Thank you to those who have contributed to the good news thread over the past few weeks. We are at 40 pages so here is a new one to continue sharing good news stories :)

Yes I have definitely noticed this! Lots of regular posters who were more positive or balanced seem to have given up. I try not to open alot of the threads now because I get too worked up ha
I'm the "good news" thread starter here... I don't come on mumsnet anymore. I only read this because someone tagged me so I got an email!

@tootyfruitypickle

There’s a thread running where the negative posters are talking about how much abuse they’ve had, which is not the way round I’ve seen it .

I’m sure that Sarah Gilbert went on as a precursor to approval this week (assuming she may have had a heads up?). Fingers crossed as this would be much needed good news .

I do hope so. Also, while I am not privy to the MHRA’s decision-making processes (like many of the experts on other threads who I’m sure have a lot of relevant expertise on the subject and aren’t just reading stuff on Twitter like the rest of us, ahem...) I do know that Oxford/AZ have been working with regulators throughout the process, since long before they had results.

So it’s not like they just rocked up last week to say “hi here’s how we’ve set up our trials, what do you think?” and the MHRA have to puzzle it all out from square one. The Phase III results will be new to the MHRA but a lot of information about how the trials were set up, what the early results were like, etc etc, is information they’ve had for a while. I find that good to know.

My lovely grandma has her vaccine appointment on Wednesday, she can't wait! Second dose 21 days later

tobee · 13/12/2020 21:23

@tobee

People are weird. That's been underlined these last moments. Then there's the "Sorry not sorry that I was proven right" brigade. Makes you wonder if they are bots or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That should have said "these last months"!!! 🙈

Which thread is that? I'd be interested to read it.

The relentless negativity gets me down.

But.. in good news...a close friend (front line) had the vaccine today. She reported that the system was slick and well run. She was in and out in half an hour and they ensured they were observed for allergy for fifteen minutes. Overall, very reassuring.

Such a shame but I don't blame you! Thank you for this thread though

Me too, yet its like a drug I just keep reading and reading them. I really need to stop and just stick to this and the data threads. My mental health is just getting worse.

I know good news of the oxford vaccine will help, it just seems to be taking forever - I know its not forever and its better to be taken seriously than rushed through.

tobee · 13/12/2020 22:03

So who's going to start the nee thread? Grin

tobee · 13/12/2020 22:03

new thread fgs Hmm

Yet again, this thread seems to be one of the few positive one's around!

I had a semi heated discussion with a woman I know in the street yesterday. She's normally okay, but she asked me if I was 'going to consider being a guinea pig for Pfzier'. Well... it then turned into bloody anti-vax Bingo. It was also very clear that she didn't really know as much as she was trying to imply. I told her that we were unlikely to be offered Pfzier anyway, and then explained about Oxford. I could see immediately that she didn't have a clue about the Oxford one, but was too busy being fixated with how it was rushed (I explained why it wasn't 'rushed'), how Pfzier has changed the law (I am not convinced this is totally true but need to Google the details). I did say that it didn't look like she'd be happy with it even if it had been tested for the past 50 years and, instead, she'd be looking for holes in it. She got semi aggressive about it then and I managed to defuse it a bit although it was hard not to just pull apart everything she was saying. One of the words that seems to be used a lot is 'research' but it's obvious that most of this 'research' seems to consist of bloody Facebook posts or YouTube. Infuriating!

So yes, we had the whole package first. Bill Gates, changing laws, guinea pigs, rushed, thalidomide. You name it!

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread, I've been reading it all along and it has been a great help.

I've found most of MN really bad for my anxiety so am wondering about leaving (like OP) there are still some gems like this.

I am feeling so impatient for Oxford vaccine news!

@JemimaPyjamas what an aggressive opening start to the conversation your friend had! I know a few people like this - oddly they are they ones who don't wear masks, don't want to get tested and are happy to break the rules. It makes me cross because they aren't doing anything to actively help the situation iyswim.

I have no credentials to start a new thread but don't want all the positivity to be lost (and previous thread-starter said she's not using MN any more). Hope that's acceptable?
