Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

I bet those people trudging past your house will be the sort of people who'd create an AIBU about it and argue endlessly that they are right.

AIBU to think villagers need to stop being so miserable. We went for a walk in a rural area because it was totally the only way we could possibly socially distance outside. A footpath went outside this woman's house and we didn't realise there'd be a gate. Given all this hysteria about gate touching that we've seen on Mumsnet we thought we'd do the right thing and ask her to do it for us so that we didn't spread Coronavirus, but she looked up from her gardening and refused. These people can't have it both ways. They can't complain that people touch gates and risk spreading the virus but then be miserable and refuse when some of us are responsible.

Notmyrealname855 · 13/05/2020 21:55

I had questions asking if others had worn gloves... I felt like a little troll who needed to sit at the gate recording activities!

Lovely reasonable people who want to visit the Lakes... don’t know, cos it’s full of silly people. Come when we know if there’s going to be a second spike and when no one cares about gates!

I also can’t vouch for the other walkers’ health either! I don’t know what state their in and how C19 grimey our gates are Blush

Notmyrealname855 · 13/05/2020 21:55

Omg don’t now.... I never did get off the wine and isn’t it showing

Notmyrealname855 · 13/05/2020 21:57

Oh my dear god... they're in... ok I need to go to bed!

ErrolTheDragon · 14/05/2020 08:59

DH and I have got adept at opening gates and getting over stiles without touching them with our hands, with the help of our sticks and a bit of teamwork. And of course we're always taking our sticks, even on local paths - if there's an easy way to minimise the likelihood of a twisted ankle or worse then it's silly not to. We've also got gloves and gel in the pack but only had to use them once.
It's not exactly hard to take responsibility for that sort of thing yourself- same as with rubbish, stick a bag in your rucksack to take it all home in.

TabbyMumz · 14/05/2020 09:11

Yes, most people where I live open gates with feet or using a wipe in their hand which then goes in the bin. You can easily walk for miles without touching anything or breathing on anyone.

Notmyrealname855 · 14/05/2020 10:01

Too true! And thank you for being good with rubbish, not everyone is (it’s probably about 0.02% who make trash but you’d be surprised at what’s left behind)

GinnyStrupac · 16/05/2020 14:57

We were right to be concerned. The hordes have descended on our National Park this morning and continue to stream in at a rate of knots.

Becca19962014 · 16/05/2020 19:37

Same here.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 16/05/2020 19:41

I saw on the news that police were turning away cars heading to Brighton.

ToffeeYoghurt · 16/05/2020 19:42

Welcome to the life of residents in another well known tourist spot. London. The UK's largest elderly population. And other airport cities.

Hundreds of thousands - hordes indeed - have arrived at the UK airports over the last two months. No checks, no quarantine. Also no idea where in the UK they head on to...

Whilst that's going on why is anyone surprised about any internal travel?

ToffeeYoghurt · 16/05/2020 19:43

If police were turning away cars in Brighton they're breaking the law. I hope somebody reports them.

Spr1ngStitches · 16/05/2020 20:01

If people were unable to social distance in Brighton the police were well within their rights.

ToffeeYoghurt · 16/05/2020 20:07

Can you link the relevant legislation? Have the rules changed overnight?
In England people are allowed to drive where they want for the day. The police in Brighton were breaking the law. If the reports are true.

Thousands arriving daily at our airports. The airport chiefs have said it's not possible to socially distance under those circumstances. Perhaps those police officers in Brighton might want to head to the airports.

darkforceofexcesszeal · 16/05/2020 20:10

Our mountain town is mobbed. I knew it would be. I tried to send dh to the store to pick up what we needed for the weekend on Thursday, and then again yesterday, but he said he’d do it first thing today. Of course, he sat on his arse drinking tea until ten. He got back having failed to even get to the car park because the whole place is rammed for miles. It’s the most odd thing. Locals are basically being told to stay inside to protect the town and local services, in favour of non-residents and day-trippers.

Spr1ngStitches · 16/05/2020 20:10

You have to socially distance when out. They were turning cars away from the seafront. If it was rammed and people were not able to socially distance they were perfectly ok to do that.

Spr1ngStitches · 16/05/2020 20:14

Some car parks on Dartmoor were closed again as too busy to socially distance. If HayTor was anything like Boxing Day I’m not surprised.

Becca19962014 · 16/05/2020 22:38

Our local rag and council have decided to advertise how incredibly safe it is here as our COMFIRMED cases are low. They neglected to mention it was only confirmed cases and it's almost impossible to get tested.

By whenever that pathetic excuse for a paper is out end of week the front page will be how tomorrow we were full of tourists.

Why are they so bloody thick??

I got banned for tell the rag and council to stop being so irresponsible. Everyone else was busy congratulating themselves on being safe. That's not going to last long. Oh and people can forget buying food for the next few days or avoiding tissues and gloves strewn everywhere as well.

Ffs.

Teateaandmoretea · 17/05/2020 07:53

Our mountain town is mobbed.

There are no mountains in England 🤷🏻‍♀️. The only mountains in Britain are in Wales and Scotland where the rules don’t permit driving for exercise as far as I’m aware Confused

Daffodil101 · 17/05/2020 08:00

Hordes mobbing places. Everywhere rammed.

The newspapers yesterday said that the predicted hordes failed to mob. Even the daily mail admitted it.

Who are these hordes mobbing and ramming? And where is this mountain in England? Situated in a place where everyone has been asked to stay in their houses?

StealthPolarBear · 17/05/2020 08:02

It sounds horrendous for locals and visitors.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/05/2020 08:05

Can you link the relevant legislation? Have the rules changed overnight?

Well, the normal laws pertaining to parking legally and safely haven't changed, and neither has the requirement to socially distance.

Drive as far as you want, by all means, but only if you're sure you can do both of those things or else turns around and go home if you can't.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/05/2020 08:07

There are no mountains in England

Eh? The English definition of mountain is over 2000 ft/610 metres - plenty of those. (There is no internationally definition)Grin

Humphriescushion · 17/05/2020 08:14

That shocked me , are there really no mountains in England? Wow.

Teateaandmoretea · 17/05/2020 08:19

I’ve always defined it as 1000 metres. I’ve climbed Scafell (which is no where near any town) and have always referred to it as a hill. Perhaps it’s just my definition then.

@Daffodil101 you have forgotten flooding

People are flooding to ram and mob. Even though the daily mail couldn’t find this (and they will have tried no doubt)
