Being denied entry because you dont have the track and trace app?

I haven't downloaded the app due to personal reasons.
I have started hearing stories about people being denied entry to pubs/ restaurants and cafes because they havent got the app.
Is this true?
Now I'm wondering what I'd do if it came into work, or if I'm told its compulsory to have to go to the supermarket?
Pretty sure its not a legal requirement yet.

have downloaded mine, dont see any reason why not to

Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 28/09/2020 19:25

@PinkSparklyPussyCat. I never said anything about op not willing to provide details I was re-enforcing the fact that establishments MUST take info either via qr scan or manual. I was sticking up for OP and giving information to support this

I’m sorry, but now you are just being ridiculous! If your Mum is in her 90s, has early stages of dementia and lives in a care home/assisted accommodation, she’s not likely to be visiting the local pubs and restaurants is she? Why are you trying to use that example as a reason not to download the app? You have no idea how stupid you sound.[/quote]
Fuck off. She wanted to go out for a meal with us. Why the fuck shouldn't she?

You are prize bitch with the empathy of a fucking house brick.

Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 28/09/2020 19:30

@Rudolphian. It’s a legal requirement for establishments to take contact information but this can be via qr code scan or manually and they MUST not refuse entry if you ARE willing to give details either manually or via qr code, Which you said you would and offered to do so.

Like I said in a previous response, the establishment faces fines for failure to comply. If someone fails to take your information you can report them to the local authority if you wish to. If you chose not to that would be understandable but would mean the establishment will continue to operate incorrectly and would be breaking the law.

I misunderstood, I apologise Blush

Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 28/09/2020 19:33

I would like to clarify the information I have referred to is in reference to hospitality establishments only as other venues that are not deemed hospitality do not have to take details but are encouraged to.

NotAKaren · 28/09/2020 19:40

I am surprised how many people are willing to put themselves in a position of potentially having to legally quarantine at the whim of a flawed and possibly dysfunctional app.

How long before we hear the stories of the outraged people who have been told to isolate for 14 days by an app. I can see the DM headlines already.

slowdriver · 28/09/2020 19:51

@twoglassesofprosecco

Since it doesn't work on many many phones, places will have to provide an alternative method of checking in.
Since the app works on Android phones and IOS (Apple) phones, and Android and IOS have a 99%+ share of the UK phone market (gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/mobile/united-kingdom) you might want to substitute "a few" for "many many" . The more significant obstacle is that not everyone has a smart phone of any description.
Pumpkinpie1 · 28/09/2020 20:03

The app doesn’t work properly anyway . I’m happy to provide my details but get the app , 6 months ago yes but now to save government face no thanks

HunkyPunk · 28/09/2020 20:10

You are prize bitch with the empathy of a fucking house brick.

Grin Grin

Of course on MN all 60 plus 90 yr olds have had their lives and have no right to expect to do normal family things like enjoying a meal out. And heaven forbid anyone with dementia being allowed out of their sheltered accommodation. Ffs. Some people have no clue about anything outside their own little bubble.

niugboo · 28/09/2020 20:10

It doesn’t matter if it’s a legal requirement by the government or not. If venues want to take the extra cautious approach good on them. Loads of places here are refusing entry if you don’t have it including my hairdressers.

Carriecakes80 · 28/09/2020 20:17

I got rid of the app when it sucked all the battery life from my phone, and my dad realised after his test he couldn't put it onto the app because it requires a code.
Its another monumental cock up - not enough people will have it for it to be useful.Operation Moonshot will be operation load of boll()cks too.
More money down the drain, and its run by SERCO not The NHS, they are putting the NHS on there because they know its shite and want to make it easier to continue to sell it from underneath us.
This govt makes me sicker than covid EVER could.

My hairdressers has a very high proportion of elderly customers so they could quite possibly go under if they refuse to allow them in without an app. As much as I like the salon, I'd have no sympathy whatsoever if they did. I don't think they will though as I saw the clipboard on the counter when I walked past so hopefully they will take the sensible approach. I never take my phone to the hairdressers with me anyway!
HeIenaDove · 28/09/2020 20:23

@PinkSparklyPussyCat My hairdresser is doing the same Paper details if you dont have the app. They have been trading for forty years and a lot of their customers are way over 60.

Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 28/09/2020 20:39

No probs @PinkSparklyPussyCat

It’s very confusing for lots of people the who what why etc and the guidance isn’t always written or said clearly until you get down to the specific guidance detail.

It’s such a strange, stressful and difficult time for ALL and as long as we all try our best to stay safe, follow the rules/guidance then hopefully we can get back to something near normal sooner rather than later

winniestone37 · 28/09/2020 20:42

Gosh I didn’t realise so many of you were of national interest and unable to use the app as a result. Obviously it would be a horrendous infringement of your colossal importance to be forced to help manage the pandemic and use the app. Well done for standing up for really important people like yourselves.

Enoughnowstop · 28/09/2020 20:42

What is ridiculous about a grandparent spending time with their family? Have you spent much time around people with dementia? You are aware that it presents differently for different people and in the early stages, just comes across as a bit of a personality quirk rather than anything more serious? You are aware that there are people living with dementia out there who are eating out, going on holiday, spending quality time with their families all day, every day? That having dementia is not an immediate death sentence and doesn't mean that people are incapable of enjoying the company of their family?

I sincerely hope dementia is something you never have to cope with in your family or yourself personally.

@redlockscelt sorry you have had to put up with this shite. Hope your mum's OK and you're able to get out and enjoy quality time together.

a significant number of people posting here have said that they have an iphone 6. Perfectly functioning phones that do everything you need and plenty more. Ecologically unsound to condem a working phone, not to mention the cost, being stuck in a contract etc etc If the Government want us all to get out spending, they need to find a way of including those of us who don't feel the need to screw the environment with a new phone every 6 months..... I'm not old by any stretch of anyone's imagination. And quite clearly I am not on my own.

gamerchick · 28/09/2020 20:44

It's not a legal requirement for customers/clients and to scan the app. They can of course make that a condition of visiting their establishment, and we can vote with our feet

It's not a legal requirement -yet- this shit always evolves.

Lovely13 · 28/09/2020 20:46

I was not sure about the app. Hoped my ‘old’ (five years!) phone wouldn’t support. It just made the grade. So I’ve reluctantly put it on in the unlikely event it gets this covid mess sorted sooner than later. But given what I’ve just seen on panorama re test and trace, I’m not hopeful. 🙁

niugboo · 28/09/2020 20:47

@PinkSparklyPussyCat if they don’t have a phone with the capacity to download the app I’m sure most reasonable hairdressers or whomever would accept that reason. But not downloading just because, that’s different and it’s quite reasonable to tell them to bog off.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 28/09/2020 20:47

@earnshaw47

have downloaded mine, dont see any reason why not to
If you'd RTFT you'd soon see that a great many have phones that don't support the bloody app.
niugboo · 28/09/2020 20:49

@gamerchick they won’t make it a legal requirement, they can’t create an absolute legal requirement to do something if a person doesn’t have the capacity to do it. All they have to do is tell business owners to make reasonable endeavours. Which many are doing anyway.

whirlwindwallaby · 28/09/2020 20:49

My grandmother is in 80s and has a smartphone, but someone would have to download the app for her and use it for her, talking her through it many times before she would remember how to do it herself.

niugboo · 28/09/2020 20:50

@Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd any examples of people without the capacity to download being refused entry when they’ve explained that?

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 28/09/2020 20:50

Obviously being a sneery arsehole is a pathetic attempt to be witty. Hmm

Nevermind the number of people who don't have a phone that supports the bloody app. Hmm
