Looking like lockdown is on the cards, but my area likely won't be included.

DS lives in NG2 and says he has heard that there will not be an announcement until Wednesday. Has friends who work at QMC and the Uni and they think that the amount of testing UON are doing on those without symptoms is distorting the figures

DominaShantotto · 08/10/2020 21:29

UoN seem to be testing anything with a pulse and have one of their carparks turned over to it. No wonder the figures have gone bonkers.

We won't escape it though - now we're on the radar we're for it. That's the way it goes - you get a few week's wriggle room but once your name starts coming up - you're getting it and they don't ever really release any of them - see Leicester, still under restrictions.

Welcome to the new normal.

Snailsetssail · 08/10/2020 21:32

I’m in the county but not near the city. Am feeling absolutely furious that it’s likely I won’t see my parents this side of Christmas.

Newark cases are high because of an outbreak at Lowdham prison.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/10/2020 21:34

@Rubyduby26 I'm Erewash too, from what I understand we won't be included as we come under Derbyshire councils.

@Waxonwaxoff0 thats promising then! Hopefully we are okay for the moment, I know cases are rising in erewash too but they're not as bad as they are in Broxtowe which is a 10 minute walk from us! I suppose the boundary has to stop somewhere it just seems strange that its a 10 minute walk between lockdown and no lockdown!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/10/2020 21:49

Definitely! I find it strange how Mansfield is included when it's further away from Nottingham city than Erewash is. But like you say it has to stop somewhere.

Rubyduby26 · 08/10/2020 22:02

I know DP works in Mansfield! I guess we will have to just wait and see and hope for the best! People seem to have stuck to the guidelines throughout the whole pandemic here if I'm honest! So not sure where all the cases are coming from. I'll definitely be making the most of Lanes farm and Elvaston with DS whilst I can though, socially distanced of course Grin

girlicorne · 08/10/2020 22:54

So we now have the highest infection rate in the U.K. looks like our half term theme park tour is off 😔 I dont know how to link but it’s on bbc website.

notanoctopus · 09/10/2020 01:53

I think it's a good thing the Uni tested students. I think as a result, the real overall growth will actually be lower in Nottingham than it will otherwise be due to testing of asymptomatic students/students with symptoms not in the three the govt allows a test for. However, because of the uni testing, PUBLISHED figures will be higher as if you test more, you find more.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/10/2020 05:46

@notanoctopus yes, that's true. It just seems a shame that places like Mansfield who have pretty low infection rates will be included in the lockdown when most of the infections are concentrated around the city centre and Broxtowe where a lot of the students live.

Isn’t part of Nottingham Trent University in Mansfield now? Maybe that’s a concern.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/10/2020 08:09

@girlicorne you can still go. As long as it's from your own household.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/10/2020 08:12

@SpringFan yes, I totally agree with your DS. The hospital admissions don't seem to
Be reflecting the rise in cases.

PleasantVille · 09/10/2020 08:48

A Facebook friend of mine in Nottingham posted that she's very annoyed that mass testing of students is going to cause havoc for the local population

Is that the general feeling ?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/10/2020 09:12

@PleasantVille I've seen a lot of that on Facebook. I can understand why, it's not the fault of the students but cases were low up until they came back, now everyone faces lockdown when it's mainly the student population bumping up the numbers.

OP posts:
NuttyinNotts · 09/10/2020 09:14

I think there's another subset who are very worried about the disease, but blame the students for the spread. So they don't feel cases are artificially high and are worried it will bleed from the students into the general population.

TwentyViginti · 09/10/2020 09:17

Annoyed Notts was told to expect restrictions announced today, now on Monday to take effect Wednesday!

The city centre will be rammed this weekend.

Woman in the hairdressers the other week was absolutely raging about the students. Their heinous crimes were "all getting off the tram together"... at the bloody university tram stop - and "all standing around in the streets together"... waiting for the tram at the tram stop.

Considering the rhetoric of this one has been particularly and almost totally directed at the students - I fear that there's going to be a huge swathe of resentment at the student population - most of whom have been behaving perfectly sensibly and being very careful but just not being noticed... because they were behaving sensibly and being careful and just getting on with things - as is always the case the loud rule breakers draw attention to that minority.

I'm privately really irked that the uni turning one of their carparks over into some kind of CSI factory of covid setup is going to lock us down - but meh, it was coming our way sooner or later.

Nice map in this article

Toddlerteaplease · 09/10/2020 13:21

@PleasantVille yes, I think it is the general view. UON has its own testing centre as a PP said.

GrumpySausage · 09/10/2020 13:46

@pleasentville yes I think that is the feeling. The few I've spoke to about this have said similar.

I live on the very outskirts of Nottinghamshire but Broxtowe Borough. One of the student campuses is 10 miles away but in the same Borough so means my area will likely go into lockdown.

I initially thought they may do lockdown as postcodes and then my area and other outlying areas wouldn't have to go into lockdown but the media seems to suggest it'll be the whole county.

murmurgam · 09/10/2020 15:15

Love that they're interviewing all these people in Nottingham City Centre who say they're very worried and want them to bring in restrictions. You'd think if they were worried they'd be at home instead of market square!

picklemewalnuts · 09/10/2020 16:38

People are not great at common sense.

Nquartz · 09/10/2020 16:47

I'm another one in erewash but can walk into broxtowe from my house in about 15 mins so would seem weird that I could go to my mum's house round the corner but not someone's in stapleford. I work in Notts but luckily am working from home full time again.

Erewash cases are still low but definitely on the rise unfortunately.

this is great for daily stats: www.covidmessenger.com

Nquartz · 09/10/2020 16:48

Also it's nice to know there are some other mumsnetters locally Smile
