Matt Hancocks latest "bright" idea. Just what an elderly dementia/stroke sufferer needs to make them happy. The man's a fool.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Is Wankcock supposed to be amusing? Confused

lughnasadh · 27/09/2020 12:29

It sounds ike a good idea.

What's your issue with it?

Name calling isn't clever or funny. Did you think it was?

Char2015 · 27/09/2020 12:29

I actually think this is one of the better decisions by Government. Isn't it better to be able to see loved ones via a device then not at all? Obviously, if patients, carers and loved ones feel it's not appropriate for whatever reason then they won't use it. Just remember, during lockdown, many residents had no access to see loved ones in any form. I actually can't see how Matt is a "fool" on this one.

Jrobhatch29 · 27/09/2020 12:30

Eh? I think its a great idea

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 27/09/2020 12:30

YABU OP, his name is Wanksock

CaraDuneRedux · 27/09/2020 12:30

Well, Wankcock made me smile, but then I do like a bit of vulgar humour.

Not such a stupid idea, though, OP. Not everyone ends up in a care home because of dementia or strokes. My gran ended up in one when repeated leg ulcers/infections meant she could no longer live independently and get her shopping in/stand at the cooker to make her tea. This would have been a godsend for her.

RigaBalsam · 27/09/2020 12:30

I agree its great and hopefully will help with loneliness and mental health.

Though schoo are still waiting for the promised laptops.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/09/2020 12:31

Stupid OP, stupid name calling .

HeresMe · 27/09/2020 12:31

Name calling isn't clever or funny. Did you think it was?

Personally I'd get more offended at how incompetent the man is but that's just me.

Nellodee · 27/09/2020 12:31

Doesn't look a bad idea to me. I also liked the idea of having a single nominated family keyworker for residents in a home, who was then able to go in and assist with their care.

pontypridd · 27/09/2020 12:31

I hate the man. But an iPad transformed my totally deaf aunt’s life in a care home.

So not such a bad idea IMO

trappedsincesundaymorn · 27/09/2020 12:32

Seriously, you honestly think that 11000 ipads for 22000 care homes is a good decision? How in the world do you think giving someone with dementia a tablet is better than allowing actual contact with a family member?

OP posts:
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/09/2020 12:32

That’s not a bad idea, probably half-baked but not bad.

FedUpofBeingMyself · 27/09/2020 12:33

I think it’s a lovely idea

cologne4711 · 27/09/2020 12:33

Not a stupid idea at all, but I am still unclear why someone can't meet an elderly relative (well wrapped up against the cold weather) outside.

PuppyMonkey · 27/09/2020 12:33

I’m not sure what a mid actually is, but if all the government cock ups during this pandemic this one doesn’t seem to bad to me.Confused

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 27/09/2020 12:34

I think he's had worse ideas. Not a bad suggestion at all, dh has been face timing his elderly parents and after the initial views of mils chin and nothing else, it's gone really well.

CuppaZa · 27/09/2020 12:34

As someone who’s elderly grandparent is in a care home, I think it’s a wonderful idea.
Any excuse for some to start name calling and poo-pooing though eh Wink

Char2015 · 27/09/2020 12:35

@RigaBalsam

I agree its great and hopefully will help with loneliness and mental health.

Though schoo are still waiting for the promised laptops.

Good point. Can only be a great idea if they actually receive them. As you said, schools have been waiting months for their promised devices.
PuppyMonkey · 27/09/2020 12:35

Don’t think anyone would agree it’s better OP, but perhaps it’s better than no contact at all.

FubsyRanbler · 27/09/2020 12:35

There are thousands of elderly people in care homes that don’t have dementia. My mother being one of them.

Toilenstripes · 27/09/2020 12:35

I like the idea! It’s practical and will make a difference.

LiveFromHome · 27/09/2020 12:35

Aren't there about 23000 care homes in the UK.

So not even one iPad per home. Hmm

Yeah, well done. Great idea.

ThatDamnScientist · 27/09/2020 12:36

It's not a bad idea but wonder if they will appear unlike the school laptops for vulnerable children who had no access to tech for schooling...

Another load of lip service to look like they are doing something when in fact it won't happen...

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 27/09/2020 12:36

Well that wasn't what I was expecting when I read that he had 'finally lost his mind' - I think it's a good idea?!

I did chuckle a little bit at 'Wankcock' though - good one! Grin
