Sooner than expected! Wondering what he will say...

One silver lining regarding schools is all the buisness / places who have to close will mean less places to blame for the spread, so perhaps the Gov won't be able to hide just how much of the spread is actually happening in schools. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

yahyahs22 · 31/10/2020 16:54

6:30 now?

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 16:54

The decision over whether or not to close schools will be made for the government - if Covid doesn't stop spreading. The teachers and other staff will all be off sick (Covid, Long Covid, or stress).

knittingaddict · 31/10/2020 16:57

@yahyahs22

6:30 now?
Really? Doesn't instill confidence, does it. Hmm
Reastie · 31/10/2020 16:58

Haven’t read whole thread but FYI got an email from NEU and they are calling for schools and colleges to close apart from key workers as before if another lockdown

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2020 16:59

6.30, yes it seems that way

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 16:59

Wise words from one of the scientific experts who is advising the Scottish government. Professor Devi Sridhar:

Back in late Feb, a Chinese colleague said that with early action & an elimination strategy (stop transmission within borders), we could be past the worst by June. The UK response was ‘costs are too high.’ We are now into November & 2nd lockdown - cost with this approach?

Separately, she retweeted this:

The number of nurses who have died of COVID is now equal to those ‘who died in the First World War’, says ICN chief.

ShellsAndSunrises · 31/10/2020 17:00

6:30 now?

Really? I can't see that anywhere yet but it wouldn't surprise me...

Crocodilian · 31/10/2020 17:01

@ShellsAndSunrises Both the Guardian and the Telegraph are saying 6.30 now...

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 17:01

Bbc are saying delayed but not sure how much by

RoseAndRose · 31/10/2020 17:02

BBC just saying delayed, but nit giving new time yet

covetingthepreciousthings · 31/10/2020 17:02

Do you think he's in discussions whether to announce schools closing and that's the delay?

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 17:02

Has he seriously not made his mind up what to do yet?

Hmmph · 31/10/2020 17:03

BBC news just said delayed but didn’t give a time

MarshaBradyo · 31/10/2020 17:04

Bet it’s bloody intense. Sunak saying we’re fucked in however many words and whoever on the other side waving numbers around. Nightmare

Nostrings457 · 31/10/2020 17:04

Sky news said 6.30

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 17:05

@Crystalknobs

I wouldn’t be surprised if some people start moving in with family members or partners before the announcement.
That's another option for the priviledged with the space to accommodate two households and the freedom to move somewhere else. People in small houses and people doing vital work don't have that option.
Medievalist · 31/10/2020 17:06

Maybe he wants to watch the rugby first?

Ironfloor269 · 31/10/2020 17:06

Boris will call for a national lockdown, at the end of which Sunak will bring on Eat Out to Help Out, cases will rise, national lockdown, Eat Out to Help Out....

the80sweregreat · 31/10/2020 17:06

I bet it's been a miserable Saturday for all the staff in number ten too today. It's awful that it has to happen at all :(
I feel for those in hospitality. I really do.
It is so hard.

ShellsAndSunrises · 31/10/2020 17:06

Thanks @Crocodilian. This is an absolute shambles...

islockdownoveryet · 31/10/2020 17:07

Boris if your reading this hurry up , Grin

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2020 17:08

Various sources tweeting 'PA reporting Downing St briefing delayed from 1700 to 1830'

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 31/10/2020 17:08
@ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule Cheers! What are your plans for your special day?
I don't know now, maybe just order-in some essential wine and takeaway supplies, wrap myself in a duvet and wait for next year when hopefully we can all get together and celebrate properly! Poor DH was trying to organise me a surprise I think, not sure that'll happen now but bless him for trying. Best friend's 40th is on Wednesday, so I guess plans have to change for that too...

What are you going to do?

IrkedEssex · 31/10/2020 17:10

Perhaps he's pushed it later in the hopes we will all stay in to watch the press conference instead of going out on a Saturday night.
