Nicola Sturgeon AKA the control freak and her construction site rules

Quite frankly I can't stand the woman. I think she's a complete control freak. She's obsessed with looking like she's doing things differently. Thankfully I don't live in Scotland but my OH does work there (construction industry) and has been off unpaid since 20th March. Massively struggling now after getting nothing but UC which goes nowhere. All construction sites have been forced to close in Scotland minus a few hospitals etc. England sites never had to close, friends in England in this trade are either at work now or have a confirmed date to go back within the next week or 2. Absolutely no mention of this in Scotland even though they are able to distance. Getting increasingly frustrated now and wondering if anyone has any insight or thoughts about when construction sites in Scotland will be allowed to reopen?

@longtimecomin thank you for your helpful reply, can I ask how you know it's 11th may?

Absolutely gobsmacked at the replies calling me nasty, money grabbing, and all i want to do is take people's money, are you on drugs? I'm trying to ensure a roof is kept over my family's house and we are able to put food on the table ffs get a grip, obviously sheer idiotic comments like that come from people who are safely tucked up in their homes with money coming in still. That must be really nice for you, congrats. That's the last thing I will say in reply to the childish comments like that. Be ashamed of yourself. The bullying nasty behaviour on here is really sad. He travels if you insist on knowing, does not work in Scotland permanently, this is where the work is for next year or so.

JingsMahBucket · 28/04/2020 21:11

@usernamenotavail can he get temporary work in England?

StoorieHoose · 28/04/2020 21:13

Only bullying nasty behaviour I can see is you slating Nicola Sturgeon

donquixotedelamancha · 28/04/2020 21:13

Absolutely gobsmacked at the replies calling me nasty, money grabbing

One person said both of those things. All the other replies have disagreed with the content of what you said.

JKScot4 · 28/04/2020 21:14

I think you have a cheek calling anyone nasty or bullying with your derogatory OP about Nicola Sturgeon, an elected FM who is doing a better job than idiot Johnson.
You do realise it’s her job to lead the country with factual information and guidance.
Did you call Johnson a control freak when he shut schools and issued lockdown instructions?
Get a grip yourself.

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 21:15

@JingsMahBucket if it's going to be a while before he can go back then he will phone around and see if he can go elsewhere, we could just about cope with another 2 weeks max but no longer, it's just the uncertainty

OP posts:
JingsMahBucket · 28/04/2020 21:17

@usernamenotavail he might as well start calling around now.

MissAnanke · 28/04/2020 21:23

I saw a furloughed pilot on the news who has taken on a delivery driving job with ASDA. Maybe he could try that?

SunshineOnLeithh · 28/04/2020 21:26

Bad Nicola Sturgeon, trying to keep workers and their families safe/alive BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!

Sonichu · 28/04/2020 21:27

"The bullying nasty behaviour on here is really sad."

Almost as sad as your goady, baiting original post.

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:27

People are so easily fooled.

Absolutely every part of Sturgeon’s approach to this pandemic is carefully engineered towards her eventual goal of independence.

And in the end she will quietly just do whatever Westminster tells her to. She will just spin it so that it looks like it was her idea.

Mawbags · 28/04/2020 21:31

Nicola’s been amazing..... calm, succinct, decisive and open.

Nobody could say we see any of those qualities in Westminster.

Gingerkittykat · 28/04/2020 21:32

My nephew works for a large construnction company, his work have sent him to England right now but he is expecting his site in Scotland to reopen within the next month.

I don't know if he has some inside information or it is just guesswork on his part.

I think one of the big concerns would be accommodation for non-local workers. He generally lives in digs or a static caravan and eats in places like Weatherspoons and I have no idea how that could be done safely.

JKScot4 · 28/04/2020 21:34

@Sadie789
How about she is just very good at her job?
The vitriol towards her is pathetic, what’s Johnson’s ploy? just keep being a inept idiot?

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:39

@jkscot4 none of that made sense. The usual frothy mouthed, rabid response from a blinkered paid up SNP supporter.

Morgan12 · 28/04/2020 21:42

😂😂😂 this has to be a joke right?
Have you seen the difference in the Scotland and England death rates?
I know where I'd rather be.

Unescorted · 28/04/2020 21:44

Sparklingplasters good point about H&S - collective reasonability means that if there are breaches then the site will need to be closed down & how long will it take to get site inspections done. Pinch points are going to be site briefings, materials to site and welfare units.

OP - people aren't being nasty, just not agreeing with you . From the posts on here you have some very knowledgeable people pointing out that sites are not universally open in England and some sites may open next week but with restrictions that will limit the trades that can be on site & the conditions which will restrict numbers. Also reopening sites will have H&S implications - removing those safeguards will kill people (and not from COVID).

Most sites in England that are thinking of reopening are those developers that use subbies. The direct employs have furloughed their workers. Therefore if they do reopen and you OH works on substructure then there will be opportunities for them. If not then even south of the border there isn't a lot of trade work in resi construction.

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:44

The responses on this thread are bonkers.

Few posters seem to have any comprehension of the broad brush term “construction” and the myriad roles and trades this actually covers. Sweeping statements such as “Scotland is known for its poor H&S record in construction” actually could not be further from the truth.

Social distancing and hygiene policies can in fact very easily be put in place on many sites and at many premises. The exceptions would be much smaller jobs such as individual house refurbs. These account for a tiny segment of the construction sector.

goodname · 28/04/2020 21:45

I work for a small comstruction company in Scotland and we have Obviously closed down. As we pay all our workers through paye rather than sub contracting we can furlough them all and continue to pay them. Our staff are definitely happy they dont have to risk their health by continuing working. The travel three to a van to side as most business would and will be on sites with loads of other trades, as mentioned manual handling, site supervision, safe working practices etc could not be carried out with social distancing.
The real issue in the construction industry is the number of self employed labour only subcontractors and cash in hand workers who will not benefit from the furlough scheme. If anything this points to the necessity to reform the rather dodgy employment practices prevalent in the building industry as a whole

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:46

@Morgan12 have you seen the difference in the English and Scottish population sizes and densities? Simply not comparable.

Morgan12 · 28/04/2020 21:50

Oh they have been compared. Just need to Google.

England deaths are approx 20 per 100,000 and Scotland are 11 per 100,000.

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:51

@Morgan12 ... because of the population density.

Sadie789 · 28/04/2020 21:52

@Morgan12 not Nicola Sturgeon, as was the implication

JKScot4 · 28/04/2020 21:53

Proportionately 15% of positives in England result in death, in Scotland it’s less than 10%, population irrelevant.

Every time Nicola Sturgeon comes on tv I switch off. She is so blatantly out for her own agenda and herself.
