The business has been loss making for years with hubby baling her out year on year.
It's the vanity project of a talentless woman and should not be saved by hard pressed British taxpayers.
They spend much of their time abroad, likely as not minimise their tax contributions to this country, and yet quickly take advantage in spite of their millions.
David's got the money he should pay up . Shame on them !!!

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 22/04/2020 03:06

I dont think whether the business was struggling or that they are rich is relevant tbh. I'd direct my annoyance at the government who made the rules.

Monty27 · 22/04/2020 03:08

I get fed up of people banging on about how rich people should conduct their financial affairs and contribute to all sorts.
The only people that know what they do with their money and where it goes are their accountants.
It's just click bate. Give it a rest 😪😪

leafygarden · 22/04/2020 06:01

Her business makes a substantial loss every year, so it's not a viable business model. Why should taxpayers subsidise her vanity project?

A valid point there

daisychain01 · 22/04/2020 06:05

Victoria and David Beckham have contributed significant amounts of income tax, stamp duty on their large properties, capital gains tax. The list goes on. Whether or not VBs business is profitable or not is irrelevant.

You can't apply one rule for them and one for other people. They have just as much right to leverage the government's rescue package as everyone else.

Marnie76 · 22/04/2020 06:05

Her business is a loss making vanity project, it’s there in black and white on Companies House.
No problem for her husband to bail out but not for the British public to do so.

ivykaty44 · 22/04/2020 06:05

There are 54 billionaires in U.K.
If they donated 1% of there wealth
They’d raise 27 times what Capt Tom Moore has
Between 54 people

Aridane · 22/04/2020 06:06

Ha - hundreds of years of company law of the company being a separate legal entity from its directors and shareholders dismantled because their directors are personally wealthy and / or disliked

custardbear · 22/04/2020 06:34

Yep, vanity project, the country has better things to spend money on than that type of 'business'. If the Beckhams invested even the interest they make on their millions into their staff, rather than holding out their gold and diamond draped greedy hands, the country may have a bit more respect for them ...

dudsville · 22/04/2020 06:39

We live in a market economy, based on rules for business, not people. They are simply playing by the rules. If we want things to be fair we need to change from a market based economy. Otherwise all we'll get is the occasional filthy rich person doing the right thing and getting our admiration - which isn't right either. I like bill gates, for instance, but so much shouldn't be relying on his being a kind benefactor.

wonkytonkwoman · 22/04/2020 06:45

Victoria needs to spit on her hanky and give that Brooklyn's face a good wipe, he's grubby.

ChakaDakotaRegina · 22/04/2020 06:47

we are going to be paying this money back in taxes for years and frankly I think its right to question the validity of where it’s going

This

UK tax paying companies should be the priority otherwise we’re just funding some untold Cayman Island stockpiles and Philip Greens yachts.

Zug2 · 22/04/2020 06:53

There is no way the businesses of Richard Branson and Victoria Beckham can be compared.

I think it is better to compare VB to Stella McCartney who is also doing the same thing, using the government furlough scheme to keep their business going.

MarginalGain · 22/04/2020 07:10

I don't really see the problem with her exercising her right to furlough her employees.

Growingboys · 22/04/2020 07:13

Yep shocking.

On the plus side, Becks will never get his knighthood now!

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 22/04/2020 07:18

@Growingboys well Philip Green still has a knighthood so I don't think they are that fussy about who has one.

Danniotley · 22/04/2020 07:24

So if it should only be available to companies paying taxes I assume that you are saying that no charities should be allowed to furlough staff?

okiedokieme · 22/04/2020 07:31

We are a charity and furloughed all the staff but me (so I'm doing everything) other peoples businesses will only just have started, do we not deserve support?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/04/2020 07:46

Yes, a loss making vanity project that is regularly propped up with personal money so that keeps many in a job, pays taxes etc.

If it doesn't get furloughed then it gets closed. Same business choice as every other business in the UK. The money goes into the pockets of the employees, she isn't claiming for herself. Seems reasonable to me.

But so many dislike pragmatism in real life!

Helmetbymidnight · 22/04/2020 07:47

This applies to so many businesses though. I don’t see why she’s getting singled out

shes singled out because shes dirty working class- this is why the footballers are attacked.

meanwhile the huge inherited wealth crowd, the jrms, the cummings, the boris's are untoucheable.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 22/04/2020 07:53

I would have expected VB would have been smarter than this.If I was in her position and bearing in mind how big Brand Beckham is I would have jumped on the PPE bandwagon and the kudos she could have brought to her own brand would have done more than anything else could...I am surprised she has missed this trick , ditch the dresses and make something vital VB...She has the facilities she has the staff makes sense to me to diversify and emply people at the same time and get the standing ovation too!

JudyCoolibar · 22/04/2020 07:54

I think a 'business' should be provably trading at a profit, yes, to qualify for the CJRS handouts.

So all the Carluccio's employees should be sacked/made redundant and go on to benefit, despite the fact that the administrator is working on deal to sell all or part as going concerns and preserve their jobs?

HairyToity · 22/04/2020 08:01

I have worked with high networth people and they are rarely as rich as touted. Often it's smoke and mirrors. I suspect Beckhams real worth is about £50 million. I suspect after all his business debt Branson worth is about £300 million. This is thin air but generally it often seems to be a fraction of quoted value. Remember when James Stunt was being touted as a billionaire, and Katie Price was supposedly worth £50 million.

MarginalGain · 22/04/2020 08:02

shes singled out because shes dirty working class- this is why the footballers are attacked.

I think this is probably true, or something like it. A kind of knee-jerk anti-celebrity culture elitism, a fundamentally unthinking one in this case. I'm not crazy about the Beckhams either but they're obviously contributing to the tax base.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 22/04/2020 08:03

@Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe I agree why on earth didn't she start making PPE!
