Theres alot going on behind that black door.

Boris has to get most of the MPs in parliment to vote in favour of lockdown unless he cant announce it

And there is alot of disagreeing going on right now

@SheepandCow

Wise words from one of the scientific experts who is advising the Scottish government. Professor Devi Sridhar:

Back in late Feb, a Chinese colleague said that with early action & an elimination strategy (stop transmission within borders), we could be past the worst by June. The UK response was ‘costs are too high.’ We are now into November & 2nd lockdown - cost with this approach?

Separately, she retweeted this:

The number of nurses who have died of COVID is now equal to those ‘who died in the First World War’, says ICN chief.

Not following the SARS model rather than the Flu model was definitely a false economy.

The virus is causing all the problems. If you reduce the levels of virus you reduce the problems. And the costs.

They need to close schools and unis, it’s not going to work otherwise

ThornAmongstRoses · 31/10/2020 17:12

Do you think he's in discussions whether to announce schools closing and that's the delay?

The news presenter said the Education Unions have said that if a lockdown goes ahead then all learning should be done online at home to allow for school closures.

ShellsAndSunrises · 31/10/2020 17:12

Perhaps he's pushed it later in the hopes we will all stay in to watch the press conference instead of going out on a Saturday night.

I think that's probably too intelligent for him. He's either watching the rugby, hoping we win and so everyone is happy, or hoping everyone is watching Strictly.

@JacobReesMogadishu

It’s the not knowing which is upsetting me more, dragging it out. I feel quite tearful and anxious and sick now and I’m not normally like this. My mum died this morning though so I’m not in the best place I guess.
I’m so sorry.
SomeoneTellBorisHeHasDandruff · 31/10/2020 17:13

Where is Boris?

Is he making a mad dash to Asda to buy his essentials before lockdown?

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 17:14

Just saw your post @JacobReesMogadishu
I'm so sorry for your lossFlowers

Peppafrig · 31/10/2020 17:15

So this announce is just for England . I wonder when the first minister will address us in Scotland .

Nailgirl · 31/10/2020 17:15
@cologne4711 Acorns are not 100% edible, especially if you don’t do something to them, although I can’t remember what it is.
They have tannin in them, you have to leach it out.

MrsKingfisher · 31/10/2020 17:16

Is Boris having a quick poo whilst his script is written over and more notes written? Perhaps the notes in the margin will read 'General reaction, people think you're a knob'

cologne4711 · 31/10/2020 17:17

Getting his hair cut Yes.

My next appointment is 1 December, so I am hoping lockdown ends at the end of the month!

They had better not close the schools. Every other European country is keeping them open.

randomer · 31/10/2020 17:18

This is hardly the behaviour of professionals is it?

ThornAmongstRoses · 31/10/2020 17:18

All these reasons featuring Boris as to why the briefing has been delayed keep making me chuckle Grin

annabel85 · 31/10/2020 17:18

@ThornAmongstRoses

Do you think he's in discussions whether to announce schools closing and that's the delay?

The news presenter said the Education Unions have said that if a lockdown goes ahead then all learning should be done online at home to allow for school closures.

Schools should be kept open for key workers/vulnerable children through November.

This could have been avoided had they had the half term circuit break but it won't work otherwise

GabsAlot · 31/10/2020 17:19

i mean a bit poor to say a time then not turn up

i hate waiting

SomeoneTellBorisHeHasDandruff · 31/10/2020 17:19

@JacobReesMogadishu - I am so sorry to hear of your loss Flowers

GabsAlot · 31/10/2020 17:19

its fine for eduction unions to say schools should close but they still not ready for online learning even though they were told to get it going

Peppafrig · 31/10/2020 17:20

The fact it is running late is just icing on the cake of this shambles .

lyralalala · 31/10/2020 17:20

Channel 4 said ages ago it would be 6.30

That fits with the end of the rugby

ITV won't interrupt the rugby for the announcement and they'll want it on all channels so I think it'll be just after 6.30

Coriandersucks · 31/10/2020 17:21

I’ve been fairly calm about all this so far, following the rules and accepting what will be will be but I’m so fucking angry that they’re pissing us around so much on this. Just come out of that fucking building and face the public!

And the people working in hospitality I feel so sorry for them. Places that have events planned for November just being wiped out in all in the space of a few hours.

And for those saying close the schools - what about the parents who have to work? With the furlough scheme just ending there’s going to be bugger all support.

And for those who say well I’d rather be destitute in the streets and save lives - take a good look at the numbers. From the very beginning up until now in my area the infection rate is 0.08%. Fuck this.

lyralalala · 31/10/2020 17:22

@GabsAlot

To be fair though they were making plans for online learning in the summer and then were told to stop because they'd be open.
@ivftake1 So just shut everything down completely instead and get Army to deliver emergency supplies to anyone who is too weak to survive four weeks without food. Most people in this country have enough reserves in their bodies.
Are you Xenias twin?
