Nicola Sturgeon AKA the control freak and her construction site rules

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 16:06

Quite frankly I can't stand the woman. I think she's a complete control freak. She's obsessed with looking like she's doing things differently. Thankfully I don't live in Scotland but my OH does work there (construction industry) and has been off unpaid since 20th March. Massively struggling now after getting nothing but UC which goes nowhere. All construction sites have been forced to close in Scotland minus a few hospitals etc. England sites never had to close, friends in England in this trade are either at work now or have a confirmed date to go back within the next week or 2. Absolutely no mention of this in Scotland even though they are able to distance. Getting increasingly frustrated now and wondering if anyone has any insight or thoughts about when construction sites in Scotland will be allowed to reopen?

Oh @Sadie789 nowhere have I frothed or been rabid, I merely disagreed with you, you are the one being vitriolic regards SNP supporters.
Regardless of your leanings, Ms Sturgeon has been much praised across the board for her handling of this situation, only the blinded Unionists grab every opportunity to criticise her.

Cabinfever10 · 28/04/2020 21:56

@Sadie789
We have about 10% of the population of England.
We (unlike England) have been reporting all covid19 deaths each day including care homes and at home deaths which have covid19 mentioned on the death certificate and we still have less than 10% of the deaths England has reported. Ons stats suggest that the English death rate should have had an extra 7000+ deaths in total added up until the 12th of April

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:56

@JKScot4 I don’t see where the two graphs show that population and density is not a factor

JKScot4 · 28/04/2020 21:58

They show the relentless rise in England where everyone else is falling.
Do you live in Scotland?

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 22:00

@JKScot4 short memory, she wasn’t getting much praise when her pal was flitting between properties and old Nic was sticking up for her.

JKScot4 · 28/04/2020 22:02

And where is the outrage about the numerous Tories flirting to country homes, parents homes, PM openly flaunting social distancing rules?
The Tory biased press only target SNP, it’s ironic that we are so disliked yet they cling onto Scotland, I wonder why 🤔

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 22:05

@JKScot4 yes I do.

Scotland 70 people per sq km. England 430.

You cannot argue that isn’t a significant factor.

runrunrunrunt · 28/04/2020 22:05

@sadie789 doesn't seem to understand numbers, graphs or percentages.

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 22:07

@JKScot4 I didn’t mention the Tories. Taking tips from Nicola in deflecting every challenge by blaming it on Westminster/the Tories/England...

ThePerfectPintOfIceColdBeer · 28/04/2020 22:08

I'm another one who's thankful you don't live in Scotland. I do and I think she's doing a great job (and, dare I say it, so was Boris when he started doing the briefings). As our leaders they have to put politics aside and keep us safe, and so should we.

If your DH is not furloughed then presumably he could get a job at one of your English ones which are still open?

runrunrunrunt · 28/04/2020 22:12

@JKScot4 I don’t see where the two graphs show that population and density is not a factor

Wtf

FlamingIris · 28/04/2020 22:15

I’m sorry your families money is uncertain. Your anger is misplaced. Scotland is not a borough of England sorry and the FM is Nicola Sturgeon.
Sadly your situation is not unique and I’d be directing your anger closer to West Minster as they are the reason this virus is out of hand.

TomatoLatte · 28/04/2020 22:19

Tell your husband to find a job in England.

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 22:23

It's not so simple that he can walk straight into another job sadly, it takes time and there is nothing to say there is any vacancies right now. My question was how long people thought it would be before they re-open just to gather some thoughts from people who know more about this.

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 22:27

But minus a few helpful replies, I needn't of bothered, Tpost is clogged with the likes of @jk who has basically taken over the thread. Are you finished yet?

OP posts:
Bflatmajorsharp · 28/04/2020 22:29

OP, I agree with the poster who said that your dh should probably start trying to get other work now, not leave it a couple of weeks.

You will both feel better doing something about your situation, rather than directing your ire at NS.

Hope that things work out for you.

Snailandthewhale · 28/04/2020 22:37

My DH's construction site is back open on the 11th May too.

You sound really narrow minded to blame NS because your husband isn't being paid. Thousands of people who don't work in construction are in the same position. That's people in England too.

EachDubh · 28/04/2020 22:43

Op sorry re money worries it is a hard and stressful time for so many people just now.

There was justification in shutting down building sites because they were deemed no essential and sd and good hygiene would have been more difficult. I imagine that they will open fairly quickly when lockdown starts to lift but there will have to be changes made to ensure sd etc.

The comments from op re nicola sturgeon were misplaced, a personal belief but she didn't do something wrong or callous, your op is the reason why the thread has gone off course. At the end of the day it is her job and many in Scotland believe, through thisbshe has done a good job. Like all politicians the proof will be in the next Scottish parliament elections.

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 22:46

@Snailandthewhale is that in Scotland?

I am not specifically blaming her for him not being paid, I never said that. I stated that all sites in England had not been forced to close although yes I know many did. I don't want to keep going over what I've already said and my reasons.

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/04/2020 22:47

At least scotland made it clear what was required, in England it was totally left to interpretation and individual company policy. Some people are being forced to work or risk loosing their jobs and in reality social distancing on sites is near impossible.

JKScot4 · 28/04/2020 22:49

Yes, you did blame her, calling her a control
freak etc and as if it was her sole decision to shut down construction.
Your DH should have looked for alternative employment weeks ago, supermarkets, delivery, farms etc.

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 22:50

@EachDubh agreed I should of left that part out now after the way this thread has gone. I'm just sick with worry over what's going to happen and wish we could have some answers soon.

OP posts:
Snailandthewhale · 28/04/2020 22:52

@usernamenotavail yes, that's in Scotland.

I get it, but you can't expect people to not react. NS is here to make decisions for Scotland, if we wanted to follow England we would have voted differently.

RosesandIris · 28/04/2020 22:54

I think she’s been great during this crisis. I don’t like the SNP at all, but she’s been clear, concise and has led with conviction. Lockdown has been enforced quite stringently too. She is honest and straightforward.

babbi · 28/04/2020 23:04

Cannot believe Nicola is being criticised for doing her job .
Honestly find that bewildering...
She is leading as she’s the FM -it’s her job to lead .. working very long hours clearly working hard for her salary and showing that she is taking her responsibilities seriously and that’s a problem for some people ... ??
