Being denied entry because you dont have the track and trace app?

I haven't downloaded the app due to personal reasons.
I have started hearing stories about people being denied entry to pubs/ restaurants and cafes because they havent got the app.
Is this true?
Now I'm wondering what I'd do if it came into work, or if I'm told its compulsory to have to go to the supermarket?
Pretty sure its not a legal requirement yet.

Deliberately and repeatedly equating those who can't download an app because they don't possess the requisite hardware, with those who refuse to provide contact details:

👉 Shows a blatant level of selective blanking of numerous posts explaining that they have the former issue, not the latter.

👉 Or, shows a distinct lack of reading comprehension.

👉 Or, is a neat little bit of bait-and-switch which allows one to enjoy a warm feeling of righteousness.

(Disclosure: I have always willingly provided my contact details at all public locations I have attended; also I am an owner of a sufficiently new and compatible device and will install the app if/when I next attend a public location).

Concerned7777 · 29/09/2020 11:49

As long as people leave their details should it matter whether it's done via the app or by pen and paper? You don't get extra brownie points for using the app

This is exactly my view.

Like people who don't know the difference between prepping and panic buying? They get lumped in together as well.

People are selfish idiots! ALL OF THEM! And I'm the fucking worst, me. I only have two paper cups and a piece of string, and a maxi pack of bog roll in the loft.
exiledfromcornwall · 29/09/2020 12:56

@Concerned7777

we just did the QR code thing on DHs smartphone (which didn't have the app) *@exiledfromcornwall* how does that work then if you don't have the app what exactly do you scan the QR too and what's the purpose of scanning if you don't have the app how would T&T contact you without the app. Sorry if I'm being thick here I'm not very tech-savvy I'm unsure how it all works
For a while now many pubs have been placing laminated cards on the tables with QR codes which you can use to give the pub your details - this predates the introduction of the app and is independent of it. HTH.
whirlwindwallaby · 29/09/2020 12:58
@ancientgran as far as I'm aware only 1 person in your group needs to check in whether that's by the app or signing in with pen and paper
How do you prove to your workplace that you have to isolate if you were part of a group and didn't give your own details?

Hobbesmanc · 29/09/2020 13:12

Very busy pub/restaurant in Manchester on Sunday afternoon compulsory use of the ap and masks in the queue. People were being asked to download it there and then before allowed entry.

The server asked us to confirm we were from one household too- but Manchester is under tighter restrictions.

Can someone explain why you have to sign in somewhere but not sign out. Surely you could be somewhere early in the day and someone who comes in after you have left has the virus.

If there is no indication when you have left then how can this be of any use?

By using the app your check in scan will show you have left the establishment as the Bluetooth and gps within the app shows location change without you having to do anything or divulge personal info until necessary.
Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 29/09/2020 16:37

Also places if manually taking info should record exit times where possible, also you could keep your own location/movement diary to help with this.

JamieLeeCurtains · 29/09/2020 16:37

John Munch wouldn't like it.

viques · 29/09/2020 16:41

@SoUtterlyGroundDown

Don’t get me wrong, when all this started and the app was first mooted I was keen for it to be launched and to download it. But as time has gone on and more and more lies have been told, and the more the government has proved itself to be totally untrustworthy and incompetent, I’ve changed my mind.
Ditto.

That's what my hairdressers have been doing. It seems much better than the app as you can't sign out using the QR code

I hope you're right, but is there anywhere where this is officially stated? I've been searching, but I haven't found it.

Sleeeeeeeeeeep · 29/09/2020 17:26

@wanderings. Ive attached a photo of information from this web address explaining all about the app

I had to download it to attend the gym.

If I ever get back to mine (not my favourite place!) I'll have to book in so I don't see the point of using the app as they'll already have my details. The gym is somewhere else I don't take my phone - I don't want to be putting it down and forgetting it!
WendyE · 29/09/2020 18:41

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

My new dentist actually says don't take anything in, you pay buy phone and they ask you to remove jewellery which I think is a bit OTT. I haven't actually been yet as I can't shake this stupid cough (allergy) but I'm going to check the jewellery bit first!
Sheesh, I'd change my dentist.😲

You say that, but as far as I've see you scan in and get a message saying you'll remain scanned in at that place until midnight that day, or until you scan in elsewhere.

I've looked at the link you provided a few posts up, but I can't find anything that confirms what you've said above in bold, as official.

Newsflash
Call ahead and find out.
Decide if you can, or still want, to eat there.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/09/2020 19:10

@WendyE I'm a bit limited thanks to my NHS dentist not bothering to see patients any more!

tribpot · 29/09/2020 19:12

The app does not use GPS. See help page 'Will the NHS COVID-19 app be used for location tracking'

LangClegsInSpace · 29/09/2020 20:15

FFS how difficult would it be for them to send venues some posters with a QR code for customers to check out as they leave? Confused They'd get far more accurate data.
