Is anyone actually still behind the Prime Minister?

I don't think he has handled the pandemic as well as he could tbh and i've noticed the tide turning on here recently very much against him. The right wing media are really getting restless with Boris as well and of course the left are sticking the knife in.

I think a lot of people cut him loads of slack because it was an unprecedented situation and then he got really ill himself (I don't think his 'shake hands with the virus' attitude was sensible either) which set the government back in their response. Then he was let down by his main advisor which has eroded confidence in his administration.

How can Boris get a hold of this and the government approach to Covid and get everyone back on side again? 9 months ago he won one of the biggest landslides ever, to huge fanfare. It's a bit of a downfall at the moment, he still has a chance to recover it.

Boris needs to unite the country again.

You were impressed with their handling of the opening of schools in your previous weren’t you OP?

I said they were prioritising opening schools and keeping them open which is a good thing.

I guess I felt that they were doing the best they could with the Information they had. Whereas now, I feel they are making informed mistakes and lying.

Rosehip10 · 21/09/2020 16:52

"Boris needs to unite the country again" - you mean England OP? Scotland is no way "united" behind Johnson.

Juniperandrage · 21/09/2020 16:54

neither is Wales

BabyLlamaZen · 21/09/2020 16:55

I don't love everything they've done but you've only got to read the mumsnet board to see whatever they do they disappoint everybody. I think if people actually listened to them and read between the lines it would be fine. As it is, people are idiots.

HMSSophie · 21/09/2020 16:57

Never was behind him, and never will be.

stovetopespresso · 21/09/2020 16:57

i think there's a large swathe of people who hardly know nor care how well he's doing, they're not involved in anything much, so long as they're ok and not much changes and they can't even be fagged to have an opinion. maybe wait until furlough ends and things bite and see what line the media feeds them.

mediumperiperi · 21/09/2020 16:59

He will deflect and put the spotlight on Brexit because he knows that there's a section of the population who believe that No Deal (Brexit at any cost) is the way forward.

Ontopofthesunset · 21/09/2020 17:00

To be fair, he won a landslide victory on a single issue populist slogan: Get Brexit Done. Unfortunately you can't bluster your way through a pandemic with a slogan.

mediumperiperi · 21/09/2020 17:01

Boris has done more to split the country than any other modern day PM. After the pandemic, we'll be looking at IndyRef 2 and if he goes ahead with breaking the Withdrawl Agreement, we'll probably see a call for change in Northern Ireland

Theworldisfullofgs · 21/09/2020 17:02

Boris Johnson is inept.

Doesn't do strategy or detail. The question is what is he actually good for?

How does anyone think that being a journalist , particularly a columnist make you qualified for anything else, let alone running a country?

He's giving it a bloody good go Grin
The80sweregreat · 21/09/2020 17:03

I've never been behind him or his party but he has been tested like no other before him in a long time. No wonder he looks defeated , not to mention ill from covid after affects. All this, poorly and another child all within six months.
He wanted this job , it goes to show 'be careful what you wish for' in life.
It's all been handled badly , but the population in general doesn't help matters with their attitudes to any regulations or rules. They always think they know best!
It's all very grim.

No, I think we can blame David Cameron more than Boris.

Think we'll have a new 3 step slogan when he does his announcement.

MoaningMurlock · 21/09/2020 17:05

He can’t.

The loss of confidence in him has already reached critical mass. It’s not coming back.

baytreetavern · 21/09/2020 17:05

I'm not, not behind him. I think anyone else would have been as bad/good.

Whitty and valance are good, and would have been good regardless of who was the PM

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 21/09/2020 17:06

Murdoch certainly wants him out, which is interesting.

frozendaisy · 21/09/2020 17:07

Not a Tory. But have always wanted the Government to get this right. Some things are more important than political point scoring.

Discuss this with the Mr regularly, he knows my politics and I have a bit of a political crush on Starmer at the moment, but he's not PM yet!

If you think about what they actually have to balance it's almost an impossible task.

Am I behind Boris? (Only because I want our response to work for as many as it can) would like to be but he makes it difficult.

Live in hope but it's the hope that kills you Hmm

Thank you for this Grin

Chloemol · 21/09/2020 17:10

Let’s be honest, whatever any Conservative Government does they will be trashed on this board
