If there is another spike ? I’m happy to go back to work but also scared and I can’t really explain why. I’m young and healthy so not really at risk...just a bit scared to leave my bubble

Yes frontline worker friend has been told to try and ‘decompress’ and prepare for the second spike in July. Initially they were thinking October.

@HesterShaw1 it’s just a chat about what people think ! It’s interesting to hear how other people think !

He thinks it could burn out naturally 😳

all of the predictions are really just guesses, no one knows how this is going to pan out

@Blennyfish

What a nice little attack on the unemployed

"suits this type of person!!"

Anyone who thinks depriving social creatures of social situations, social contact and physical touch for long periods of time isn't going to have an effect on that creature, is understimating the effect.

You have to buy gerbils in pairs for goodness sake for their wellbeing, but somehow keeping a global population of social animals apart long term is acceptable and they are just "weak" and "moany" if it has a negative effect. 🤔

Myfriendanxiety · 17/05/2020 14:36

We are still in lockdown aren’t we?

My work is closed
I can’t shop anywhere other than supermarkets for essentials
I can’t visit any tourist attractions
I can’t see family or friends.

Still seems like lockdown to me. Nothing at all has changed for many people.

OneandTwenty · 17/05/2020 14:38

but that's the point, we have thankfully not been on lockdown as such.

And whilst many posters laugh at the "snowflakes" and "kill joy", some of us are genuinely concerned we could still go on a strict lockdown and/or lose the entire summer holidays.

Keeping kids at home (and adults) during the school year and wfh is just about manageable because there was so hope to see it end. If the entire summer 2020 is gone and cancelled, it won't be so easy.

Even before the lift in restriction, we could still be outside once for an unlimited amount, (even if some invented some weird 1 hour rule out of nowhere), we could still chat with neighbours and local friends and haven't been in isolation.

Unlike some people, that's as bas as I hope things get, I really hope it won't get worst .

CoachBombay · 17/05/2020 14:42

OneandTwenty I understand your concerns.

Here in Wales having read their guidance even if we get to green, they will not allow families to mix or non residents partners.

No social interaction without social distancing! The Green will remain till and effective treatment or vaccine/eradication. It's going to take its toll here massively.

Many of us here have lost hope of ever having a normal life again. Rule breaking is now becoming the norm, because many of us can't face a unknown amount of time living in those anti-social conditions 🤷🏻‍♀️

OneandTwenty · 17/05/2020 14:45

I can’t visit any tourist attractions
I can’t see family or friends.

I haven't stopped working and no-one I know has.
I can buy anything online, buy non-contact for all the local shops, and many shops have completely reopened here.
I have to stick to walking and driving to visit things, and watch tv instead of going to the movies.
I have never stopped being able to see local friends at distance

So yes, it's pretty shit and I don't want to dwell on the holidays we have already cancelled and the travel I can't do. But it's not remotely the house arrest people claims it is, and I really don't want it to become stricter and lose out on my summer.

Like most people, I have cancelled all my annual leave so far and really hope to be able to take them in the summer!

Forgone90 · 17/05/2020 14:45

Not in the slightest, but this has cost the country far too much money.. when you look at the BOE predictions for the economy and the government's they don't even mention the possibility of a second lockdown as they know they could not afford it....

TabbyMumz · 17/05/2020 14:45

"Here in Wales having read their guidance even if we get to green, they will not allow families to mix or non residents partners."

They are already mixing.

0DimSumMum0 · 17/05/2020 14:46

Personally I think if the government don't get on top of the numbers soon you will be in and out of lockdown all year and possibly next too Sad

OneandTwenty · 17/05/2020 14:46

*complete bold fail, sorry, it makes my post unclear

CoachBombay · 17/05/2020 14:49

TabbyMumz yes, yes they are. I'll honestly include myself in the rule breaking camp. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Forgone90 · 17/05/2020 14:52

@TabbyMumz.... she is a nurse so probably bringing COVID home.... Wow where do you get that idea... I live in a North somerset that has seen 230 cases sinse January I can assure you not every nurse is bring this thing home!

SpokeTooSoon · 17/05/2020 14:58

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05/17/no-one-immune-economic-storm-come1/

Interesting article in the Telegraph today. Yougov survey very telling. Why do people feel so calm about extending lockdown? They feel it has enhanced their lives. They don’t feel connected to “the economy” and won’t until they can’t afford to pay for things.

It is suicidal. The most extraordinary overreaction in our history in my opinion. We haven’t carried this much debt since 1945.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2020 15:01

why wouldn't hear about the Chinese population for a start? They don't count?

Don't be ridiculous. That's not what I meant and you know it.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 15:01

No. And if they do I won't be complying.

TabbyMumz · 17/05/2020 15:02

Wow. So you dont think that's in the realms of possibility? Why do you think a lot of nurses are living in hotels or apartments and not going home? Do you think it could be that they dont want to infect their families? You do realise not everybody lives in North Somerset?

AhGoGo · 17/05/2020 15:03

If they do another lockdown like this a lot of business who survived the first one won’t survive the second. So all this furlough etc was utterly pointless.

I think they’ll have to go localised.

bluebeck · 17/05/2020 15:07

Yes - very likely another lockdown and it might be a full lockdown next time, more like the Spanish model.

I think we are in this for the long haul.

Alsohuman · 17/05/2020 15:09

The flagrant disregard for mental health is really distressing. I’m lucky, I live in a beautiful place with a garden and my normally robust mental health has suffered. What it must be like in a flat with no outside space and small children, I dread to think.

PaddyF0dder · 17/05/2020 15:09

@Forgone90

That is one of the most striking silly replies I’ve ever read on Mumsnet.

You’re a nurse, right? Cool, I’m also NHS.

As a nurse, you are aware of how diseases are transmitted, yes? And you are aware that front line NHS staff are at increase risk of exposure, yes? And you are, I hope, aware of increased levels of covid amongst NHS staff, with associated higher levels of morbidity and mortality, yes?

So, assuming you have that very baseline level of knowledge, what are you on about?

Sillysop92 · 17/05/2020 15:09

I hope not, just about coping with home schooling. Praying for June 1st and DS off to school.
