Track and Trace

So once T&T is up and running and you get a notification that you have been in close contact with someone with CV19. You could be bleeped all the time especially if you are meeting your family which I believe is one of the highest risks and one of them has it Passing someone within 2 metres in a supermarket has little risk.

If for example its the winter and you are due to go on holiday, get married, go to a funeral etc and you are told to isolate then why would some people even get the app if they thought they would be stopped from doing something pre booked/arranged.

I see the younger people even less likely to have the track and trace because even if they had it they are likely to have symptons.

Or do we think its likely that its only with severe cases with a huge viral load given to you that will result in you being asked to self isolate.

I work at home most of the time anyway so this wouldnt be a big issue for me (unless I was about to go on holiday - I suspect your travel insurance would not cover you for this scenario) but for others I can envisage huge concerns going forward.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense does it, Shit?

If I went out, and was contacted, I don't know why I have to stay at home but my husband and children can continue going out as much as they like, and then coming home and sitting on the sofa with me every evening??

I'm really confused now

I'm losing the will to live - and I didn't have much of that left in the first place! Is it cynical of me to think that they're deliberately making it sound confusing, so that people overlook the minor details like 'may become mandatory' and 'fines for non-complance'?

I'm not downloading it. The company have links with DC and a terrible track record. They have already accidentally shared the private email addresses of the trackers

Thousands of questions, lots of confusion, much inconvenience blah blah blah.

The fact remains that this is our greatest hope of beating this virus. You may not like the government, Cummings may be making your blood boil etc. You've every right to feel this way but the right thing to do is to take part in this.

The greatest risk is people refusing to cooperate. The system won't be perfect but it will be good enough to reduce transmission.

Don't be difficult people please take a deep breath and do the right thing.

What if you don’t have your phone with you all the time? Or leave it in the car? At work for example our phones are shut away in a room together, so it will seem like we are all together when in reality we work in different rooms?

Thinking about it... One of the people who know my number is the Doctors surgery... It's easy to think of people you know, and forget your official contacts!

I'm not easily confused! Todays briefing has left me baffled.
It makes no sense at all & doesn't fill me with hope that I could be sitting on a bus / train with someone who's wife/husband/butler has been told to isolate due to being in close contact with someone who has tested positive but the person near me can go on as 'normal'.

It seems like a lot of us are going to be under these localised lockdowns they were talking about due to the fact that no one has looked at the bigger picture

The app is still in the testing phase. It's the online/phone service that rolls out tomorrow.

Who would get on a bus or train? If they can avoid it? I wouldn't. But then I wouldn't download the app either.

You may not like the government

Nothing to do with liking them. I don't trust them. Big difference.

The App is only a small part that will come in to help contact you if you sit on a bus with someone.

For now it will be your friend/ relative/ work colleague that will give the tracer your phone number/ address.

But like some have said those people would likely tell you anyway.

They can't fine you for non-compliance if they can't catch you.

Well I don't drive & I live quite a distance away from the city centre - not walkable. My child has to get a mini bus to school.
So yes, at some point I suspect we may have to get a bus or a train somewhere at some point in the future.

It says self isolate for 14 days ( if your traced as a contact) even if no symptoms. only get a test if you have symptoms, will people not just say they have a symptom however minor just to get the test and finish the 14 days early?

if we get on board and co-operate then we have grounds to insist that the govt use this system straight away in the event of another pandemic
(I speak as someone who defaults to being anti surveillance and mistrustful of those in power)

I don't trust the government either. But I do believe that this system is our best hope, I've nothing to hide, and nothing that I have to loose is worth not taking part.

I think some people are enjoying having the power not to take part in track and trace. As if you're somehow getting your own back on the government.

I see this as petulant and selfish because you'll be hurting the general population far more than politicians.

This is our best hope. Take a deep breath, vent your anger in a different way and take part.

Peoplepleaser totally agree we can all ignore the track and trace or the app then sit and complain when the R rate goes up again and we are in lockdown again Or worse still somebody dies

No, I'm sure it stated you finish the 14 days even if the test is negative unless I misunderstood that bit!

I want to know if the government is going to pay everyone who has to take 14 days off work. Not just SSP. Not just those who qualify for furlough.

What about healthcare professionals who are constantly coming to contact in a hospital? I scan 15-20 different patients a day. Each scan is between twenty minutes and half and hour. I am not isolating every time one of those is diagnosed! I’d never leave the house!!!

So, I'm in NZ and we've been using test and trace since the start.

If you come into close contact with someone who tests positive for CV19, you are required to self-isolate for 14 days (one incubation cycle). This means you separate yourself from the members of your household as well, as much as is feasible. If you're completely unable to isolate from your family members, they should probably quarantine with you, though technically not required to unless you test positive yourself.

Close contact is generally defined as within 2m for 15 minutes or longer though there is typically a bit of common sense applied. So if you walk past someone in the park, or sit a few tables away from them in a restaurant or spend a couple of minutes chatting to your neighbour over the fence, you're not a close contact.

If you sit next to someone on the bus for your 40-minute commute or serve a table in a restaurant for a two-hour meal or have an hour-long meeting in a small room (even if you sat at the opposite end of the table) you are a close contact.

Yes, it's pretty inconvenient to have to work from home for two weeks, or take two weeks off work (government support to employers is a critical aspect to allow them to support workers to take paid time off) but as the government body instructing people to self-isolate has a record of who is meant to be isolating (here, you will be contacted every day to check on your health status while isolating) Bob can't just tell his boss that he's unfortunately isolating for the fourth time.

There is obviously a certain degree of trust involved (though spot-checks are done on people meant to be isolating, or some countries use phone GPS tracking) but here at least the vast majority of people have proven not to be assholes ready to exploit the system at first chance, but instead quite keen to do the right thing by their fellow citizens.
