Just sent the Pfizer info to some friends. Thought it might muster some enthusiasm and positivity but its instead descended into a discussion about how hard it is to get something as simple as a flu jab so I don’t think I managed to share news in the way I hoped I would!

@JemimaPyjamas

Flu jab is a different beast. Sometimes they are quite late in determining which strain/s should be included, which then throws vaccine production off. In turn there can then be issues within supply. Also this year was unprecedented in terms of demand so it’s not surprising that not everyone could get one. I don’t think this has any bearing on a covid vaccine

Thank you for starting this thread, OP!

Deliaskis · 16/10/2020 19:56

I think, from memory, that the Pfizer trial has several interim analyses of the data, and were planning to file based on one of those. So it's not overtaken the Oxford one per se, more that the trial design allowed an earlier analysis filing. So there's an argument that what we get out of Oxford will be a more 'complete' set of data.

Happy to be corrected if I've got that wrong!

JemimaPyjamas · 16/10/2020 20:01

Thanks @TheChineseChicken I did wonder along those lines but as it was just that as opposed to actual knowledge I didn’t want to get into a discussion!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/10/2020 21:39

That’s interesting Deliaskis, thanks.

dollychopss · 16/10/2020 22:08

This from BBC News tonight:-

tobee · 17/10/2020 01:54

And Kate Bingham of U.K. Vaccine Taskforce said on BBC Scotland's The Seven that vulnerable could be vaccinated this side of Christmas.

Chickenandrice · 17/10/2020 09:05

The telegraph seem to think vaccine rollout is being considered for December. “Sources” say 50/50 chance.

Whirlwind14 · 17/10/2020 12:17

I love JVT @tobee

Been lurking on thread one for a while, now here, so thought I'd say hi, and thanks for the positivity.

chri55ie · 18/10/2020 07:48

Thanks for sharing @tobee. That’s out a spring in my step this grey morning!

Sebw · 18/10/2020 08:39

I know it's in the Daily Fail but thought I'd put it on anyway Grin

MarcelineMissouri · 18/10/2020 09:03

If Van Tam is sounding positive about vaccine news then I’m happy!!!

Orangeblossom7777 · 18/10/2020 09:28

Just came on to share the same Times headline. Sounds very promising!

Bouncycastle12 · 18/10/2020 09:52

Christ - never thought a video of a Pfizer factory would make me cry... god, amazing seeing the vaccine go into production.

clarexbp · 18/10/2020 09:55

It's even better than that Bouncy - the UK started manufacturing the Oxford vaccine months ago, just in case it worked (a big gamble at that stage) - there are millions of doses already stockpiled and ready to go.
