Nicola Sturgeon AKA the control freak and her construction site rules

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 16:06

Quite frankly I can't stand the woman. I think she's a complete control freak. She's obsessed with looking like she's doing things differently. Thankfully I don't live in Scotland but my OH does work there (construction industry) and has been off unpaid since 20th March. Massively struggling now after getting nothing but UC which goes nowhere. All construction sites have been forced to close in Scotland minus a few hospitals etc. England sites never had to close, friends in England in this trade are either at work now or have a confirmed date to go back within the next week or 2. Absolutely no mention of this in Scotland even though they are able to distance. Getting increasingly frustrated now and wondering if anyone has any insight or thoughts about when construction sites in Scotland will be allowed to reopen?

OP posts:
PlayingGrownUp · 28/04/2020 16:57

Construction sites are closed in Northern Ireland so it’s not just Scotland that chose to close them.

Iamthewombat · 28/04/2020 17:03

Poor bloody Nicola Sturgeon. She makes a sensible decision, advised by medical and scientific experts, and people are still moaning because she hasn’t considered their specific wants.

Should she have kept all the construction sites in Scotland open so that your finances were protected? Would you still have supported that decision if your OH had caught the virus and become very ill, or passed it on to an elderly relative?

Nirvana1979 · 28/04/2020 17:09

She is obsessed with trying to do things differently to England and pushing for a second independence referendum

What a load of shite.

She was very clear yesterday during her briefing about both points. Journalists questioning her about the same.

I like her, shes clear, concise and answers questions instead of avoiding them like the WM lot. Painfully trying to string a sentence together. Raab was the worst.

Goodiewhemper · 28/04/2020 17:10

Hmmm so you are happy not to live in Scotland but you are happy for your husband to work there and I presume earn Scottish money. Wow is all I can say.

owlstwooting · 28/04/2020 17:18

OP and anyone else newly having to claim UC -

"UC doesn't go anywhere"

The people who've been on UC before all this have been trying to tell everyone how it's almost impossible to live on, for ages. Not many of the unaffected gave it a second thought until they had to claim it.

runrunrunrunt · 28/04/2020 17:21

Because I've seen the way her unnecessary actions of closing them in the first place when England didn't have affected so many who now risk being unable to feed their family and keep a roof over their heads and I that is my opinion of her, which I am entitled to and know I am not the only one. Please don't comment unless it's helpful.*

Look at the differing death rate between Scotland and England. I sympathise with your position but quite frankly lives are more important at this point. She made the righty call. Lots of people are suffering financially. The construction industry will probably be one of the first things to open when they can.

TheSandman · 28/04/2020 17:21

That's a lot of skipping you're doing there, OP, isn't it?

JingsMahBucket · 28/04/2020 17:51

@TheSandman what does that phrase mean? I’m not British so don’t know it.

Toilenstripes · 28/04/2020 17:57

Would you refer to a man as a control freak? She’s first minister of Scotland. It’s her responsibility to make decisions that will protect Scottish lives.

Bartlet · 28/04/2020 18:01

Don’t have a view on the safety of construction sites but she is clearly an absolute control freak. She has been on tv every single day and has sidelined all her other colleagues. Westminster has spread it out between senior politicians but she has hogged every bit of the limelight for herself.

StoorieHoose · 28/04/2020 18:05

WM spread it out a bit cos the PM was in ICU ffs. Mind you it is Lazy Boris so he probably wouldn't have done every night like Nicola.

I take it you have the same issue with Trump, Macron and Trudeau being the one to do the public address every night?

Bartlet · 28/04/2020 18:12

They started doing it in Westminster far before BJ got ill.

In Scotland it makes it look like NS doesn’t trust any of her other colleagues. It’s very typically SNP as they are fanatical about staying on message and never allowing any public differences of opinion.

Makes more sense in US and France to have a single voice as they have a presidential system. We do not and have a party/ first among equals system (unless you’re NS who wants to appear to be the only politician in Scotland)

StoorieHoose · 28/04/2020 18:16

Pretty certain she isn't on that podium alone and the experts who aren't part of SG or the SNP and right beside her answering questuons.

And WM started doing it cos Boris is a lazy twat - he was full of vim and vigor yesterday morning but hasn't done the daily briefing and leaving it to Hancock the Scapegoat

raviolidreaming · 28/04/2020 18:19

Port a loos, poor or no hand washing facilities, trades men on top of each other. Just because England stayed open doesn’t mean they are right and the rest of the UK are wrong

Absolutely this. I don't think my DH has even been on a job with a canteen, and when he was put on furlough there was no running water at the site for hand washing.

helpfulperson · 28/04/2020 18:22

She is on the podium every day because she is the leader. Others, such as the education secretary and finance minister have been giving briefings on their own specialisms.

weebarra · 28/04/2020 18:23

I would add that both DH and I totally agree with lockdown and totally complying with it. It's more that there are aspects of DHs job that can be done without compromising things, and these are aspects which would keep cash flow going into a small business - which hasn't had a loan through yet.
There are ten surveyors. 2 have been furloughed and the rest have taken a 20% pay cut while still working the same hours.

cacaca · 28/04/2020 18:26

Surely your husband can just get a job in England - problem solved. I hate the snp but actually think she’s doing quite a good job dealing with coronavirus.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 28/04/2020 18:37

OP even before this construction sites in Scotland were known for their poor health and safety record.

If your husband got Covid-19 I bet you would blame NS when it's actually the easiest thing the Scottish government can do to protect your husband's, yours and the rest of your family's health.

Nirvana1979 · 28/04/2020 18:44

Sorry but thats hilarious about NS hogging the limelight 🤣🤣 shes the First Minister ffs.

ChipotleBlessing · 28/04/2020 18:47

If England’s so great and so much better than Scotland, why isn’t your DH just working at one of those construction sites you’re so certain are super safe?

CayrolBaaaskin · 28/04/2020 18:49

@Letsdrinkgin - you did indeed make the right choice. Nicola is obviously not doing the opposite of the Westminster gov but at least we don’t have to tolerate your pointless moaning and baseless hate of the SNP. Byeeeeee

Elieza · 28/04/2020 18:55

Yeah isn’t it awful that the First Minister shut down places that would have made employees come in to work and not keep them safe as they’d be too close, catch a killer virus that’s killed over 20k people, and die themselves.

Yeah, just dreadful she’s trying to force employers to take their staffs health and safety seriously. How very dare she.

If you don’t like her OP get your husband to work in England, thereby solving the problem?

EC22 · 28/04/2020 18:57

I think that your hatred of her is clouding your judgement.
She has a duty to protect the people of Scotland. That’s what she’s trying to do.

Onemorefortheroad · 28/04/2020 19:16

Control freak 🙄

She is our First Minister. If she wants to make and announce decisions that are deemed best for Scotland then why shouldn't she? Have you actually listened to what she has to say?

I really struggle with what people have to dislike like about her at the moment and what they would prefer she was doing instead.

Sonichu · 28/04/2020 19:27

"In Scotland it makes it look like NS doesn’t trust any of her other colleagues. It’s very typically SNP as they are fanatical about staying on message and never allowing any public differences of opinion."

Lol what a load of shite.
