Hoping everyone remembers at the ballot box

I really hope we all remember the shit show this bunch have made.

They give zero fucks for us and our loved ones.

NHS workers have been treated with contempt.

Teachers now seem to be new potential cannon fodder along with family members of young people.

Let's hope we all remember. Never voted Tory in my life btw and certainly won't now.

OP posts:
wetandmiserable · 31/07/2020 22:31

It staggers me that their polling has held at around 40% throughout this. Anyone who votes Tory after this is utterly stupid or utterly callous.

RunningFromInsanity · 31/07/2020 22:37

Well I’m not stupid so I must be callous then.

I don’t think Labour would have done anything better.
I don’t think Tories have handled the pandemic as badly as MN makes out.
Teachers act like they are heroes for doing their damn jobs.

3 posts in and this thread has proven that you cannot discuss politics on MN 👍🏻

Uhoh2020 · 31/07/2020 22:42

I've always voted Labour (,probably always will) can't see how Corbyn would have done any better though

Shmithecat2 · 31/07/2020 22:42

Is @RunningFromInsanity not allowed an opinion then, unless its the same as yours @Armi?

Sennetti · 31/07/2020 22:44

@Armi there are other opinions to yours you know!!

ineedaholidaynow · 31/07/2020 22:45

What would Labour have done differently?

KingFredsTache · 31/07/2020 22:46

What's the alternative though, really? I say that as someone who has never voted Tory in my life, but realistically, there is no opposition!

Shmithecat2 · 31/07/2020 22:48

Ok, so what would any other party have done differently?

GetRid · 31/07/2020 22:48

Yes they've been pretty bad but so have loads of other governments. I bet Boris would win an election hands down if there was one tomorrow.

Merename · 31/07/2020 22:50

Corbyn would have had compassion for people and not contempt, that translates into policy, look at the difference between NS approach and Boris.

I also am astounded at the polls.

byvirtue · 31/07/2020 22:50

The opposition have been notably quiet through all this.

It’s a god awful mess that nobody would want to touch politically speaking. I don’t think the tories have done a good job, but I doubt I’d have been impressed with the oppositions response either. It’s impossible to get this right it’s walking a tight rope between the health of the population and crashing the economy. You can’t win.

LemonTT · 31/07/2020 22:51

@Armi

Oh, piss off, *@RunningFromInsanity*

Your post shows us that you are, in fact, stupid AND callous.

I do love the approach to winning hearts and minds of the people you need to get rid of the government you hate.

Tell them you hate them. Then make sure you never spend any time in their company or have anything to do with them.

Celebrate another glorious 5 years in opposition.

labyrinthloafer · 31/07/2020 22:53

@Uhoh2020

I think Blair, brown or starmer would all have done much much better.

And Thatcher, major, may.

Johnson's government has been terrible.

puzzledpiece · 31/07/2020 22:53

It doesn't matter what they did or didn't do. Political bias will win out

labyrinthloafer · 31/07/2020 22:54

@Shmithecat2

Ok, so what would any other party have done differently?
They might have listened to sage and locked down a week earlier, reducing the death toll by 20,000?
FAQs · 31/07/2020 22:56

It’s been very difficult but no government has ever dealt with pandemic like this in the UK so it’s speculation how other parties may have handled it. The business grants, rates relief and and Furlough scheme has saved 1000s of jobs in the 250 businesses I assist, but we are expecting the situation to get worse with redundancies post October.

The bonus scheme for retaining employees until Jan I don’t think we assist an awful lot but how long can they continue with all the funding. They’ll recoup some money from the bounceback interest, if businesses survive to pay back the loans but we have got difficult economic times ahead.

KingFredsTache · 31/07/2020 22:56

Corbyn couldn't get his own party in order, had absolutely no idea about the needs and feelings of the electorate (he thought declaring his pronouns would get him votes FFS!), and wouldn't have had a clue how to deal with the economic side of this.

Plus they aren't interested in anyone over the age of 25!

bumblingbovine49 · 31/07/2020 22:58

Aye come on. What would Labour have done?
Noone LP knows what they would have done they just have an opinion but if you insist on an answer I'll bite.
I believe they would have closed things down far more quickly and earlier as they would have been less scared of upsetting the status quo.

I also however think they would have got.more flack for ' ruining the economy' and imagine they would have been accused of being 'communists' if they had come up with anything like the furlough scheme.

So that is my opinion and you can have a different opinion. Since labour didn't get the chance to deal with it, we will never know who is right so even talking about ' what labour would have done' is pointless

duffeldaisy · 31/07/2020 22:58

It would have been hard for any party in control, but Labour would have cared. And I bet they would have done a fairer support, like a national emergency wage for everyone, rather than giving varying amounts of furlough income to some people, but nothing extra to key workers/workers from home. And they wouldn’t have left all the self-employed who are ineligible for the SEISS scheme without an income at all for 3 months. I’d hope, as a minimum.

toohotz · 31/07/2020 23:01

What would Labour have done differently?

Yes I would like to know that too?
