Being denied entry because you dont have the track and trace app?

I haven't downloaded the app due to personal reasons.
I have started hearing stories about people being denied entry to pubs/ restaurants and cafes because they havent got the app.
Is this true?
Now I'm wondering what I'd do if it came into work, or if I'm told its compulsory to have to go to the supermarket?
Pretty sure its not a legal requirement yet.
@gamerchick they won’t make it a legal requirement, they can’t create an absolute legal requirement to do something if a person doesn’t have the capacity to do it. All they have to do is tell business owners to make reasonable endeavours. Which many are doing anyway.
No but they can make it difficult for those who won't use it to go anywhere or do anything.

They will, just give it time.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 28/09/2020 20:51
@Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd any examples of people without the capacity to download being refused entry when they’ve explained that?
Why is the onus on me to go digging round to provide you with fucking examples? What is this, a court? You need justification and validation for everything in your life? You're unable to form your own conclusions, judgements and opinions without Google? Fucking hell.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/09/2020 20:57
@PinkSparklyPussyCat if they don’t have a phone with the capacity to download the app I’m sure most reasonable hairdressers or whomever would accept that reason. But not downloading just because, that’s different and it’s quite reasonable to tell them to bog off.
How do they know what phone I've got? Do I have to produce it to prove what phone I've got? I don't take my phone or a bag to the hairdressers

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 28/09/2020 20:58

If your phone can run the app you can just use it to get in the place and then delete it, they won’t go running round checking everyone still has it on their phone so it’s pretty useless really for making people feel ‘safe’

Or buy a burner phone, for sure. But people will condone anything for the illusion of safety from Covid.
WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 28/09/2020 21:02

Yes, how do they know which phone you have, iPhones 6 to 8 look pretty similar if you look at them

earnshaw47 · 28/09/2020 21:04

i downloaded mine with no problem at all

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 28/09/2020 21:08

Wow, go you! Have a Star. And again, some people don't have a phone that can support the app.
niugboo · 28/09/2020 21:15

@Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd you’re making stuff up. I’m saying it doesn’t happen. I can’t prove it doesn’t exist. The onus is on you to prove it does. Or just keep spouting nonsense and believing it. The choice is yours.

niugboo · 28/09/2020 21:16

@PinkSparklyPussyCat then expect to get turned away. Or just put your phone in your bag. Why would you be deliberately obstructive?

niugboo · 28/09/2020 21:17

@gamerchick I fully support them making it difficult for those being obstructive just to be dicks.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/09/2020 21:23

I'm not being obstructive, I don't take a bag to the hairdresser. You may have missed it but a lot of hairdressers don't want you taking in anything you don't actually need so I take my debit card in my pocket and that's all.

You also seem to be missing the point about how they'd know what phone I've got. Do you think I should have to prove it to them?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/09/2020 21:24

My hairdressers pen and paper tracking is much more effective than the app as they actually log the time you leave unlike the app.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 28/09/2020 21:25
@gamerchick I fully support them making it difficult for those being obstructive just to be dicks.
People aren’t being obstructive if their phone doesn’t support the app, they can’t make it work if it isn’t the right version of Bluetooth on the phone, did you not know that?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/09/2020 21:27

Niugboo is probably talking about people like me who dare to go out without their phone and therefore don't use the bloody app @WhentheDealGoesDown1

ZoChan · 28/09/2020 21:27

Haven't read the full thread- but I saw a QR code on the gate of our woodland playground today....

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 28/09/2020 21:29

Yes, true about not taking stuff to hairdressers, likewise the dentist, best to leave phone in the car or at home and just take cards to pay. My hairdressers has my contact details anyway as they text me a reminder

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 28/09/2020 21:30

Well, I deleted the bloody app, waste of space

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/09/2020 21:33

My new dentist actually says don't take anything in, you pay buy phone and they ask you to remove jewellery which I think is a bit OTT. I haven't actually been yet as I can't shake this stupid cough (allergy) but I'm going to check the jewellery bit first!

It sounds like some of you are still living in the early days of Covid when people were wiping down their groceries Confused
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/09/2020 21:36

Jesus Christ, I can assure you my dentist's website says no coats or bags and jewellery to be removed.

Oh and I've never wiped down shopping from day one...

bakebeans · 28/09/2020 21:39

Yes happened to me. I was told I had to download the app in order to enter a pub. It was cold and everywhere was full so I did.
I’ve now deleted it. Won’t be using it again. Happy to provide my full details but I won’t be using the app again.

exiledfromcornwall · 28/09/2020 21:41

I went to a pub yesterday armed with my smartphone with the app dutifully installed. When I got there I was astonished to find that the battery was completely dead. I had checked it earlier in the day and there was plenty of battery life left. I can only conclude it was the app that drained the battery. Fortunately the pub in question didn't insist on us using the app, we just did the QR code thing with DH's smartphone (which didn't have the app).

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 28/09/2020 21:41

It’s the rules on my dentists website as well, no coats, bags or phones and pay by card, and hope it’s not raining...

poshme · 28/09/2020 21:52

I spent hours trying to get it. Had to download updated operating system. Took about 4 hours. Tried to install operating system. Phone says it can't.
Can't download app if operating system not updated.
My phone is only 2 years old.
