Called ‘The Long View’ very interesting

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/11/2020 10:26

I thought 100 million ie enough for 50 million people.

Sebw · 17/11/2020 17:39

Theres something else afoot within the next day or so hinted at by a NY Times journalist. Not vaccine related. People have replied guessing it may be favourable results from Vit D studies.

Sebw · 17/11/2020 17:42

Funnily enough it has just been published. A study has shown immunity may last years. It's behind a paywall so I can't read it

MarcelineMissouri · 17/11/2020 17:47

I was just coming on to post that article about immunity!

MarcelineMissouri · 17/11/2020 17:49

And twitter thread from the author of the article

Jrobhatch29 · 17/11/2020 17:50

That's so reassuring. Love this thread. Thanks everyone!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/11/2020 18:03

That’s awesome.

tobee · 17/11/2020 19:02

@cathyandclare yes when I was reading late last night I saw 100 million doses! Can't remember where I got 30 million from!

cathyandclare · 17/11/2020 19:32

It's even better news :) Fingers crossed for good news soon.

tootyfruitypickle · 18/11/2020 07:08

Oxford news within a fortnight I heard.

I’ve actually stopped reading most of the CV board and am just reading and listening to science news. This is definitely the time for science, it’s very exciting and makes me quite emotional as a non scientist for all the amazing clever people out there !

chri55ie · 18/11/2020 08:02

I am desperate to hear news re Oxford. I keep checking Twitter. @tootyfruitypickle where did you hear this?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/11/2020 08:25

Last week the rumour was that Oxford would report this week so hrrumph. As long as we have enough Pfizer doses to get started though, that’s the main thing.

Sunshinegirl82 · 18/11/2020 08:31

I remember hearing (although can't guarantee) that Oxford are planning to release efficacy and safety data simultaneously rather than efficacy followed by safety (which is the approach Pfizer have taken) so hopefully Oxford won't actually be too far behind!

chri55ie · 18/11/2020 08:38

I think all these rumours must tell us it’s getting closer!

Arcadia · 18/11/2020 08:49

My colleague's husband works where the oxford Vaccine is being developed and says an announcement is due soon! We live in oxford and I know several people who have been in the trials. Fingers crossed!

cathyandclare · 18/11/2020 08:57

I hope so Arcadia. At the moment I'm constantly refreshing Twitter, news sites and mn for updates- my work output is embarrassingly low!

Mybrowneyedgal · 18/11/2020 08:58

Are there any rumours about the efficiency rate of the oxford vaccine? Is it using very different technologies from the other vaccines.
I am desperate for the results to be positive!

Ps this thread is brilliant, it keeps me sane. Thank you to everyone who contributes

PatienceVirtue · 18/11/2020 09:02

I love this thread thanks again to all contributors. From a psychology point of view, I find it fascinating how people cope with a bad situation. There are some people (all of us on here) who try to find positives and to look forward to better times. Then there are others who are determined to wallow to the point of being somehow affronted by the more positive outlook of others. Like those who come onto this thread, the good news silo, and have to wade in uninvited. I don't think one way is necessarily superior to the other, but I think those of us who need to find positives should be allowed to do so in peace without the 'never going to be a vaccine, I'm sorry' lot.

Anyway, my family member on the Oxford trial went into London hospital for his latest check up. The clinic had moved a few floors. He asked why and the clinician was naturally evasive but there seemed to be some suggestion that they'd soon be needing more space. He's now speculating that they're making room for actual vaccination roll out.

I too am checking twitter for more Oxford news. I feel loyal to it both as a participant but also as a Brit - it would be nice to have done something right in this pandemic. And for the world in general, Oxford one is so much cheaper and easier than Pfizer. The microbiologist who did my bloods in my first trial appointment was adamant that Oxford were in a different league to the others in terms of development (this was back in June).

tootyfruitypickle · 18/11/2020 09:31

@chri55ie. one of the scientists said it, not sure if on today or pm. Sir John Bell was on PM yesterday and was a cheery listen.

tootyfruitypickle · 18/11/2020 09:32

@Sunshinegirl82 also heard this and so it could even be that the Oxford vaccine is rolled out first.

cathyandclare · 18/11/2020 09:38

The CEO of AZ said results would be out in 'days to weeks' yesterday.

Oohhh I really hope so!!

Sb2012 · 18/11/2020 10:43

Has anyone else heard the news of mouthwash killing the coronavirus? Apparently so far the results look promising.
