Looking like lockdown is on the cards, but my area likely won't be included.

Has anyone been into town today? (By "town" I mean the city centre, obvs!).

Someone told me a lot of shops are insisting you scan the app or leave contact details to go into shops, & were refusing entry if customers refused to do so. But DH went to some shops today & didn't get asked (he doesn't have a smart phone).

I can't see anywhere in the guidelines that says this is a legal requirement. It will prevent me from going to shops if it means risking having to self-isolate.

My daughter at Nottingham University she tested positive this week, her whole house has it and literally everyone she knows at university has it. Sounds rife.

murmurgam · 09/10/2020 18:40

75% of the positive tests in Nottingham are in the 18-22 age group apparently

That's weird. I tweeted lid asking if you needed to there & they said no because everyone should be in masks & distanced.

A quick walk round a shop shouldn't count as close prolonged contact surely

TheOrchidKiller · 09/10/2020 19:16

Thanks @Nquartz.
I checked the official guidance too and shops are not on the list of places where you have to provide your details. So unless the council have some strange powers to enforce it, I don't know why they're doing it.

Guidance at work (NHS) is that if there is a positive case we trace contacts but if everyone was PPE'd correctly /socially distanced the contacts don't need to self-isolate. So that makes sense if people are wearing masks & keeping a distance in shops.

The person who told me this had been along Listergate & witnessed someone being denied access. They themselves had obliged. They said some shops were asking for addresses which is not in the guidelines.

Not sure I can face a debate with a stressed shop manager when all I want is a quick browse.

TwentyViginti · 09/10/2020 19:45

@TheOrchidKiller

That's very concerning! are shops just doing this off their own bat?

TheOrchidKiller · 09/10/2020 21:16

I don't know. Might have to investigate tomorrow Confused

Cookerhood · 09/10/2020 22:08

Does anyone know why Rushcliffe is so high? I don't know the area well but I thought a lot of it was quite rural? I have to go to Ruddington next week & wondering if I will have to cancel.

Catmint · 09/10/2020 22:29

I live in LE. I popped to the post office today, town was busy but mask wearing is definitely more common.

Anyway I really came on to say hello to other MNers near me.

I've always seen mask compliance as really high around LE, stapleford & Sandiacre. But something obviously isn't working.

Does anyone want to hazard a guess why Broxtowe is so much higher than Erewash? Populations are Broxtowe 113k, Erewash 115k a

Nquartz · 09/10/2020 22:36

A

Nquartz · 09/10/2020 22:37

Sorry!! Fat thumbs 🤦🏻‍♀️

Populations comparable, but does Erewash cover more rural areas maybe?!

Flev · 09/10/2020 22:59

Broxtowe has a lot of students in and around beeston, so the large numbers being picked up amongst the student population will be contributing.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/10/2020 23:41

Rushcliffe has a proportion of NTU students in West Bridgford.

Erewash has Long Eaton and Ilkeston and the majority is more rural to the Derby border.
picklemewalnuts · 10/10/2020 08:30

It's more than tripled in the last seven days where I am,

whoisyennefer · 10/10/2020 10:15

Another one in Long Eaton, waves to everyone! I always thought we were good on mask compliance in LE. My work covers a large patch of the region and I have been interested in different tasks across different shops and towns/ cities. My office is central Nottingham and recently I have been to the Asda in hays on green, I was really shocked at how many people weren't wearing masks or wearing masks in a way which makes them pointless.

DominaShantotto · 10/10/2020 10:44

Broxtowe's figures are fucked cos of the student population in Beeston really. I'm about as far on the edge of Broxtowe as you can get - literally 2 mins walk and I'm into Derbyshire but fairly confident we're due for lockdown.

I physically can't wear a mask - god knows I've tried multiple times and made myself very ill. I just don't go out unless utterly unavoidable.

GrumpySausage · 10/10/2020 10:45

My dad keeps saying he think the lockdown will be done on postcode areas rather than the whole county. Anyone think the same? I'm sceptical but it would mean those of us on the outing areas with lower rates may not be penalised as much.

Nice to see other Nottm MN on here waves

GrumpySausage · 10/10/2020 10:45

@domina by your description I think we may live very close to each other. 😊

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/10/2020 10:54

@whoisyennefer I think we've been good for mask compliance too. I think I've only ever seen one person without one in the supermarkets.

@GrumpySausage selfishly I really hope it's not done on postcodes as we are part of Derbyshire councils but with Notts postcodes.

@DominaShantotto i found the ridiculously expensive diy masks much less restricting thatn anything that fits against the face. looks like darthvaders best mate though...

BlackeyedSusan · 10/10/2020 11:16

good luck with navigating masks, it is really tricky. I can tellyou a shop where I am the only customer who does wear a mask... not much help though as it is at least 50 miles away from you Sad

children have gone to Nottingham while they still have chance.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2020 12:37

I found ASDA in hyson green the same. I wonder if it's because of the demographics of the area.

Waves to everyone in Lenton!

picklemewalnuts · 10/10/2020 13:47

I went to a slimming world class last week. All precautions followed, but I swear we were only 1m apart, apparently less than 30 of us, but more people in the room than I've seen all year!
