Being denied entry because you dont have the track and trace app?

I haven't downloaded the app due to personal reasons.
I have started hearing stories about people being denied entry to pubs/ restaurants and cafes because they havent got the app.
Is this true?
Now I'm wondering what I'd do if it came into work, or if I'm told its compulsory to have to go to the supermarket?
Pretty sure its not a legal requirement yet.

Why do you have a phone ? Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/09/2020 20:52

What has that got to do with my dentist @VivaMiltonKeynes?!

Since you ask it's because I need one for my Apple Watch unfortunately!

Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 30/09/2020 00:11

@tribpot

The app does not use GPS. See help page 'Will the NHS COVID-19 app be used for location tracking'
You are right, sorry it uses the bluetooth only, not gps.

@LangClegsInSpace

FFS how difficult would it be for them to send venues some posters with a QR code for customers to check out as they leave? Confused They'd get far more accurate data.
This is a great suggestion or update app to have a check out button
Snowmonster · 30/09/2020 05:55

I wasnt allowed to eat in at costa coffee because I didnt have the app and I couldnt sign in to the website to leave my details (I dont have a smart phone). One in 4 people apparently dont have a phone with the capability to have track test and trace...

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 30/09/2020 06:04

I’m in scotland and can’t get the app to download.

I don’t have a particularly old phone, either.

I think places would be daft to do this as they would be turning lots of business away

eaglejulesk · 30/09/2020 08:48

That is ridiculous @Snowmonster

I'm in NZ and businesses here (well, in my town anyway) all have a sheet of paper for the details of those who can't sign in with their phones.

Xenia · 30/09/2020 08:56

This is even putting me off trying to eat in a cafe so if cafe owners really want to lose even more business then they are shooting themselves in the foot. If instead they have more than enough customers and want to cut off older people like I am as they want a young and pretty crowd then I suppose this will work to an extent and I will not be upgrading my blackberry! I would rather eat at home.

You don't take it to the gym, you don't take it to the hairdresser , you don't take it to the dentist . You have to see that that is funny Wink
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/09/2020 12:08

Hilarious. If you’d read the post I’m not allowed to take it to the dentist.

I’m not sure why I need it at the hairdresser or gym to be honest either, I don’t make phone calls from either. If I need to send a message urgently I do it from my watch.

Yes I understand PinkSparklyPussyCat. To be honest I think my NHS dentist has given up on me as well. Normally he is begging me to book an appointment every 6 months but heard zilch since last December 😧

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/09/2020 18:24

Same here @WendyE. They wrote to me and sent a texts but I forgot to make an appointment. I then phoned them when the website said they were seeing patients but was told I couldn’t book an appointment, I have to wait for them to phone me!

HunkyPunk · 30/09/2020 18:29

Dh and I visited a small West Country town yesterday and had lunch there. Of the 7 (including us) tables I was aware of the owner approaching, only two had been able/had chosen to download the app. There was no drama. The owner simply brought us and the other tables a slip of paper to be filled in manually with name. phone number, and times of arrival and departure. This was handed in as we left.

WendyE · 30/09/2020 18:38

It's really frustrating @PinkSparklyPussyCat. I have seen the hygienist no problem (private of course) but NHS dentist has gone to ground ☹

nannykatherine · 30/09/2020 22:22

“Due to personal reasons “
?
No phone ?

Xenia · 01/10/2020 19:02

Our NHS dentist is not seeing any regular patients. I hope tax payers are not paying them still ! (no one is giving me furlough or self employed money)..... They did see my son who have wisdom tooth pain but could cannot do any root canal work - thiis is all on the NHS -so it is a poke around, removal of filling and pain killers only.

ResistGovCorruption · 03/07/2021 11:40

Yesterday, I was refused entry by KFC who told me if I couldn't scan the QR code, I couldn't eat in.

I only had my keys and purse with me, I don't have a smart phone anyway. Eventually after much arguing, they produced a log sheet, but by then I couldn't face eating there.

Why did KFC cause so much trouble and embarrassment I don't know, but I'll never eat from there again!

wordsareveryunnecessary · 03/07/2021 14:07

I hold my phone and "scan" but no Bluetooth is switched on 🤭
