I don't begrudge Andy that money but if he gets it, then everyone else in Tier 3 should be given the same support. Surely that can be legally challenged?

There will be utter uproar if one are has 80% and the other doesn't.

CrappleUmble · 19/10/2020 17:31

Depends on the basis for giving it, I would guess. Not all areas currently in Tier 3 have been subjected to extra restrictions as long as GM has, which might form the basis of an argument.

The thing that does my head in most about this is the perception of Scousers. I am not condoning the 100 people in the streets partying a few days ago before the new restrictions. That was wrong.

However, put a glass of Verve Cliquot in their hands, a fascinator and a set of Arabian racehorses and it is a totally different kettle of fish.

its plain old fashioned snobbery and years of anti Liverpool press.

I left Liverpool 30 years ago and don’t have a Scouse accent. If people find out where I come from, not that I keep it a secret, out come the ‘jokes’ about everyone in Liverpool being criminals and drug dealers and you get accused of having no sense of humour if you object.

I remember going to London on a school trip, probably 5th year, so 15, 16, around 1980/81. I went to a fairly midldle class school, posh uniform, very strict - we didnt dare step out of line so we were always very well behaved in public. My group of 4 ( so hardly a mob) went to Harrods. We were looking at make up and were asked to leave. We were not misbehaving but we did have scouse accents. Funny how thats stayed with me, gets a bit wearing after 40 years.

Yep. Obvious reason why Hillsborough took so long to get anywhere near a fair resolution. Had it been any other sport and any other city's club, it would have been different. But football "hooligans" and then scousers on top and then Liverpool FC on top of that - well.

It's not altogether surprising that the residents of Liverpool don't take a huge amount of notice of guidelines issued by a Tory government headed by Boris of all people.

cologne4711 · 19/10/2020 19:10

I grew up in Liverpool in the 1970s and 80s, through Hesiltine and Thatcher

To be fair, Heseltine tried to do quite a lot for the north west. He is the one Tory politician my Liverpool-born (and Labour party member, at lest until Corbyn came along) has any time for.

randomer. I've looked for the articles that I read regarding this and can no longer find them. I can't back up that quote sorry.

When my relative died we were very angry and we did spend a lot of time reading up on what was happening in the city and we came across articles in the main papers talking about this. One actually had a map of the UK which highlighted which strains they had. Is tis article still on the internet. No it's not! At the time our relative died the Liverpool and surrounding press did spend a lot of time talking about the Athletic match and how it was responsible. Funny how that argument has been silenced months later. I wonder why Hmm money

Atletico Madrid.

@WokesFromHome,thanks for trying. Just interested. My son went to Uni in Liverpool. His graduation day was one of the best days ever , in my entire life.
