I'm at the stage where I'm surprised if something is in stock.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/12/2020 21:28

DH has said he will be ok with sausages for Christmas dinner. We have parsnips in the garden, so I can scramble something together. No thanks to Ocado.

Why charge so much for a crap service.

A few weeks ago I had a really lovely driver who said he felt embarrassed to deliver Christmas food when it’s 9.99 and a £90 min order. He said it was really wrong and embarrassing of Ocado.

StanfordPines · 05/12/2020 21:54

This could be a real let down for them. Every year on here there is a Christmas delivery thread and every year Ocado do really well with other supermarkets having stuff missing.
If Ocado have loads of OOS items then this will not look good.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/12/2020 22:20

I’ve given up with them now. I’ll stop the smart pass in the new year. Don’t know who else to use.

I did use ASDA a few months ago. Never use them in store or online. Was a very good service. I was so surprised. Very clean and covid safe. Drivers wear gloves and change them for each delivery.

GinAtMerlottes · 06/12/2020 00:24

I managed to get a Waitrose delivery for this Monday coming and the following Monday!! Adding stuff to my basket online was a JOY. So much choice, so much lovely food. The M and S stuff just hasn’t lived up to expectations.

I have most of the Christmas stuff in my basket now for Ocado although huge amounts of it are not my first choice as what I really wanted is showing as OOS (or rather, has never been in stock). I’m planning to go to aldi on the cut off day and get what I can from there, then edit the basket accordingly. And if the two Waitrose deliveries I get over the next weeks go well,’convert to Waitrose completely.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/12/2020 08:00

I had waitrose deliveries, but the dates were always very short. I couldn’t rely on them, it was next day or worse. Could be the store mine came from. I fed back to them all the time, but it made no difference.

One time they had a new manager and he was going round with the driver meeting customers and asking how they found the service. I told him that the dates were poor and he said they come in like that. They can’t get longer dates because they aren’t produced with long dates as they don’t have preservatives in them or some bollocks. I said well the same product at Ocado comes with a longer date.

Who knows.

Fuss · 06/12/2020 09:48

Have to say the Waitrose delivered I’ve had have been great and no problem with short dates.
Just before lockdown I had a a delivery and one item was dated that day. It was given to me for free.

herecomesthsun · 06/12/2020 10:48

We have not-quite-Xmas-but-it-would-do back up food in the freezer.

StanfordPines · 06/12/2020 15:51

Our Christmas plans have only just been confirmed and the lack of stuff on Ocado is shocking. I’ve managed to get a Waitrose click and collect for the 15th and I’m just going to have to freeze a load of stuff.

gillybean2 · 06/12/2020 16:41

Well I got fed up waiting for Xmas stuff to come in stock for my Xmas slot delivery on 23rd so I’ve cancelled it. Otherwise I was going to end up with 2 expensive bottles of gin I didn’t want and no guarantee anything food wise would actually arrive. Can’t believe there is still no stock of Yule log, fresh custard, nut roast... So I’m relying on my Waitrose order on the 21st instead and will pop into the M&S near work if anything doesn’t turn up. Some of my waitrose items show as needing a 5 day advance order time and can’t now be changed. So glad I was able to pop them in my basket right back when I first ordered, unlike with Ocado...

Madcats · 06/12/2020 17:36

Waitrose failed to deliver my Pan Pugliese this week, which they usually have loads of in store, so I thought I'd pick some up this morning.

It's made way for shelf-loads of mince pies/Christmas Pudding and Cake (obviously hoping for a bit of a rush from disgruntled Ocado shoppers)! The bread section is a shadow of its former self.

There's loads of party food in there too (which presumably isn't shifting too well in a level 2 county).

Sunnysausage · 06/12/2020 23:15

We’ve been loyal Ocado customers for probably 10 years. Our regular slot disappeared during first lockdown, no Ocadoversary present etc etc, but more importantly I just can’t buy basic products any more. For eg I have just done an order - no red cabbage. And only one cabbage of any variety. Really, in that enormous robotic warehouse there is literally only one sort of cabbage?? No large wraps. Only one option on broccoli (and it was organic). Like a PP I went to Waitrose the other day and it was amazing to have So Much Choice compared to Ocado. As soon as there is more availability of slots in the NY we are off to Waitrose delivery (don’t even get me started on the Ocado Christmas delivery Hmm)

RaggieDolls · 07/12/2020 20:58

I'm thinking of leaving too @Sunnysausage. Also been a customer for ten years. Thinking of trying Sainsbury's after Christmas. Same issue as you, out of stock on basics and failure to stock reasonably priced basics e.g. tomato purée, 90p for a tiny tube compared to 48p for the Waitrose tube. I'm really noticing the bill rocket.

Has anyone else had problems with leaking Ocado milk? Ours has arrived leaking three times now.

Onceuponatimethen · 07/12/2020 22:10

We’re also going to leave as soon as covid is sorted

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 07/12/2020 22:20

When Christmas items are showing OOS have they already been placed in your baskets, or are you all trying to add them? Loads of stuff in my basket is showing OOS, and usually when I click on an out of stock item it shows the quantity I’ve requested to say it’s coming, but when I click on an OOS item this time it just shows OOS and not quantity. Argh!! I am not enjoying the Christmas food shopping stress.

StanfordPines · 07/12/2020 22:56

Usually OOS items that are in your checked out basket are secure (unless of course the item has been recalled or something like that).

Furball · 08/12/2020 08:10

I'm with you on the tomato puree. Has anyone else noticed they have also stopped selling the Gaia garlic puree which I bought regularly too. I picked up about 5 tubes in Asda the last time I was there to keep me going.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 08/12/2020 09:05

When somethings OOS they usually show the quanitity by the item, for example when you click on an OOS item it will say the quantity you have ordered. But not it just says OOS and no quantity. I’m just bracing myself for substitutes a plenty!

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 08/12/2020 09:07

I’ve been using Ocado for years and it’s the first time it’s happened to have gotten myself in a tizzy about it!

Mirrorxx · 08/12/2020 09:08

@Furball yes the garlic purée is very annoying and tesco will only let me buy 3 at a time

Madcats · 08/12/2020 13:16

I scanned through the papers over lunch today and read a piece about supermarket sales.

Kantar (who measure that sort of thing) have a nice sliding timeline for the year showing the various market shares of the main players, including Ocado:
www.kantarworldpanel.com/grocery-market-share/great-britain/snapshot/29.11.20/

I was very surprised that Ocado just has a 1.7% market share (admittedly a lot more than they back in January). The changeover from Waitrose to M&S seems to have made very little difference (though it will be interesting to see what next month looks like if nobody can order food).

Furball · 08/12/2020 19:43

@Mirrorxx - How bizarre, what a funny rule to have. It's obviously the equivalent of gold dust Grin

squiddybear · 08/12/2020 19:50

Order came yesterday and we had lots of forgotten items! Still charged for them but they weren't there. I did ask the driver if that was everything as was only a few bags which he confirmed we were his last delivery so yes!

My shop is so so expensive now. Also have to say the Ocado or moy park chicken has been awful the last few times all gristly and yuck!

lexloofah · 09/12/2020 06:21

Just on the app and I noticed my cutoff time for Monday's order has been brought forward from 11:30pm on Sat to 2pm Sat.

No email from them to let me know

Glad you mentioned that. I just checked and my one for Friday the 18th is the same.
