Looking like lockdown is on the cards, but my area likely won't be included.

@Waxonwaxoff0

It would be silly to me to lump the whole of the county into tier 3. Why should places like Mansfield be tier 3 when their infection rate is 10 times lower than Nottingham city?

I'd hope that common sense would prevail and places with high cases like the city centre and Broxtowe be assessed separately from places like Mansfield.

If they did it like Leicester they whacked a huge area in and then reduced it down at the first review point - I'd reckon they'll probably do it that way to be honest. Yes it's shit, yes it's unfair, but this whole fucking situation is so why would they change anything now?!

We're dealing with the Government here for whom anything above about the Watford Gap is "here be dragons" and then Scotland. Our only hope is that a few areas around here have Tory MPs and they seem to be going much lighter on areas which voted blue than red.

What's going to happen will happen I guess. I just wish they'd shit or get off the pot because I find the uncertainty and flip-flopping more stressful than anything else.

Nottinghamshire in what he is calling 'high' level but as there is a 'very high' level I think we are in tier two? Clear as mud as ever,

There are only Medium/High and Very High... so yep we're in tier 2

Think it's intended to show there is no green light at the end of the tunnel.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 12/10/2020 16:11

Yes I think it’s been confirmed we are tier 2, thankfully!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/10/2020 16:20

I'm still unclear as to whether I'll be classed as Nottingham or Derbyshire! Confused

Does anyone know if grandparents can still look after children for childcare? Nightmare given there is half term coming up.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/10/2020 16:23

I just asked that exact same question! I have family supposed to be helping with childcare over half term.

So tier 2 allows you into private gardens then?

Fr the guardian:

The “high” alert level reflects the interventions in many local areas at the moment. This primarily aims to reduce household to household transmission, by preventing all mixing between different households or support bubbles indoors. In these areas, the rule of six will continue to apply outdoors, where it is harder for the virus to spread, in public spaces as well as private gardens

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 12/10/2020 16:46

Reeta Chakrabarti said that was a 'surprising change' to what was expected.

Boris said there would be a postcode checker on the government website later
Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2020 18:39

What about support bubbles? Can they still visit.

whoisyennefer · 12/10/2020 20:03

Think those of us in LE are in the clear.

Anyone in Nottingham?

Yes I saw that list & was relieved.

@Toddlerteaplease I think support bubbles are allowed at tier 2

Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2020 20:17

@NoGoodPunsLeft thanks. Unfortunately my support bubble lives in Liverpool!

murmurgam · 15/10/2020 12:13

See you on Saturday in Tier2 Erewash people :-)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/10/2020 14:50

@murmurgam I saw it coming! DS was having a playdate Saturday, I'll have to cancel. Shame but inevitable.

Erewash is on my doorstep and running through the countryside kept me on the right side of sanity in the spring.

It's those pesky sheep flocking isn't it? Wink

NoGoodPunsLeft · 15/10/2020 15:17

DD was meant to be staying at my mum's Saturday night in preparation for going up a tier in a couple of weeks. Oh well Sad

picklemewalnuts · 15/10/2020 15:20

I got a bit anxious then, thought you were saying nottingham had gone up a tier, but no , more of Derbyshire's just joining us where we are.

ginghamtablecloths · 15/10/2020 15:40

Amongst all the confusion I thought we were advised to not ask for a test unless we had symptoms - yet I read that Notts students who are asymptomatic are being tested, is that right? If that is the case then it's hardly surprising that the numbers are so high and I wonder just how bad the figures would be nationally if all areas did this.

I'm in Chilwell and I only leave the house for necessary shopping and haven't been to town since February. As far as I can see most people are wearing masks, social distancing and all the rest.

NuttyinNotts · 15/10/2020 15:48

Lots of universities are running their own testing programme, so basically we are comparable with other university cities. However, the positivity rate that I last saw for Nottingham was 33%, other hard hit places like Newcastle were nearer 25%.

Universities do pick up more cases with wider testing, but they also have very high levels of infection. Of course if infections stay confined within the student population, it isn't too bad because they are mostly healthy and young. But that is a big if and some areas showing up with high rates now such as St Ann's arent exactly studentsville.

Sorry, yes I'm in Erewash
murmurgam · 15/10/2020 16:08

We're in Ashfield, I can cope with being lumped in with Nottingham as Tier2, I'd be a bit miffed if we were Tier3 as our levels are less than other places that are Tier1.

picklemewalnuts · 15/10/2020 17:38

@murmurgam I'm border Ashfield/Gedling.
