
kirinm · 31/10/2020 15:45

Peston is saying it's going to be Tier 4. Schools, colleges, unis open. Non essential shops closed, restaurants / pubs close. Outward travel banned, travel within UK for work purposes only.

Even now they're going via fucking journalists. Heaven forbid one of them manages to keep their mouths shut and announces it themselves rather than a journalist mouthpiece.

Walkaround · 31/10/2020 15:47

Fantastic timing - after dark on Halloween. I wonder if he’ll come on dressed as the Grim Reaper? No need to argue over which horror movie to watch, now.

Whirlwind14 · 31/10/2020 15:47

It’s all utterly dismal. We’ve just been to see my parents and I feel so sad that it’s likely to be the last time for a long, long while.

Just poured a large wine, stuck halloween Peppa on and I’m prepping for the worst news from Boris

NorthGirl2 · 31/10/2020 15:47

I'm pretty sure the leaks to the press are intentional. All the major national cooperations have inside sources and the press has managed to 'leak' every lockdown before its announced. It's probably to gauge public reaction before the confirmation.

Could just be because it's Halloween
PhilSwagielka · 31/10/2020 15:49

Supermarkets are vital for keeping people fed, plus other supplies like cleaning products. Gift and flower shops aren't unless you're planning on eating the flowers.

Nicknamegoeshere · 31/10/2020 15:49

I'm going to be having a fun 40th!!! Wine

PeskyRooks · 31/10/2020 15:49

You could be right @ivftake1 who knows.

Walkaround · 31/10/2020 15:50

@ivftake1 - yes. I was miffed there were no pumpkins left this am.

Obviously coming on to tell us we are being locked down again but if we are very good, we might get a Christmas. Not sure I can watch it, too angry.
