People living in tourist spots should probably be concerned right now.

Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

@longinesprime

I wouldn't assume anything. It only takes one unhygienic person to spread it and some of the practices I'm still seeing regarding hygiene leave a lot to be desired. Most people can't even wash their hands properly

TheDrsDocMartens · 10/05/2020 20:17

Grockles and emits are different places I think.
Cumbria doesn’t appear to have a word for them.
Our police appear to be turning people round all the time, going to be a nightmare, we’ve been badly hit because of tourism in Feb, don’t need it again!

TJH130 · 10/05/2020 20:18

@R1R1 should cut the supply of money (e.g money that comes from England as a subsidy) to those areas as well then

Russellbrandshair · 10/05/2020 20:18

I live in a tourist area and I’m not terrified. I can wear gloves to get petrol. There you go- problem solved and btw, non tourists are just as likely to spread it as tourists are.

Fairylillie · 10/05/2020 20:18

If that happens the infection rate could go up and the public will be punished by being put back into lockdown with much stricter rules.

Stay at home, look after yourself and your family.

If those people want to volunteer themselves and their families to get sick, let them. We do need people to get out there, to test the water, to see what will happen when the lockdown is eased.

Footywife · 10/05/2020 20:19

@MonkeyToesOfDoom Well stay in then!

R1R2 · 10/05/2020 20:21

Give it a rest TJH you absolute weapon, you start down that route and see what it does to England i'd say it was halfwitted but that would offend halfwits.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 10/05/2020 20:21

Grockles and emits?
Is that slang for selfish and careless idiots?

I live in a tourist area and it worries me, if lots of people start coming down here the beaches and coast paths will be rammed making it harder to go for walks and the supermarket queues will be bigger.

SquishySquirmy · 10/05/2020 20:23

It's also assuming that the virus survives on a petrol pump for 5 days (not the same as a piece of metal in a lab), that the pump never gets wiped down once in 5 days, and that sufficient quantities of bodily fluid have been wiped on to the pump to infect everyone who touches it over the next 5 days (that's a lot of snot!)

I'm not saying there is no risk from pumps.
But there is no way that someone using a pump on a Monday can infect people using it on a Friday!

Petrol is nasty stuff on your skin (probably bad for envelope proteins too but don't know what the research is on this). Use gloves or wipe your hands after filling your car even without the contagious virus.

Perhaps avoid your local beauty spots.
Consider yourself lucky that you've had them to yourself for months.
Some people have been stuck indoors for weeks, without access to a garden or to safe places to exercise.... Your turn now?

overnightangel · 10/05/2020 20:24

“ So we should stay at home until a vaccination is discovered? Are you really saying that? Really?”

No one is saying that and you know it @ThroughThickAndThin01

AtTheFootOfTheHill · 10/05/2020 20:25

OP is right. Germany relaxed the restrictions and the of number cases has shot up.
BUT..... we cant live undrr restrictions indefinitely.
We have to accept that there will be a second wave (not quite right word) in 6 weeks.

VictoriaBun · 10/05/2020 20:25

I live about 10 miles from Buttermere in the Lake district . It was an often evening stroll for us around the lake. I've been missing the lakes / mountains , but obviously have kept well away . I think this can now travel for exercise will potentially cause spikes in very rural areas .
It would of been much better to set a mileage attached to where people can go .

This is exactly my thought process. I don’t begrudge people going to the beach where I live one bit. We’ve all been through a shit time and people need some respite.

TJH130 · 10/05/2020 20:27

@r1r2 it’s not the English that want Scottish independence though so if it was to go ahead then it would be Scotland’s fault.

In return for them leaving they should not accept any money other than their own.

Russellbrandshair · 10/05/2020 20:27

Lol plenty of people are! Have you not seen the posts calling anyone a murderer who dares to express they are finding lockdown hard? Or people saying they won’t send their kids back until a vaccine has been formulated because THEY care about their kids unlike the rest of us! Have you seriously not seen any of these posts? They’re everywhere

duckme · 10/05/2020 20:27

@TJH130
I was thinking this. While I have no intention of travelling to beauty spots over the next few weeks, I wonder if these places will be calling us tourists names and begging is not to go whenever this virus is under control and their economies are on their arses?

R1R2 · 10/05/2020 20:29

Thought i told you to give it a rest or are you in the running for some imminently closing dullard of the week award

Abraid2 · 10/05/2020 20:30

We’re in Cornwall. We said straight away that the emmits will be on their way.

Don’t worry. We won’t be going back to Cornwall.

supermanisdead · 10/05/2020 20:32

Don't worry we won't be going back to Cornwall.

Why not @Abraid2 ?

Chillipeanuts · 10/05/2020 20:32

ThroughThickAndThin01

Maybe until several thousand new infections aren’t occurring each might be a sensible starting point?

supermanisdead · 10/05/2020 20:33

An Emmitt is a Grockle in Cornwall and a Grockle is an Emmitt in Devon.

HTH

BackInTime · 10/05/2020 20:33

Shame that local residents of beauty spots and beaches will effectively have to avoid these places they will be inundated

ChessIsASport · 10/05/2020 20:33

I think it won’t be too bad if people only visit the tourist areas near where they live. The problem will be if you get people travelling from hotspots (like London and the South East) to places like Devon and Cornwall which, so far, have had very few cases.
