What does everyone think the announcement will be tomorrow?

I think it’ll be:

No mixing of households across the country, not just the North
Curfews on pubs
Using public transport for necessary journeys only

Yes, I agree with you.

giletrouge · 21/09/2020 08:38

Bullet point; bullet point; bullet point.
Naughty people/good people.
World beating top of the range oven ready.
Read my lips; if they're moving, I'm lying.
Distract with hair tossing and poor Churchill impressions.

BrokenBrit · 21/09/2020 08:39

Do we know what time this will be please? I’ve heard the chief medical officer is doing an announcement today, but not heard when the PM is doing one, and don’t know the timings for either one.

eufycurious · 21/09/2020 08:41

I thought Johnson wasn't going to be there?

I think it will be a stiff telling off and a plea to follow the rules.

PostPandemic · 21/09/2020 08:42

Grin actually I'm beginning to feel sorry for him. He's screwed whatever he does.
eufycurious · 21/09/2020 08:42

I think it is 11am @BrokenBrit

CoffeeRunner · 21/09/2020 08:43

@BrokenBrit someone is speaking at 11am. I think that may be Chris Witty.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/09/2020 08:44

It's Chris Witty at 11 am today according to the BBC.

I think there's lots of disagreement within the Government and senior advisors because they know they need to lockdown again or go some way towards that (people back WFH unless they cannot do so, closing restaurants and pubs etc) but at the same time they want to get the economy moving again so conflict of interests.

PurpleDaisies · 21/09/2020 08:44

Chris Whitty and Patrick Balance today.

We get Boris some time later.

PostPandemic · 21/09/2020 08:44

A day before the numbers started shooting up. Public Health England said numbers of infections were stable. I don't believe anyone anymore.

BrokenBrit · 21/09/2020 08:45

Thanks @eufycurious and @coffeerunner. I will be at work then so will have to catch up tonight. If it’s just CW I can’t see him being able to introduce any major changes, so maybe it’s just an update.

yeOldeTrout · 21/09/2020 08:46

11am says news media.

SqidgeBum · 21/09/2020 08:46

I agree with PP. I think it will be

'dont see anyone outside your house except for work and school'
'Curfew of 10pm for pubs and restaurants'
'Dont use the bus .... but do go to work .... and make sure you buy sandwiches on the highstreet'
Lots of scary 'if YOU dont bring down the numbers people will die and we will suck what little joy you have left from your life as punishment'

Nellodee · 21/09/2020 08:47

I think this may just be London or some other place getting additional measures, with the warning that the next stage will be nation wide restrictions. A final shot across the bows, ensuring that blame, when it comes, will be put on public fecklessness rather than government ineptitude.

Don't go to the pub, but keep the High Street going, send kids to school, but don't mix with more than 6,

IntermittentParps · 21/09/2020 08:57

London is doing well compared to a lot of other places, so I'm not sure if it will be targeted.

RegularHumanBartender · 21/09/2020 08:58

Don't go to work, unless you have to go to work then go to work, but don't catch the bus, unless you have to catch the bus then you can catch the bus but wear a mask, unless you can't wear a mask then don't wear a mask.

Don't see Auntie Pat in her conservatory, but feel free to see Dave and the rest of the lads in 'spoons, but only until 10 at which point you will all obviously go back to Dave's kitchen.

This is all your fault for going to Nandos in August anyway.

Something like that I reckon.

justdontatme · 21/09/2020 09:03

I don’t think Whitty or Valance will be announcing any policy changes, I think it will just be a reminder to take it seriously etc etc. Government can’t address the public anymore with that sort of message because they have lost all trust.

Rosehip10 · 21/09/2020 09:04

All the people saying the it will be "a telling" off from CMO and CSO - do you honestly believe that would have any impact?

Sweetchillijam · 21/09/2020 09:09

This is hilarious @RegularHumanBartender but so scary and true. So many people are ignoring the rules or bending the rules to suit themselves especially since the Doninic Cummings fiasco.

‘Don't go to work, unless you have to go to work then go to work, but don't catch the bus, unless you have to catch the bus then you can catch the bus but wear a mask, unless you can't wear a mask then don't wear a mask.

I’m guessing Chris Witty will give us the facts today which will then justify whatever measures Boris brings in later this week.

I’m expecting a sort of “final warning”. Wear masks, social distance as much as possible etc or we’ll have no choice but to go back into some sort of lockdown situation.

I went into my local town centre on Saturday to get something for DSs birthday. The vast majority of shoppers (town was fairly quiet) were wearing masks & being respectful with social distancing. The one age group who noticeably were not were teens. Groups of up to 12 none of whom were wearing masks - either in shops or in the enclosed shopping centre. I’m not a teen basher - I have my own - but I do think something needs to be done about this. Not sure how. I guess with the confidence of youth they feel fine & know they are unlikely to be seriously ill with Covid. But are not thinking of the shop assistant they may cough on, the pensioner they might breathe heavily 2 inches away from etc.

@IntermittentParps

it's however the mayor of London is asking for measurements as according to his data they're 2-3 days behind those cities with lockdown
mediumperiperi · 21/09/2020 09:10

We've been told on many occasions that Valance and Whitty aren't in charge so it won't be a change in policy. They'd wheel out Johnson or Hancock for that.

PurpleDaisies · 21/09/2020 09:13

WHITTY.
