If there is another spike ? I’m happy to go back to work but also scared and I can’t really explain why. I’m young and healthy so not really at risk...just a bit scared to leave my bubble

I mean the dance bit is where we are I suppose...

OneandTwenty · 17/05/2020 15:12

No. And if they do I won't be complying.

then you stupidly end up paying fines accordingly, well done.

You say that your doctor friends are preparing for a second peak in July, then you tantalising leave three little dots.

What specialty do they work in, out of interest?

DH is an ITU consultant and is already on the ‘lighter’ of two emergency rotas. Large teaching hospital in a major city.

They are planning to be mainly back to normal in July.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:13

No one out here to fine, Ocean. Good ol' Tories cut the police force. Job well done! Amazed at how many really want the sky to fall in. It won't.

you are completely deluded if you think that light restrictions now mean there won't be any strict lockdown later.
People naively thinking they can ignore everything and those more realistic about the risk.. that's the difference.

Just look at other countries even in Europe, they manage to enforce a strict lockdown. You are very wrong if you think it cant' happen here because your local police station is currently closed.

It's amazing if you think that current lifting of restrictions abroad means it's over. Some countries have push them again, Lebanon or Germany. Nowhere does it say we are coming back from the pandemic. You have no idea what will happen in the next few months.

Willyoujustbequiet · 17/05/2020 15:20

Beyond doubt given the epic fail so far

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:23

Go ahead and keep telling yourself that. I'll do me and you do me. No one gives a toss out here, people are just carrying on as they see fit, using their common sense. I don't think it's over. It's going nowhere, we'll have to live with it, not permanently shut down everything and live like moles, well, you can if you like. You have no idea what can happen in a few months, either. No one does. So make your own plans about how you might want to live and I'll make mine. Maybe I'll get hit by a bus. Maybe the plane I'm on will crash. Tomorrow is promised to no one but if and when it comes to me I have no plans living it in someone's wet dream of a dystopian novel.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/05/2020 15:24

I'm in a US 'locked down' state. It's been made pretty clear nationally (other than by our "Idiot-in-Chief") that there is a great likelihood of a surge in infection rates this Autumn if reopenings aren't handled slowly and judiciously and if people don't cooperate with social distancing and reasonable restrictions on gatherings. It all depends on us, doesn't it?

My state is just beginning 'Phase 2' of reopening on a county by county basis. And our Governor has made it very clear that if infection rates start soaring we will go back to 'Phase 1' (lockdown) and start all over again. I don't have a problem with that, at all.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/05/2020 15:25

It could depend on the area you live in- I saw that they are going to maybe lock down areas where it flares up again..

"In what is being dubbed a “whack-a-mole” strategy in Whitehall, Johnson’s team will announce plans to “very gradually” ease the lockdown across the whole country and then “hit hard” any Covid-19 hotspots that erupt after that, imposing even tougher lockdown rules on individual care homes, prisons or whole towns."

@highmarkingsnowmobile

Ah, the smokers fallacy.

megletthesecond · 17/05/2020 15:27

Yes. When there's a perfect storm of usual winter illness plus a new coronavirus spike they'll lock down.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:28

I don't smoke. I used to. But hey, carry on hanging onto lockdown, doom mongering and praying for Armageddon. Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2020 15:29

No I don’t think we’d enter the same situation with financial support as it is now.

lljkk · 17/05/2020 15:31

I think it's important to drive places & have some fun (outdoor exercise) while we can drive & exercise outdoors. It could be taken away from us in a snap & most people would be wildly supportive.

OneandTwenty · 17/05/2020 15:32

No one gives a toss out here, people are just carrying on as they see fit, using their common sense.

of course they are Smile

OneandTwenty · 17/05/2020 15:35

But hey, carry on hanging onto lockdown, doom mongering and praying for Armageddon

completely stupid comment. You completely missed the point here haven't you?
most of us are actually happy about the lack of real lockdown, and have made the most of the situation for the last few weeks. My kids would go crazy if they couldn't go out for a few hours a day - which we have mainly done, because we COULD and we followed the guidelines

You pretending that a real lockdown is impossible and wouldn't apply to you is laughable. Who knows, maybe you did manage to convince yourself Grin

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:35

Oh, so now I'm a liar Smile. How cute, passive aggression. You don't know where I am. Smile But if you think someone's trolling or lying you report to HQ, because troll hunting is against Talk Guidelines Smile.

Angelil · 17/05/2020 15:36

Unnecessary fear and hysteria is not the way to solve this. Social media is fuelling it as well.
We all have a duty to not pass our paranoia on to our children (NB this differs from passing on basic hygiene rules and encouraging them to use their brains). They will have to live with this for longer than we will and we need them to feel secure, relaxed and happy, not paranoid and hysterical. I actually genuinely fear for the long-term effects on children if the adults don't get their act together.

ssd · 17/05/2020 15:38

I think it's probable.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:38

Yes, very laughable. I'm sure Police Scotland will definitely be out in huge numbers enforcing Wuhan-style lockdown in Benbecula (btw, that's not where I am) Grin. It's actually stupid to think that would ever be so. Grin.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 17/05/2020 15:38

People are not quite carrying on as they see fit because life is restricted as we have known it. Unless they led very small lives beforehand where they didn’t go into work, didn’t travel much, didnt visit the dentist or go, didn’t go to pubs/restaurants/cinemas/gym

Yes it will be a few steps forward and maybe a step back for some time yet.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:40

Oh, no, Angelil, you're on the wrong thread for that! Never mind, we will all be dead by Christmas. You probably killed 5 grannies just be writing that post, how dare you bring up anything sensible. Grin

doubleshotespresso · 17/05/2020 15:40

Yes sadly I think it highly likely. All depends on how well I guess we manage the current situation and largely on the logistics currently surrounding public transport for those with no choice but to use it Confused

Lynda07 · 17/05/2020 15:44

I think it's possible but more likely we won't be told all the facts because the economy will suffer; anyone who leaks information will be branded a scaremonger or conspiracy theorist. It will only be when half the people in our road have caught the virus and some died that we'll realise we've been fed misinformation.

However I will be more than happy to be proved wrong.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/05/2020 15:48

Did anyone read the stuff about the hammer and the dance or the option of certain areas locking down?
