@CornishYarg

All those "There's never going to be a vaccine. Sorry" from random internet 'experts'.

I definitely won't miss those posts. "Sorry, but my sister's neighbour's son's dog's previous owner works in this area and she said there's no way a successful vaccine can be developed, I'm afraid. Or if it can, it will take at least 10 years. Sorry."

Grin needs at least one ‘sadly’ and a ‘people need to accept’ in there.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/11/2020 18:01

The ‘sorry’ is very dishonest. They should say, ‘It gives me great pleasure to inform you’ since it clearly does.

CornishYarg · 16/11/2020 18:02

This thread has been a bit of a sanity saver

Definitely. The data thread for factual discussion and this thread for cautious optimism, as a previous pp described it, have been my go-to threads to lurk on.

CornishYarg · 16/11/2020 18:04

Very true, it's way too positive a comment without those!

As Countess says, the sorry is extremely fake.

This is true

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 18:13

I haven’t noticed many moving here but a lot of building work going on

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 18:14

Ain't that the truth!

"I'm afraid". No you're not you're absolutely thrilled!

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 18:19

Yep agree with all this

Many people are arses

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 18:20

On here

IcedPurple · 16/11/2020 18:20

There's been a lot of arses on Mumsnet since March

Since March 2003 you mean?

Joking aside, I get you. And I agree completely.

Fizbosshoes · 16/11/2020 18:27

I am generally a pessimist, ( I prefer realist) and DH is an optimist.
I felt really buoyed by last Mondays vaccine and he really burst my bubble by saying how impractical it was (the storage at -80) and it would take ages etc etc.
Now more good news.im hoping for a triple whammy next Monday with the Oxford AZ one!

tobee · 16/11/2020 18:31

Should have written "extra arses"!

  • Was very confused Confused nb to self must proof read better
ChristmasinJune · 16/11/2020 20:24

Granted, being blindly optimistic is silly

Blind optimism has kept me sane I think!!
I don't mean I run round licking the walls and hoping I'll be ok, but I was absolutely certain that there wouldn't be a second wave and even though I was wrong in the end, I don't for one second regret being optimistic and having a bit of hope in the short term,

JemimaPyjamas · 16/11/2020 22:13

checking into the thread of loveliness!

Pomegranatespompom · 16/11/2020 22:15

Thank you so much for keeping this thread going, a much needed contrast to some of the others.

feelingverylazytoday · 16/11/2020 22:35

@MarshaBradyo

Yep. So many posts saying we’ve never made a vaccine for a coronavirus

Thank god they were wrong, I can say I did feel quite positive when listening to scientists throughout. Still feeling pressure re Oxford one so want it to get good results.

It's not just the UK. I beieve India are relying very heavily on the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine being sucessful. I really want it to work for them as much as us.
TeaInTheGarden · 16/11/2020 23:31

All eyes are on oxford now, I feel like I’m literally holding my breath!
Hope we don’t have to wait till next Monday...!

TeaInTheGarden · 16/11/2020 23:32

Does anyone know how many doses of the oxford one we have preordered?

tobee · 16/11/2020 23:41

I think 30 million but only 4 million ready before new year @TeaInTheGarden ?

Interesting that some scientific commentators have previously said they'd expect treatments to be available before vaccines.

Makes me wonder if some further treatment news is coming soon (greedy of me). Got lost as to where regeneron and eli Lilly are....

Ninbuscl · 17/11/2020 08:38

Elly Lilly has emergency authorisation for its antibody drug which is also fab news. But I think doesn’t seem to be a headline grabber that vaccines are so it’s not been talked about too much.

I thought it was 100 million doses of the Ox/AZ one.
MarshaBradyo · 17/11/2020 09:19

Interesting to listen to R4 vaccine programme and protests around small pox vaccine. People thought it would turn children into a cow. (Cowpox was used). Liberty loss and government control. Some similarities even now.
