but if you think that everyone behaved impeccably and followed all the rules then you are wrong.

I don’t think that, and I don’t think anything in my post implied that I did. But equally I don’t believe that the criminal element and rule breakers were in the majority. And of course people from that time had stories to tell about what they got up to - because they were young, and making the best of a bad job. Can people not do the same now?

It's a damn disgrace but Liverpool is chav central so....

And yet your comment is so classy....

bossybloss · 15/10/2020 21:14

Funny people playing cricket on the streets of Peckham didn’t come in for the same vitriol

I thought it had the second largest number of listed buildings in the country, a long, fascinating history, friendly people, and a tradition of working class activism led by an educated and involved population. Maybe that's another Liverpool.

Only 'chavvy' if you are an utter ignoramus.

Ted27 · 15/10/2020 22:39

@MrsTerryPratchett

must be that other Liverpool that has England's first subscription library, the world's first passenger railway, The Calderstones which are older than Stonehenge, home to Europe's longest established Chinese community, the first English city to be European Capital of Culture, more national musuems and art galleries than any city outside London....

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/10/2020 22:57

Sounds awful @Ted27

Just dreadful. Grin

StoneofDestiny · 15/10/2020 23:10

@Ted27

And two magnificent cathedrals, a thriving music scene, an amazing slavery museum and a gorgeous revamped waterside area. It's a city with a fine history and some great people. (and no, I'm not a Liverpudlian)

Sweetiecorn · 16/10/2020 00:16

I've been quite disappointed with how few young people have rebelled against the rules so far

This is partly why everyone I know in Liverpool, and the feeling in the city in general, was so furious the other night at those scenes. They know it feeds into prejudices people have and hate to see the city take a kicking.

People are still angry about it.

LoisLane66 · 16/10/2020 12:44

Fines will rarely be paid. Students have no money to pay their hall fees and good money goes on booze.
With so many on furlough and loidmsing jobs, who has money for fines. It will take more money to collect than the amount of the fine itself.

LoisLane66 · 16/10/2020 12:45

Correction. losing their jobs.

LoisLane66 · 16/10/2020 12:59

Liverpool is no more 'chav central' than Edinburgh, Brighton, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Swansea, Aberystwyth, Newcastle...shall I go on?
It's my home town and although they certainly know how to party, so do many small villages around the UK.
It's just easier for the media to fall back on the bigger cities to provide a controversial story.
Parts of Cornwall, in summer are a disgrace.
Don't knock the wine until you have tasted it. The label means nothing.

chavs - young people behaving in a loutish manner Bullingdon Club?

People gathering in huge crowds, drinking, singing, celebrating, despite it not being safe to do so - Cheltenham Races 2020?

Surprised that people haven’t got the message yet. The only city that can be ‘shamed’ is apparently Liverpool . The only city that can be ‘ordered’ into a Tier 3 whilst others negotiate better financial deals or just refuse to do so is Liverpool. People like ‘Annabel85’ might be furious about a couple of hundred kids dancing in the streets for a few minutes before the police brought everything under control with no real issue but I and many others are far more furious that our chocolate teapot leaders have ensured that we are the only region to enter tier 3 without raising any real opposition (greater Manchester) or securing better financial assistance (Lancashire) . We are truly the ‘canaries down the mine’ and nobody seems to give a damn

Ted27 · 16/10/2020 20:32

very original

Dowser · 16/10/2020 20:32

Go Liverpool 💪🏼👍
I’m thrilled the gym owners banded together and fought to keep their gyms open.

Now they can.

Well done.
There’s two protests in Liverpool this weekend, Saturday and Sunday
I hope a 1/4 million hit the streets

Absolutely hilarious. How long did it take you to come up with that hilarious and well reasoned response ? Pathetic doesn’t even begin to describe that. You chuckle away to yourself at how amusing you are whilst thousands of people in one of the poorest areas in the country face absolute destitution
StoneofDestiny · 16/10/2020 21:12

The one thing Liverpool has is spades is a strong identity and fierce pride - not crass comments by ignorant air brains on mumsnet will put them down.

Ted27 · 16/10/2020 21:30

@StoneofDestiny

absolutely. I haven’t actually lived in Liverpool for 30 years but return frequently as all my family are there.
As soon as I cross the Runcorn bridge and wave at the superlambananas I know I am home
