People living in tourist spots should probably be concerned right now.

Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

How exactly will they spread it if residents social distance?

And you do know that catching it from a inanimate object is highly unlikely and even if you do the viral load would be so low as you’d not get symptoms or have just very mild ones,

People will think it is ok to drive 4 hours to the Lakes. The police have spent all weekend turning around and fining people who have done that and now it appears ok to do it on Wednesday

Couldn't give a shit.
It's been proven the virus lives on metal for up to 5 days.
One person using petrol pump on Monday could leave the pump contaminated till Friday. So could pass it to many many people.

It may or may not kill bacteria but as it's a virus what effect sun has on a bacteria is not really relevant.
I agree op that is a bit silly.
People may be off down devon. Although worth noting that actually london has peaked and apparently some areas outside havent.

You do know this is a virus not a bacteria and there is no evidence it is affected by either hot or cold weather. Virus can live up to 72 hours on some surfaces

Anyone living in any place remotely attractive to tourists are going to have swathes of people heading to them. Possibly spreading the disease to areas it wouldn't otherwise get too.
If people can't grasp that, they must be slightly dim and likely the same types that mingled on VE day.

That's why I'm not arguing with you.
I could have pointed out in didn't say anything about vaccines etc etc etc. But why waste my effort?.. you'd only read what you wanted anyway..

I always wipe my hands after using a petrol pump anyway. I now keep high-alcohol hand gel (yes, it kills coronavirus) in the car. Probably a good idea to wash hands after a walk in the country, and if you need to touch gates etc then consider using hand gel before/after to reduce risk of picking something up. That advice applies to locals and to those from outside.

The virus "living on metal surfaces for UP TO 5 days" will be in specific conditions. And "surviving" does not equal "sufficient amount to infect" Very unlikely to survive for anything close to that in the outdoors in the elements.
Although we should all be careful.

That's assuming the people using the petrol pump aren't wiping it down before using it or wearing gloves, though.

I should imagine most people are taking responsibility for their own hygiene at this point.

The sun does not kill the virus if it did we wouldn't be having outbreaks in hot climates where the weather is currently 40c everyday. This is not a seasonal virus.
