I think it’ll be:

No mixing of households across the country, not just the North
Curfews on pubs
Using public transport for necessary journeys only

OP posts:
BrieAndChilli · 21/09/2020 09:14

It will be a lot of science and facts and figures. Basically to get the scientists to overwhelm us with data that may or may not be bad, warn us of the dangers coming etc. Possibly tell us not to have tests unless dieing. Then when Boris then imposed more restrictions in a day or two we will all ‘be grateful’ that the situation is being handled!!

toolatetooearly · 21/09/2020 09:14

@RegularHumanBartender

Don't go to work, unless you have to go to work then go to work, but don't catch the bus, unless you have to catch the bus then you can catch the bus but wear a mask, unless you can't wear a mask then don't wear a mask.

Don't see Auntie Pat in her conservatory, but feel free to see Dave and the rest of the lads in 'spoons, but only until 10 at which point you will all obviously go back to Dave's kitchen.

This is all your fault for going to Nandos in August anyway.

Something like that I reckon.

Does mumsnet give awards for quality posts? If so, that should win one.

Bullet point; bullet point; bullet point. Naughty people/good people. World beating top of the range oven ready. Read my lips; if they're moving, I'm lying. Distract with hair tossing and poor Churchill impressions.

I don't know anyone using public transport for unnecessary journeys as it is. Anyway, you're paying to use it and we all know, if financial transactions are taking place you won't catch covid. That only happens if you're with people in their garden or something and not paying to be there Hmm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/09/2020 09:38

giletrouge and RegularHumanBartender thank you for that, you've made me smile which is no mean feat today.

RedskyAtnight · 21/09/2020 09:41

I think it will be actually explaining the science/reasoning i.e. they "why" so Boris can make the changes in an announcement later in the week and people can understand the reasons for them.

And Boris' announcement will definitely include a new three word slogan :)

RedskyAtnight · 21/09/2020 09:43

@PurpleDaisies

Chris Whitty and Patrick Balance today.

We get Boris some time later.

I realise that this was probably an autocorrect, but I thinking the new version of Patrick's name is very apt :)

Yes, it was a happy accident.

I’m hoping Barnum’s going to announce his resignation

I think the only bit you’ve not covered is “.....going to Nando’s in August when we lobbed some cash at them to actively encourage you go and eat there with anyone you wanted to on the cheap. Three days a week. “

London needs to be targeted purely for reasons of population density.
If you follow Trish Greenhalgh on Twitter the science has come down firmly on airborne particles that linger for a long time not just bigger droplets.

So I think announcement will be
WFH
Windows open everywhere
Week on week off for school year groups

Zilla1 · 21/09/2020 09:53

Bingo may include:
graphs comparing Italy, France, Spain with dodgy scales to illustrate whatever point they want to make.
'world class'
some new three word phrase
circuit breaker

some official still there who threw NHS colleagues under a bus.

outlier will be a resignation for health or personal reasons though machinery of government changes to PHE may be allowed to mature under unconstitutional Dido leadership.

Waffle waffle waffle, erm blah blah waffle hands face space, some rambling about the NHS, defeating the virus etc

No one will listen or do anything differently.
Those of us following the rules will continue to do so. Those who haven’t been won’t suddenly start

mumsthewurd · 21/09/2020 09:56

11am Boris voice [veering wildly between sad and sullen, and circus Boris]:

We asked the British public to "STAY ALERT" to the virus, but I went to Chessington World of Adventures in August and it was like something out of a zombie flick quite frankly.

Because of this it's all gone to POT and it's all your fault great British Public, though probably MORE the fault of Northerners (gawd bless em), and also POOR people with accents.

  1. You're not buying enough corporate sandwiches, this is having a detrimental effect on the economy (and it's RUDE quite frankly seeing as I paid £60 million for you all to have a cheap pub lunch last month)

  2. Wave bigger flags - 1m plus - they will protect you from foreigners, I.. erm... foreign... viruses

  3. Send the sprogs to school or WE WILL FINE YOU (I'm talking to YOU Barbara Collins of Manchester, a little bit of pulmonary fibrosis never hurt anyone and if you made your pickaninnies wash their hands better there'd be less of a chance of your underlying conditions messing up our statistics)

  4. TEST? lots of em! huge numbers. Look! Last night of the proms, that's the spirit, only a bit of a cough, brilliant NHS, lovely nurses, don't even need to PAY em properly they're that wonderful.

  5. Carry on. But less. But don't go changing. Freedom - wonderful stuff isn't it!

6)Stay more alert than before. Come back from the pub by 10 o'clock, everything will be splendid!

  1. Shoot more grouse. It's been proven by the science that wearing tweed PROTECTS from the virus (and also earning over £150K a year - which is why I got it, no tweed and not earning enough)

  2. Carry on Coviding.

Super.

OneForMeToo · 21/09/2020 09:57

Just that we must behave because numbers and graphs and some data. Anything Boris needs us to know so we will follow the restrictions he imposed at any random point this week.

wanderings · 21/09/2020 09:59

Is whoever speaks at 11am going to acknowledge "RISING POSITIVE RESULTS DO NOT EQUAL DEATHS", or am I being too hopeful that pigs will fly, and it will be the usual deliberate confusing of the public?

I now have a favourite mask, which says "Make Nineteen Eighty Four fiction again". We are sleepwalking and SHEEPWALKING into an oppressive regime, with the virus as the backdrop. The young up-and-coming Etonians aspiring to be the next Oliver Cromwell are taking careful note of how easily the public are being manipulated: all it takes is a little scaremongering, this will be remembered by politicians in years to come, when they think we'll have forgotten the virus. People are believing the old "people are dying" mantra simply because Saint Boris the Clown and his merry men are saying it, because they are pillars of trustworthiness.

The economy has already been smashed by the first lockdown; many business have passed the point of no return, thanks to Saint Boris's lockdown, and will never recover. Is this what the Conservative party wants, the party supposedly in favour of enterprise? People trying to make a living in business having their business destroyed by the government? Is Saint Boris going to give us more of the same? The first lockdown did not come close to eradicating the virus, despite Saint Boris's claim "we can turn this virus around in twelve weeks".

The facts, and what the clowns want us to believe, are likely to be two VERY DIFFERENT things.

@RegularHumanBartender that really made me laugh

Lemming20 · 21/09/2020 10:10

@mumsthewurd this is brilliant! Thanks for giving me a good chuckle on such a bleak morning x

86jabberwocky · 21/09/2020 10:13

More testing means more cases. We must also look at the total death rate and daily death rates and ask how many died with Covid or because of Covid? This country won't survive another lockdown and with Brexit approaching, it doesn't look promising. I've always said along, the virus doesn't scare me but people do as this could lead to looting, people breaking into your homes and civil disorder from losing their jobs, homes and having no food. They have to tread very carefully.

kirinm · 21/09/2020 10:20

@IntermittentParps

London is doing well compared to a lot of other places, so I'm not sure if it will be targeted.
I've seen a lot of mention of London lockdown but it is only a few boroughs that seem to be seeing an increase. Not sure how they could do local lockdowns per borough.

Fortunately (?) my borough and the one we border was badly hit during the first lockdown but doing okay at the moment (ish).

kirinm · 21/09/2020 10:24

@mediumperiperi

We've been told on many occasions that Valance and Whitty aren't in charge so it won't be a change in policy. They'd wheel out Johnson or Hancock for that.
Hancock is apparently giving a statement later today in the HoC.
