Why is everyone so eager to get vaccinated?

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 09:39

What I mean by this is that a SAFE vaccine for coronavirus wouldn't be available for at least a couple of years. Vaccines need to be thoroughly tested and, although a lot of Mumsnetters don't like to believe it, vaccine injury IS REAL.

It's very sinister how very interested Bill Gates has become in the pharma industry in the last few years and how he advocates forced vaccines, or at least loss of freedom of movement/access for those who choose not to vaccinate (which is pretty much a forced vaccine). He doesn't care about vaccine injury as we are basically collateral damage to his end goal.

Is it not fair to be wary of a rushed vaccine? Is it not fair to not want to be vaccinated if I'm not fully ware of the implications just yet? When I come on here, I see a lot of people who are very happy that we have to stay inside (I understand the reason for this), I see people who are quarantining food and washing eggs and would take a vaccine if one was available tomorrow. I find it quite alarming how we've been fed stories about death after death after death, really biased stuff with hardly any balanced information. We've been frightened into being heavily controlled and that's the thing that really scares me.

YANBU.
The responses on this thread tell you all you need to know about most people's attitudes and why our kids futures are at stake. Critical thought is "lunacy ".
Don't you know OP, you need to TRUST the experts, and everything will be all right!
Ha!

Sparklingplasters · 15/04/2020 11:01

What’s your Beef with Bill Gates? Probably the most prolific philanthropist of our times. His foundation is the second largest contributor to the WHO.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 15/04/2020 11:01

Reported. This kind of uninformed (and frankly, idiotic) attitude towards science and healthcare is dangerous. It should not be spread amongst people who are already scared for the safety of their families

Well said and good call

Nearlyalmost50 · 15/04/2020 11:02

I think people are just as rabidly pro-vaccines as they are anti-vaccines.

It's very odd. I think it's fine to raise issues with potential vaccines and think them through= the most obvious ones being it's hard to make vaccines for mutating viruses (as proved by our flu jab often being irrelevant by the time it is released and the virus has already mutated for that year), the protection isn't 100% so those people who have had it might still need to shield if there are different strains circulating, that they are rushed, that the pharmaceutical industry has a history of rushing vaccines and hiding the side-effects (indeed of doing that with lots of drugs, that's why they have been fined billions of dollars).

I have vaccinated my children all the standard vaccinations, and would consider any upcoming vaccine, but it's not even clear most people would have access to it, we don't all get the flu vaccine and flu still manages to kill quite a few people per year, including some who had the vaccine (as it can't protect against every strain).

I do agree the OP's post is written in a conspiracy style way, but the pharma companies have been fined billions of dollars for conspiring to cover up death/side-effects in their products. I don't think it's wrong to point out their vested interests.

BruceAndNosh · 15/04/2020 11:03

Don't diss the Gates.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/04/2020 11:03

The risk of vaccine injury is lower than the risk of life changing/ending infection with CV

Is it? Not saying you're wrong: merely playing devil's advocate.

Eskarina1 · 15/04/2020 11:03

I do think this has the potential to be a "forced" vaccine to some extent. My employer is likely to require it if they can, because

ZandathePanda · 15/04/2020 11:04
Biscuit

I think biology/science GCSE needs to beef up the microbiology and vaccinations bit so future posters can understand how they sound to others when they say such things.

Are you a daily mail journalist OP fishing for theories?

Eskarina1 · 15/04/2020 11:04

...we work with vulnerable groups, so working with them unvaccinated would be selfish.

WrinkledlikeAudrey · 15/04/2020 11:05

Clean water, proper drainage and Vaccinations have massively improved Public Health, reduced incidence of epidemic diseases and reduced child mortality. Insidious Anti-vaccine propaganda has led to increase in childhood measles in many parts of the world and it is a disease that still kills and maims children.

We have become used to the idea that all infectious diseases are eminently treatable and vaccines are "unnecessary" and "toooo risky".

Now we are seeing how a disease with easy transmission, no cure and no vaccination can spread rapidly and affect all age groups. Improvements in speed of vaccine testing due to scientific advance give the hope that a safe and effective vaccine can be found to make our future safer.

JudyCoolibar · 15/04/2020 11:07

I find it quite alarming how we've been fed stories about death after death after death, really biased stuff with hardly any balanced information.

So what are you saying? That those 15,000 people who have died of Covid in the UK alone haven't really died? How do you suggest news outlets should "balance" information about a disease that kills people?

HPLikecraft · 15/04/2020 11:09

We're so eager to get a vaccine, OP, because we don't want to die. Pretty obvious really. And we would assume that a vaccine was deemed safe before becoming available. Again, basic stuff.

If you're wary, thats fine: I doubt vaccination will be mandatory. You take your chances with CV; others of us will take our chances with a vaccine. 🤷

Zeusthemoose · 15/04/2020 11:10

I don't agree with the Bill Gates stuff Op but yes I will be cautious when it comes to the vaccine. Everyone will have to weigh up the possible risks for themselves.

sashh · 15/04/2020 11:12

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude How do you know the risk is lower than infection of CV if we don't even have a vaccine yet??

Well Covid 19 is both infectious and has a high mortality rate, vaccines don't usually kill people and a vaccine is a bit like a recipe, other than the actual active ingredient many ingredients are the same, this is why annual flu jabs can be made. It's a bit like making a cake, if you have a recipe for a victoria sponge with raspberry jam you can easily adapt it to be made with strawberry jam.

Obviously a huge simplification there.

So many are telling OP to fuck off etc just for daring to raise a different point of view..|

Sometimes the other 'point of view' is so out of whack with the truth it should not be voiced.

LeeMiller · 15/04/2020 11:13

Bill Gates' end goal? Eliminating diseases that kill or disable millions of people ? How sinister.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/04/2020 11:15

@RoseyOldCrow of course, help yourself! I've been stockpiling them for just such emergencies as this. Grin

HopeMumsnet · 15/04/2020 11:17

Hi all,
We're just popping on to say we have had a great deal of reports about this thread, but in general we do think that MNers are up to the task of discussing contentious topics.
We don't tend to tolerate specific anti vax advice but this appears to be broader, relating to a potential as yet untested vaccine and we note that a spirited defence of the principles of vaccination has already been made so we are content to let this continue.
We have, of course, removed any personal attacks and would ask politely that they cease.
Hope all your families and friends are safe and well - weird times, huh?

Scautish · 15/04/2020 11:19

I think you’ll find we’re all being vaccinated secretly via 5G radiation that are being secretly deployed at 8pm on Thursdays when we’re all out clapping.

These nasty beams of hate contain millions of tiny spike-needles. They pierce not only our body but also OUR SOUL.

CoraPirbright · 15/04/2020 11:20

Bill Gates...doesn't care about vaccine injury as we are basically collateral damage to his end goal

Which is.....to research and try to eliminate many diseases esp malaria. Bastard.

I think you’ll find your tin foil hat looks more fetching when placed at a jaunty angle.

redbushtea · 15/04/2020 11:22

I agree with you OP. I will not be getting any so called vaccine. The speed at which they are planning to put it out seems to indicate it was already developed before this Covid 19 even appeared.

catflapuk · 15/04/2020 11:26

I'm with OP. Bill Gates a genuine philanthropist? Yeah right.

Jesus. I sometimes wish I was stupid. It makes life so much easier.

I'm even more appalled by the cries for having this thread removed. Where are we? China? North Korea? Get a bloody grip and let people discuss and, more importantly, tolerate different opinions. Even when they seem far fetched for your - keep a bloody open mind.

Most of you probably also believe that this virus def. originated from this animal market in Wuhan. Some people here are so gullible.

frumpety · 15/04/2020 11:27

JudyCoolibar surprised there has been no mention of 'they were all going to die anyway' or 'thousands of people die every day' arguments.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/04/2020 11:27

The speed at which the vaccine is being developed is because
of the worldwide effort and sharing of data, unprecedented
AND
prioritising time / lives over money

Many are following Bill Gates in carrying out all lines of investigation in parallel - which saves a huge amount of time

instead of the practice for every vaccine until now - of trying out each line in turn, waiting for it to be a dud before going to the next - which saves a great deal of money

Scautish · 15/04/2020 11:28

Jesus. I sometimes wish I was stupid

And they say cosmic ordering doesn’t work - I think your wish has been granted!!

(Awaits deletion)

BigChocFrenzy · 15/04/2020 11:31

"The speed at which they are planning to put it out seems to indicate it was already developed before this Covid 19 even appeared."

Tinfoil hat alert !

Research institutes and pharma companies around the world are working on a vaccine

Tens of thousands of scientists in umpteen countries are not in a giant conspiracy

In fact, there will probably be a dozen slightly different vaccines, as no one company can possibly supply even the wealthy countries in time
