What is with Mumsnet and pubs and restaurants.

What is it with Mumsnet and pubs and restaurants , they are responsible for everything to some small mindset but they do hate them

They have been open for a couple of months but apparently to some posters they are the spread.

I'm guessing the posters don't use such places and want the staff to lose just b's ect I'm not sure.

Snobbery, pure and simple and virtue signalling.

I think most of the posters on MN are those that are at that stage of life where they are just very homely and enjoy staying in most of the time.

You only have to look at some of the posters who seem to thrive in lockdown and in a permanent state of working from home. It wouldn't surprise me if many posters are hoping for another lockdown because it is how their life would be led in an ideal world.

That's. It they have been open over 2 months but its their fault.

Ive spent a afternoon alone socially distanced in a pub no one around me at all but let's blame them.

I completely agree with you op. I've eaten in restaurants multiple times over the past couple of months and the set ups have all been fantastic. I actually feel safer in them than I do going to the supermarket. Most of the ones I've been in, you stay at your table and order through your phone. I don't believe they have been the blame for the increase.

Pubs and restaurants are the target now, at the start it was anyone who dared leave their home (remember the posts outraged that people were buying non essentials with their supermarket shop? or the neighbours who spent too long in their gardens or left the house too much/for too long or many other made up rules.

Obviously if a pub/restaurant isn't doing SD then it's a potential for spread, but some posters are taking it to unhealthy extremes. It's easier to scream murderer at anyone trying to live and blame the government for not being able to keep everyone at home, paid, healthy and safe than apply common sense.

All the pubs/restaurants I've been in, it was easy enough to distance. A huge % outside, groups seated 2m apart, staff wearing shields, hand sanitiser everywhere, one way systems, toilets only one at a time, etc.

I get the impression the rise in cases is mostly due to families reuniniting in private homes. Not in big numbers, just 4-10. Sure the young have had parties or the old refuse to wear face covers... but the single largest behaviour is family gatherings (I reckon).

I don’t know that it’s pubs and restaurants per se that they’re outraged about, I think there’s a very political contingent who want the EOTHO scheme to cause a spike so it’s one more government failure.

Ans actually all if the responsible pubs and restaurants i have been to have been easy to socially distance from others with lots of measures in place
There are a few not very responsible
But i thought they believed higher figures were due to spreading more in private settings ?? Although you never see figures to actually show where spread is from

Pubs and restaurants have indeed been open for a while. What is new is people travelling back and not quarantining.

The absolute best one at the start which I will remember forever, is the poster who said that people shouldn't have BBQs in their own back gardens because it was disrespectful and people should be conducting themselves with 'solemnity'.

But yes, I remember the 'don't sit on a bench, don't open gates on a walk, don't buy Easter eggs in your shop, don't go for a 61 minute walk' etc. To be honest, the batshitttery is one of the reasons I love MN so much!

I’ve been to numerous pubs and restaurants, and never found social distancing to be a problem.... but then I haven’t been in a town centre drinking pub at 11pm, but rather country pubs at 2pm which are somewhat different...

I was going to post the same link, we do know that socialising indoors causes transmission.

I don't hate pubs, I bloody love them, but covid does spread indoors and alcohol doesn't help distancing.

And it wasn’t just Easter eggs that were off limits, even getting milk was deemed non-essential as you could survive without it

Because going to pubs and restaurants is almost completely unnecessary during a pandemic, and I don't see why it's so difficult for people to just eat and drink at home, and to stick to small, important doses of socialising (like close family) for a while. It's a luxury that we should be able to go without for a few months or even a year: in the grand scheme of things is it really such a huge sacrifice for people to just put a pause on certain types of leisure activities for a while?

I think there's a difference between sitting in a small group around a table and standing in a packed bar.
However I teach and I was pretty much packed into various different classrooms with 30 students all day/week. So a restaurant seems safer to me.

@CornwallCucumber its not a luxury to the people who work there or own them to be able to open and put food on their tables
Or the taxes they pay so the goverment can pay furlough , fund the nhs etc

@CornwallCucumber it isn't necessary but then neither is a hair cut and lots of other things. I enjoy eating out, i have met the odd friend and family member at a restaurant over the last few months and it has been lovely. I do it because a) i enjoy it. B) regulations are in place to make it safe and c) it helps keep these places running. Without people using them, many would never reopen. Redundancies are at an all time high at the moment and I'd prefer to do what I consider a low risk activity which will help people stay in jobs.

Food and restaurant stuff isn't insignificant.

@ohthegoats you can't just use one weeks worth of figured though you would have to compare a few as could be one large outbreak at a place be it a school , restaurant etc

I’m Spanish pubs have been opened there since may. Most of the outbreaks have been in private parties : bdays / parties / bbq and so in private houses. There have been some in restaurants but mainly get togethers
