People living in tourist spots should probably be concerned right now.

Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

I agree with you OP, I live in a area popular for tourists and 2nd home owners, we have the lowest numbers of Covid deaths, this could all change as people head here Sad, people were already turned away today at a local beauty spot, many had travelled over 100 miles to get there Angry.

bellinisurge · 10/05/2020 21:44

I suspect the catastrophic fuck up caused by patchy advice leading straight to lockdown will be upon us again.

Mygoodlygodlingtons · 10/05/2020 21:44

How exactly will they spread it if residents social distance?

Social distancing doesn't cancel out the risk of catching the virus. It just reduces the risk.

TheGreatWave · 10/05/2020 21:45

If I go to the beach, and fall down a big hole and break my ankle, I will be taken to exactly the same hospital as I would if I fell off a ladder and broke my ankle.

sorry its in French but says 127 people tested at the funeral and out of 103 known results 9 were positve

It's been proven the virus lives on metal for up to 5 days.
One person using petrol pump on Monday could leave the pump contaminated till Friday. So could pass it to many many people

You have no intention of returning to work for the next 18 months or so until a potential vaccine then?

goodbyestranger · 10/05/2020 21:47

I live in a very, very popular coastal village and frankly welcome people being able to come back and enjoy the space along the beach. Five of my children are in London. I feel bad for having the luxury when so many people are desperate for space in the cities - high time that we shared.

Legoandloldolls · 10/05/2020 21:47

The people who.live in tourist areas should take comfort that its extremely unlikely there will be anything open come July / August so no flocks of people wanting to descend on mass at all this year.

Leisure industry MAY open up in July IF everything goes to plan. It likely wont. Plus who is going to take a punt on booking a holiday in Cornwall just in case it's open? I wouldnt.

I would rather take a punt on a Travelodge in a city in winter time which I can cancel on the day of arrival. much safer and everyone is happy.

Without a vaccine you will probably in the same situation next year to. Because in reality without a cure nothing will have changed unless 80% of us and Cornwall has the virus there is no herd immunity for either regions of the uk

Cattermole · 10/05/2020 21:49

Thinking about it though... logically... if ppl are allowed to travel etc, they are also still expected to be in work? If you can work safely from home that is the guidance, with the best will in the world that's not going to work in the back of a camper van going down the M5. And if people are worrying about money now, how are they going to fund these road trips?
Yes, there will probably be some additional footfall.
I suspect the Zombie Apocalypse will be a long time coming, though.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 10/05/2020 21:50

People mentioned car parks being closed. I just checked the national trust website and it now talks about a gradual reopening of their pay entry places, and phased opening of countryside and coastal car parks. Outdoors is low risk.

I understand people in the West Country's feelings about second home owners coming to stay, but people visiting for a few hours' walk and then going home are not going to impact your local hospitals. I also live in a tourist destination and I'm not too bothered. Actually I'm glad I can now drive to other spots 20 minutes away.

Chattycatty · 10/05/2020 21:51

All well and good saying stay in but if you live in a tourist haven and you are a key worker what do you do exactly. I'm in wales but have a sense of dread on what's coming dont travel for leisure just stay at fucking home.

TabbyMumz · 10/05/2020 21:51

You know, this goes both ways. There will be lots of people who live near the Welsh England border, who will now go to England for days out as once over the border they can go anywhere

Greenmarmalade · 10/05/2020 21:52

I think you’re right, OP. And air bnb will open up again and people will travel. It’s pretty unavoidable, though, as it stands.

RedRiverShore · 10/05/2020 21:52

Well, as soon as we are allowed we will be getting our touring caravan out and visiting where we want to, so tough titty.

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2020 21:53

The guidance on washing your hands properly and not touching your face are unchanged.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 10/05/2020 21:54

What does that have to do with people traveling many miles to places they don't live and risking transferring a virus thats killed over 30000 People?

Fwiw my job went when lockdown shut the builders merchants. No furlough, just unemployed.

superman

I’ve had lovely holidays in Cornwall. I try to be a considerate tourist, park considerately, meticulously clear up after myself, spend money, behave respectfully, learn something about the local culture and traditions.

But your post has just summed up exactly what I was talking about.
😆

TheGreatWave · 10/05/2020 21:55

happy Thank you (and for the translation) so slightly different to what was first stated.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 10/05/2020 21:55

Out of curiosity, are everyone’s cafes and chippies shut in the countryside then? Lots of my local cafes, chip shops, ice cream shops etc are open for takeaway, including the local pub doing takeaway margarita slushies.

Tootletum · 10/05/2020 21:55

Give pages of experts on covid transmission. Excellent.

My mother is dead

Whataloadofshite · 10/05/2020 21:58

I live in a village that's a world heritage site. It's a tourist trap. Now that lockdown rules are being eased, I know we will he flooded with folks.

We're fucked.

Nb89 · 10/05/2020 22:00

Dont travel to Wales we are still in pretty much the same Lockdown as before. We still have the Stay Home.message and non essential driving/travel is still not permitted.
Those coming into Wales for holidays and day trips are not welcome.
BBC Wales news said so after Boris speech but obviously BBC Wales us only broadcast in Wales so ... . Just saying!!
