Track and Trace

So once T&T is up and running and you get a notification that you have been in close contact with someone with CV19. You could be bleeped all the time especially if you are meeting your family which I believe is one of the highest risks and one of them has it Passing someone within 2 metres in a supermarket has little risk.

If for example its the winter and you are due to go on holiday, get married, go to a funeral etc and you are told to isolate then why would some people even get the app if they thought they would be stopped from doing something pre booked/arranged.

I see the younger people even less likely to have the track and trace because even if they had it they are likely to have symptons.

Or do we think its likely that its only with severe cases with a huge viral load given to you that will result in you being asked to self isolate.

I work at home most of the time anyway so this wouldnt be a big issue for me (unless I was about to go on holiday - I suspect your travel insurance would not cover you for this scenario) but for others I can envisage huge concerns going forward.

As we're on an empty ward we're not given PPE so there's a good chance. They've only just implemented a system where 'green' wards must wear masks.

Would the app just show that Bob and Alice were in the same room? Could Bob say he was in the kitchen the whole time and never went near Alice?

The app would show Bob and Alice were within 2m of each other for 15 minutes plus presumably. Bob might have some explaining to do...

People can just leave their phones at home.
It’s not obligatory to have one on you at all times.
There is no way I’m uploading any govt app after the dodgy way they used govt data for their Brexit and Election campaigns.
There is no way I’m using an app that Cummings has anything to do with.
I have family abroad and may go and stay with them over the summer If it’s allowed and I will get tested and go into quarantine on either end.

Also, how far does it go?
Mark works with Becky and tests positive.
Does only Becky have to isolate? Becky and her household? Becky, her household, and everyone they've had contact with?

What about Mark's household, and everyone they've had contact with?

But if Bob and Alice really don't want anyone to know they've been close then a) they lie and b) they don't download the app.

There's not a lot the government can do about people who don't download the app or who don't have smart phones.

Except Bob refused to download the app along with millions of others

but isnt this the reason that the 'good' countries were able to get on top of the situation, shouldnt we be more positive?
Or do we just think there's no hope for the uk to do well and get things right:(

A ward environment usually has surgical masks but all the offices and staff rooms don't. I was just thinking the same - we could wipe out a whole team - however positive cases in our offices a few weeks ago didn't even raise an eyebrow so this will be quite a shift.

StealthNinjaMum · 27/05/2020 18:19

Isn't the point that people who came into contact with someone who tests positive will then be able to get a test and quick results so that they don't have to quarantine for too long if it's negative?

Apologies if I've misunderstood.

I'm sorry, but I'm not downloading an app that DC family produced.
It's not my job to do the government's job for them.
If they wanted us to take the rules seriously the gov shouldn't support DC breaking them.

There were plenty of other things that Good countries did like demanding quarantine of arrivals from
Abroad immediately, wearing of masks in public etc.
Effective testing and temperature controls etc.

If I thought that this govt had a hope in hell of managing anything with competence I would go along with It but they have totally lost my trust.

Their biggest asset they had was Public trust and compliance and they have treated it with contempt.

I can’t see this shambolic scheme being effective In the current circumstances.
I’m planning to go away anyway.

Its not based on the app (yet).

If someone tests positive they will be contacted by a tracer, and if they trace you as a contact who has been in significant contact with them (15 mins, no PPE) then you isolate for 14 days. If you have symptoms you then get a test etc.

The app will be brought in later when its ready.

@B1rdbra1n I agree.

Although none of this is good and there are huge issues of privacy and trust, some form of track and trace is the only way we can release lock down without a huge increase in infection.

I'm not happy about the government having my data but I'd prefer that they tell me I've been in contact with the virus rather than wait for me to find out when it's too late and I've passed it on to vulnerable people.

So at work I frequently come into less than 2m contact throughout the day. It’s not for 15mins at a time but would possibly mean 15mins a day at least so what happens then?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/05/2020 18:25

How do they get contact details? Only about 10 people know my phone number. It's not registered to my name.

JudyCoolibar · 27/05/2020 18:25

I have to say the prospects of putting my personal details within the control of a company run by Cummings' mates are somewhere around zero.

So say I'm about to go a (UK) holiday and I get called to say I've been in contact with someone who tested positive, and that I must self isolate for 14 days. Do I do what Dominic Cummings did and drive to my holiday destination to self isolate there?

Report
Ulver · 27/05/2020 18:28

This sounds like an incentive for people to avoid getting a test in the first place?
Why would someone get tested if they thought that they would be forcibly quarantined?
Up until now it has been Govt advice and guidance but I’m not sure how people are going to take Forced quarantine? Specially with lockdown being loosened and the public mood at the moment?

Report
Lougle · 27/05/2020 18:29

Yes, what happens if you've cumulatively spent 15 minutes next to them, do you isolate? Conversely, if you spent 14 minutes next to someone 5 times, will the app pick up that you've actually spent over an hour next to them over the course of the day?

Report
BamboozledandBefuddled · 27/05/2020 18:30

So leaving the app out of it, the system only works if someone who has symptoms requests a test, which comes up positive and then contacts are notified. Is that right? I'm getting confused now.

There is no way on God's green earth that we will have the infrastructure in place to police this.

It will be the perfect excuse for those lead swingers who like to avoid work as much as possible.

"Sorry boss. Can't come in for next couple of days. Contact tracers have been in touch and I've been in contact with someone with Covid 19. Not my fault boss that this is the 8th time this has happened"!🙄

Indeed, I have zero confidence in the government at the moment, and so there is no chance we will be using this app until the govt has done much more to regain my trust. I also don't trust with anything to do with Dominic Cummings either... I haven't forgotten the Cambridge Analytica affair.

But in the interests of fairness though, the internet rumours that the person who runs the company involved Ibrox? Alice Cummings is not Dominic's sister. That's just someone adding two and two and making five.

I'm really confused now.
Hancock just said if you've been traced as being in contact with someone who tests positive, you must isolate but that others in your household don't need to? Despite him saying some may never have symptoms. So you may have been passed the virus, no symptoms, isolating in your home - someone in your home got the virus from you, no symptoms (at least not for a week or whatever) & they're going about spreading it? Confused
