Sainsbury’s - disgusting unsanitary delivery for vulnerable customers

Hi All - on hold to Sainsbury’s and want to make you aware of their unsanitary delivery to vulnerable shielded customers

I’ve just come back from sanitising a grocery delivery for a vulnerable person (on lung transplant waiting list). Sainsbury’s delivered shopping without bags and left in a common hallway that various people walk on: including loose unbagged fruit and vegetables (melon, onions etc)

Making you aware in case it’s your parents and other loved ones on the receiving end of this great customer service

Surely it was in a pallet\box not all loose on the floor?
Was there somewhere else safe they were told to leave it on the delivery note?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 18/04/2020 13:12

Where did the order ask them to be delivered? All mine have been left, in bags, at my front door as I request in my delivery instructions. Haven’t had any problems with them at all.

bluebell34567 · 18/04/2020 13:12

thats disgusting.

Pipandmum · 18/04/2020 13:15

How odd. Any delivery I've had has been in bags and the driver has waited for me to open door to acknowledge acceptance of substitutions etc. Have you complained?

bringbacksideburns · 18/04/2020 13:16

I think it sometimes says bags aren't provided. When I did a click and collect it said in small print that bags weren't used so I took bags with me, but in the end it was bagged anyway.

Was there no one there to meet the delivery and where were they told to leave it? We're they told to ring a doorbell. Contact them and complain and I'm sure they will remedy for next time and have a word with the driver.

JingleCatJingle · 18/04/2020 13:17

I’ve always had great service from Sainsbury’s. Something odd must have happened here.

buttermilkwaffles · 18/04/2020 13:19

If you @ them on Twitter you are more likely to get a response rather than waiting on hold for ages.

Pelleas · 18/04/2020 13:19

Supermarket shop and delivery staff are doing a great job. Obviously something went wrong here, but I don't think Sainsbo should be shamed on the basis of an isolated mistake.

MrsJoshNavidi · 18/04/2020 13:19

What does this person do about sanitising shopping in non-Covid times? Shopping has been through many hands/floors before it gets to you. Leaving it on a communal lobby floor isn't really increasing the risk.

I would have thought someone with a serious lung condition waiting for a transplant would already have a system in place for this kind of thing.

NCforthisMarch · 18/04/2020 13:19

It was all loose on the floor: got through to customer services and no apology/resolution: the phone went weird and I was cut off by the agent, unbelievable

All my deliveries from Sainsbury's lately have been in bags. Prior to this it was unbagged but now bagged even though the order page says pack without bags.

This seems to be a store issue rather than a Sainsbury's issue.

socialcommentator · 18/04/2020 13:21

I call BS, all my dealings with sainsbury have been exemplary

maddiemookins16mum · 18/04/2020 13:22

What resolution are you looking for, seriously?

myrtleWilson · 18/04/2020 13:22

all my c&c from Sainsbury's are bagged at the moment - even if my account has a 'no bagged' preference...

Thisisitisit · 18/04/2020 13:24

I don't think you can declare this is normal for them as it isn't. Why wouldn't she just complain rather than you post on here trying to warn people off Confused

For the record, Sainsbury's have always been excellent delivery wise here.

Cary2012 · 18/04/2020 13:25

I've been impressed by Sainsbo's delivery too. Both arrived bagged up, knock on door, thumbs up from driver walking back to van when we saw me. Separate bags for frozen, all good.

Permenantlyexhaustedpidgeon · 18/04/2020 13:26

As others have said, we have had amazing service from Sainsburys lately (also a vulnerable household) and although it comes up as bagless online, everything has been provided with bags. I appreciate you are angry, but maybe feed it back to them in a constructive way? They are under incredible stress and continuing to work when the rest of us get to stay safe in our homes.

GinNotGym19 · 18/04/2020 13:28

If the phone went weird I highly doubt you was cut off by the agent, would of likely been a system issue.
I agree with pp that considering all the places it’s been before the floor and everyone that’s touched it, wouldn’t make a huge difference touching the floor for 5 mins.

Sennetti · 18/04/2020 13:28

another drama lama

NCforthisMarch · 18/04/2020 13:37

Astonished at the rude responses on here, I’m sure you wouldn’t like it if your loose fruit and veg stuck on the pavement outside your house....

After calling customer complaints a second time I got through to a different agent who apologised for this, and took the licence plate of the delivery driver to contact the store where the order was picked

The resolution I want is for their drivers not to do something so filthy and disgusting. Sounds like it’s not ‘normal’ but it’s just happened and that’s not going to be the only delivery on the route

People who are being shielded are being shielded for a reason: my fear is that if I were not able to go for some reason (eg being ill myself) then my loved ones choice is eat food that been on the floor or go without for a week ...

OP posts:
HilaryBriss · 18/04/2020 13:42

Can your loved one not wash or sanitise it themselves? Surely you wash fruit and veg before eating whether it has been on the floor or not.

IHaveAMagicBean · 18/04/2020 13:44

Yeah, it’s still better than bugger all.
Drama lama.
Are you always so affected by other people?

Biscuit
Witchend · 18/04/2020 13:48

Have you checked the expected shopping is all there? Because Sainsbury's are delivering all in bags at present, even if you tick no bags, so it sounds unlikely they delivered it like that. As it's a communal hall, I'd wonder if someone heard it arrive and tipped the stuff out to see if there was anything to take.

TheFlis12345 · 18/04/2020 13:48

Fruit and veg are not grown in sterile conditions! A carrot being on a hall floor is no more dangerous than it having been grown in the ground in the first place.
