What does everyone think the announcement will be tomorrow?

I think it’ll be:

No mixing of households across the country, not just the North
Curfews on pubs
Using public transport for necessary journeys only

Whitty*

BatShite · 21/09/2020 11:11

Stay in, but go out and spend, but gont go outside and stay in your house and dont see anyone unless you want to shop, then its fine. No doubt.

middleager · 21/09/2020 11:15

And keep working in offices for presenteeism

Hingeandbracket · 21/09/2020 11:15

"We haven't got any Covid tests, but if you all drive to Barnard Castle you can use that as a test of your eyesight"

middleager · 21/09/2020 11:17

Hands, space, face.

But no decent test or trace

Sweetchillijam · 21/09/2020 11:18

I don’t know this is being broadcast @ 11am surely more people would see it on an evening.

Jaxhog · 21/09/2020 11:19

I think it will be a stiff telling off and a plea to follow the rules.

This is what I would be saying!

Frazzled13 · 21/09/2020 11:22

Does anyone else think that was a bit of a waste of time..? I don't feel like they said anything we didn't already know?

Jux · 21/09/2020 11:23

sweetchillijam it'll be repeated all day. It's just finished and a bleak picture it was too.

I wonder if this is a 'warning' and we will get restrictions at some point soon as a result of the warning.
KitKatastrophe · 21/09/2020 11:24

They definitely set the stage for limiting household mixing. Valance said something about reducing social contacts and how there always have to be downsides. Preparing us for a "no mixing of households" message perhaps?

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 21/09/2020 11:24

This is a set up to oil us up ready for an announcement later.

Jux · 21/09/2020 11:26

Frazzled I think it was mainly an exercise in trying to get people to understand the severity of it, and therefore start thinking about paying attention to the guidelines. All those people who have been saying that they won't do another lockdown, that they won't wear a mask etc etc etc. Those people may have got a slightly better idea of how serious it is.

Yep.

Exactly what I am thinking! I think BJ will make an announcement/ bumble speech tomorrow .
mummyof4kids · 21/09/2020 11:29

I definitely think there'll be a ban on households mixing, pub curfews maybe although I don't see the point in them
Closing at 10pm

wanderings · 21/09/2020 11:29

As I predicted: not a word about the disparity between rising "cases" and rising deaths. Those scientists are saying what Saint Boris and his cronies have TOLD them to say, just like the WHO was TOLD to say "masks are good". "50,000 cases a day by mid-October": what a nice round figure, all those noughts on the end, what a coincidence. Are the magic muzzles not working after all then, if cases are rising so quickly? Probably rounded to one significant figure from 45,000.

The fucking agenda is clear.

Hotmilkandhoney · 21/09/2020 11:30

Definitely preparing us for the next wave of measures.

Giving a scientific face to the situation (as no one trusts the government anymore, not that they ever should have - it's Boris Johnson ffs). Hmm

BarbaraofSeville · 21/09/2020 11:34

There's always a lag between cases and deaths as it takes a few weeks for deaths following infection.

Re: masks. A significant minority (around a third from my limited observations) are not wearing them at all in shops and a good proportion of those who do are not covering their mouth and/or nose when they do. Plus close contact at home with family and friends, where people won't be using them or keeping even 1 metre apart. So the times when the general public are actually wearing masks in an effective way will only be a minority of the time.

MadameBlobby · 21/09/2020 11:34

I don’t think it was that bleak. Even if we don’t make any more changes we will still have half the cases we did in March before lockdown. Obviously that doesn’t mean we can continue as we are as we don’t want to get it to that point but hopefully it means that if we get some measures in place we can get it down enough without the need for a full lockdown again.

Bayleaf25 · 21/09/2020 11:35

Do we know if/when Boris will be making an announcement? I’m not clear.

Do enlighten us as to what the agenda is, because it's really not that clear to me.

FFS. Did you not listen? More younger people infected = less death. More people infected will result in more deaths but there is a lead in time. We can expect to see an increase in weeks.

Helenj1977 · 21/09/2020 11:41

I don't think they'll do anything major soon. The rule of 6 only came in last week.

When hospital admissions go dangerously up they'll take action. The Nightingales are all moth balled ready to go so they're expecting it.

He needs to keep the economy and schools going. We're only in September, we can't lockdown until March /April.

Maybe they'll re shield the vunerable and over 70s or 65s first??

Bouncycastle12 · 21/09/2020 11:43

This is insane. Do they really think the "rules breakers" are going to sit down and listen to Whitty and Valance? This is just preaching to the sodding choir. Get out there and enforce the current rules and let the rest of us get on with our (wildly contrained) lives. Lots of us are following the rules. Many people are not. Bringing in more rules will just shaft the rule followers even more and almost certainly have absolutely no effect on everyone else. Just enforce the current ridiculously restrictive rules!
