Being denied entry because you dont have the track and trace app?

Rudolphian · 27/09/2020 18:54

I haven't downloaded the app due to personal reasons.
I have started hearing stories about people being denied entry to pubs/ restaurants and cafes because they havent got the app.
Is this true?
Now I'm wondering what I'd do if it came into work, or if I'm told its compulsory to have to go to the supermarket?
Pretty sure its not a legal requirement yet.

@poshme

I spent hours trying to get it. Had to download updated operating system. Took about 4 hours. Tried to install operating system. Phone says it can't. Can't download app if operating system not updated. My phone is only 2 years old.
Which phone have you got
Heatherjayne1972 · 28/09/2020 21:57

Pointless at the dentist
We already have your name address phone numbers email etc
Our computers record what time you arrived and left And everyone else who was there (and staff) at the same time
We already have all the details and more for the t+t people. No need for a QR code -still have one though

I don’t understand why people are so negative about the App and QR code’s. They are both there for everyone’s safety do that if they come into contact with someone who has the virus they can be contacted and informed. It’s pretty simple really.

So's reading a mumsnet thread.

Jesus Fucking H Christ! If this virus has shown us anything it is how fucking thick the population is and how many can't read and understand a simple sentence

But why are we in lockdown when no one is dying?

My hairdresser provides a bag to put your bag in, hand gel and a free mask. They also take your temperature before you're even half way through the door. And absolutely every customer wears a mask. I've not been for 5 weeks but I fully expect them to have the track and trace scan poster at the door for my next appointment on Thursday. I have no problem with this.

Just do it people - instead of whining and moaning, let's fight this bugger virus.

@LangClegsInSpace

Venues will very soon realise that the majority of people won't use the app. Take up has been low in pretty much all countries except China and South Korea.
Very true of aus Went from the most talked about, pushed app by the government To as good as nothing about it Very few have downloaded it. We don't even know how many of the original downloads have now been deleted. I don't have it, no one I know does, never had to use it to check in or whatever, even at the footy with 20,000

Not sure where you are in Aus but nearly everyone I know has downloaded it and restaurants/pubs/venues are using sign ins and QR code’s - few people whinge and it’s working.

Concerned7777 · 29/09/2020 04:08

we just did the QR code thing on DHs smartphone (which didn't have the app)
@exiledfromcornwall how does that work then if you don't have the app what exactly do you scan the QR too and what's the purpose of scanning if you don't have the app how would T&T contact you without the app. Sorry if I'm being thick here I'm not very tech-savvy I'm unsure how it all works

im SA I've been to the footy with 20,000 no need for app, not even asked No shops I've been too have wanted it or asked. I work in a town where tourists stop, relax, have a break, fill up car, before they continue on, none of the cafes or servos have them. No food places like maccas ask for it, it may be in store but I've never seen it or been asked to do it. Not in local pubs Not in major shopping centers

Plus under Aus law businesses can't make it a condition of entry, at best they can ask.
-from safework aus- It's important to remember that the use of COVIDSafe is completely voluntary. A person (including an employer) must not require a worker or other person, including customers, to download or use COVIDSafe. This includes requiring workers to download COVIDSafe onto work issued and private mobile phones

So given it's not enforceable and SA is largely back to normal, the uptake is low here, especially in my neck of the woods.

People saying just do it must be very rich people. Loads of people cannot afford a smart phone or keep theirs for 10 y ears so is out of date. I have a blackberry. My neighbour has a landline. Saying "just do it" is not use to those who cannot "just do it".

Is this the new "cancel the cheque"? 🙄
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 29/09/2020 08:30

Squeekums, Australia quarantined incomers early in the pandemic, didn’t it? So it has a low Covid-19 death rate. But the UK government put no controls on the thousands of people arriving or returning here until the end of June, by which time Covid-19 had poured in. So we have a huge death rate and loads of problems.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 29/09/2020 08:34

Xenia, I don’t think Johnson or his advisers know or care that huge numbers of people can’t afford the latest technology. It’s all just talk and bluster.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/09/2020 08:36

I've got the app and scanned myself into two places yesterday.

I've turned the blue tooth tracking off though.

I can't put the app on my phone as there's no space (really need to get a new phone with a bigger memory!)

However I can do the QR code without an app. It depends on your phone but on mine you take a photo of it, go to the photo in your gallery and in the "more" option there's a QR code option (I can't remember the exact wording of it)...anyway this takes you to a website that then logs your check-in at that place, in my case a specific branch of Neros.

HoneyBee03 · 29/09/2020 10:09

Everywhere I've been has the QR code for the app as well as another QR code for giving them your details without the app, as it was before the app was released. I've absolutely no idea how to scan a QR code however and most places I've been to aren't checking you've scanned anything. I don't know a single person who has downloaded the app and I think if our local pub enforced it they would lose a lot of customers.

ancientgran · 29/09/2020 10:11

DH has done a software update on our phones, his now has the app working my phone is older and even with the update it can't cope with the app. Does anyone know if it is acceptable for us to go to say a restaurant and just one of us have the app? When it was signing in on paper they accepted one doing it for the group but does it have to be individual with the app?

Thanks for any advice, I really don't want to have to buy a new phone.

Concerned7777 · 29/09/2020 10:19

@ancientgran as far as I'm aware only 1 person in your group needs to check in whether that's by the app or signing in with pen and paper

ancientgran · 29/09/2020 10:22

@winniestone37 Gosh I didn’t realise so many of you were of national interest and unable to use the app as a result. Obviously it would be a horrendous infringement of your colossal importance to be forced to help manage the pandemic and use the app. Well done for standing up for really important people like yourselves. I'm of no national interest at all but unfortunately the app won't work with my phone. I'm nearly 70, I've been my husband's carer for 30 years, I have a phone, a smart phone, it is immaculate, it works perfectly well in every other way but I can't download the app. Does your sarcasm make you feel like you are the terribly important person compared to those of us with old phones?

ancientgran · 29/09/2020 10:27

Thank you Concerned. To be honest we don't go out alot, DH is disabled, but just occasionally if he is feeling reasonably OK it is nice to go out for a meal. Fifty years a housewife and I'm sick of cooking!

We live in a seaside town in Devon, sometimes we go to a local typical seaside cafe for lunch and they are lovely and know us well and I don't think they'd turn us away so we can always go there. In lockdown our meal out was fish and chips in the car parked on the seafront. We made it a bit nice by taking plates, cutlery, napkins, glasses and drinks. If we have to we can always go back to that.

I’m not rich. I have a Samsung Android phone, a few years old. You don’t need an expensive top of the range phone to download the App. Obviously if you only have a landline you won’t be able to, so just use the paper/pen option if you go to a pub/restaurant. It’s really not that difficult to comply with what’s being asked of us. One million people have now died from this virus, if you CAN do it, just do it.
Ilovemypantry · 29/09/2020 11:10

Because there are a lot of people that are full of their own self importance and think they have the right to opt out of any of the measures being put in place for everyone’s safety. I guarantee that none of these people have actually lost a loved one to COVID. People are just selfish and stupid sadly.
Ilovemypantry · 29/09/2020 11:16

@bakebeans

Yes happened to me. I was told I had to download the app in order to enter a pub. It was cold and everywhere was full so I did. I’ve now deleted it. Won’t be using it again. Happy to provide my full details but I won’t be using the app again.
So you successfully downloaded the app but have now deleted it and won’t use it again 🙄. Why?
