Looking like lockdown is on the cards, but my area likely won't be included.

To answer a pp question about why Broxtowe is so high, I live 5 min walk from Ikea and it is rammed with mile long queues outside, day and night, every day of the week. A friend works for a local authority and says that's a huge factor 🤷‍♀️

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 10/10/2020 14:11

I went in to Nottingham yesterday and I didn't see anyone scanning codes or being asked to.

I also like five minutes walk from IKEA!🤯

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 10/10/2020 14:13

I went to IKEA last week for meatballs only at 9am and they wouldn't let me in the Swedish Market end, I had to go in the entrance and walk the entire way round. I was there about 45 minutes when I should have been there three minutes.

murmurgam · 10/10/2020 14:29

We normally go to Ikea in the evening when it's quiet but the other week they still had a queue at least 50 long at 6 30/7 on. We just went to M&S instead and skipped what we needed from Ikea

ChaChaCha2012 · 10/10/2020 14:39

That's nonsense about IKEA causing the high rate in Broxtowe. Cases are allocated according to home address, not where you've been shopping, and more people visiting IKEA are from outside Broxtowe than in it. Also, the transmission rate in shops is still extremely low.

Broxtowe has Beeston in it, which has a very high student population.

toomanypillows · 10/10/2020 14:49

I'm in Ashfield and I'll be very miffed if they bring in tight restrictions here - Nottingham City have 7 times the cases we do!

Particularly as I have a job interview on Thursday which is in person. I really really don't want to do it on Zoom 😭😭

GrumpySausage · 10/10/2020 14:51

I agree @chachacha.

If someone has tested positive they wont have put IKEA as their address, and people come from all over Nottinghamshire (and further) to visit IKEA.

I hate to say it but Beeston Campus probably explains it for the higher rate in Broxtowe Borough

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/10/2020 15:23

Broxtowe was relatively high even before the students came back, I think it was about number 30 in the nationwide list of boroughs weeks ago. I wondered at the time if it was due to high numbers of healthcare staff living in beeston and chilwell.

Nquartz · 10/10/2020 15:31

@TalkingIntoTheEther I agree, I've been tracking Broxtowe & Erewash for a few weeks (live in Erewash, v close to Broxtowe) & Broxtowe has consistently been higher. It wasn't long ago they had 3 mobile testing units.

Even after the pub related outbreak in Ilkeston a few weeks ago Erewash numbers didn't get as high.

If you want daily cases by up to 5 areas you can sign to this (it was set up by a mumsnetter)

picklemewalnuts · 10/10/2020 15:51

Wouldn't you be asked where you've been, when you test positive? Could a lot of people have listed Ikea as somewhere they've been?

I was thinking of going- mainly because I've not been for many many months and I'm a bit bored! I don't suppose I will now.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 10/10/2020 22:23

@picklemewalnuts we went on a Sunday recently & it was actually ok.

I'd recommend getting there for opening because later on there was a massive queue to get in. Mask compliance was high & because numbers are limited it definitely didn't feel too crowded. The restaurant was quite empty when we had lunch (midday) but busier wh e n we'd finished but tables really spaced out.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 11/10/2020 17:02

Does anyone.have the track and trade app? I'm in erewash & it still says medium risk, if anyone is elsewhere in the actual city does it say high risk? Thanks Smile

TwentyViginti · 11/10/2020 18:32

Nottingham’s weekly rate of new Covid-19 cases has climbed even higher and has now topped 800 cases per 100,000 people, the latest data shows.

The local authority continues to have the highest rate in England, with 2,763 new cases recorded in the seven days to 8 October – the equivalent of 830.0 cases per 100,000 people."

From the Gaurdian's Coronavirus live news.

Anyone think we'll be on tier three tomorrow?

Dinnertime22 · 11/10/2020 18:40

I really hope not. It is not looking good though. Is this due to the Uni and prison testing though?

Flev · 11/10/2020 18:45

I hope they give us a little time on the tier 2 restrictions to see if it brings it down, but I suspect they won't.

TwentyViginti · 11/10/2020 18:58

More than likely the uni and prison testing bumping the numbers up.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 11/10/2020 19:20

When I saw that Liverpool was going into tier 3 in tomorrow’s announcement I thought we were destined for the same fate, but according to the news today tier 3 is for boroughs in which tier 2 has failed to bring numbers down, so surely we have to be given some time on tier 2?

Snailsetssail · 11/10/2020 19:22

There isn’t much difference between tier 2 and 3 for me. I want to see my family and friends and can’t do that on either.

I’m really hoping they exclude the prison figures when making decisions. The rate with them is 196 per 100,000 for N&S and without them is less than 40 per 100,000!

TalkingIntoTheEther · 11/10/2020 19:25

I thought tier 2 allowed for meeting people (within the rule of 6) outdoors?

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/10/2020 19:57

I think with tier 2 you can meet indoors as well, in cafes, etc?

NuttyinNotts · 11/10/2020 20:01

Our case positivity rate is a shocking 33% positive. So that's not just a case of increased testing meaning increased cases found. So whilst it may be concentrated in students and prisoners, it is absolutely rife there.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/10/2020 20:38

It would be silly to me to lump the whole of the county into tier 3. Why should places like Mansfield be tier 3 when their infection rate is 10 times lower than Nottingham city?

I'd hope that common sense would prevail and places with high cases like the city centre and Broxtowe be assessed separately from places like Mansfield.

Snailsetssail · 11/10/2020 21:11

@Waxonwaxoff0 I really hope so too!

Snailsetssail · 11/10/2020 21:12

The prison testing counts in Newark and Sherwood not Nottingham city and so isn’t driving cases up there. Students obviously are though.

Carriemac · 12/10/2020 09:06

We should be tier 2 . Obviously the mass testing of students is distorting the numbers
