Put aside vaxxer/antivaxxer hats for a little please. Does this bother anyone? Do people not have a choice? Are we losing our freedom before our very eyes?

You should only ever have freedoms to the extent that your actions don't harm others , and we have already seen antivaxers refusing measles jabs, which then puts at risk people who had had the vaccination ( because it's not 100% effective)

No, I don't agree with it. I'd need hell of a lot more confidence in all the authorities in the UK before I'd support compulsory vaccination.

There's no one size fits all with regards to vaccines, there can be severe side effects if not tested well etc etc... with such laws however, gives no room for dissent.

Is that not a concern?

Agree completely @scamander I'm not putting my health - or possibly my life - on the line to protect a specific group of people. It's going much too far

Disturbing. I have a full blown phobia of needles, as in it was deemed unsafe to take blood from me in pregnancy, not even knowing my blood type. I need sedation. Dp takes dd for her vax, I simply cant
No way would I ever agree to it, they would need a court order and restraints for me.

I find this quite disturbing too. I'm not remotely anti-vax but I have neurological issues that mean I react unpredictably to even the safest medications. This would not be safe for me.

I am VERY strongly pro vaccination, but forced vaccination has a very bad history. Whenever countries have tried to force vaccination on citizens, it usually results in an increase in anti-vaccination rhetoric---the act of forcing vaccination on people just feeds people's paranoia. The great majority of people who need the vaccine will have it. Add in all the people who will have natural immunity by that point, and there will be more than enough immunity to go round. We don't need every single person to be immune, just most of them.

Stoking anti vax paranoia is something we really really don't need right now. Already, healthcare workers are talking about the fact that we could well see outbreaks of vaccine preventable childhood diseases (measles, pertussis etc.) in the next few years, because the current situation (parents being scared to take kids in for routine vaccines, confusion about whether vaccinations are still going on, the likelihood of a deep recession which will throw a lot of families into chaos) makes it likely that an increased number of young kids are going to end up with patchy vaccination records anyway. A resurgence in the anti vax movement would make the situation far worse.

Making it mandatory is problematic, but there should be a very strong push to make sure anyone refusing it has a valid medical reason to do so, and until a sufficient number of the population have had it anyone who has not has to continue to socially distance.

Wouldnt you prefer that to say your dc not being allowed at school or you not to go public transport or food shops. Or never be able to visit your parents etc. Also because its not just the risk you might get slightly ill.
Its the spreading it. Symptomatic or asymptomatic. Or on your clothes etc.
You also shouldnt be allowed in a gp or hospital...

I think it's different if people are allergic.

A 20 something nurse died as have other young people. Yes in smaller numbers. But there is higher risk in people with diabetes or high bp, asthma, obesity, etc etc. Many people have conditions that they dont know.
Some with have high bp after pregnancy others high blood sugars after gestational diabetes. Aids or TB or pcos. Some fit people seriously ill because they ran too many marathons.

They said in uk if they released the 20-30yo then 630 would likely die.

They dont know the long term consequences of this virus. Permanent lung damage and infertility in boys have been talked about. As has reactivation. Or getting it more than once. Obviously these are issues for a vax too.

I agree with this. Forced vaccination is too much, but rights and responsibilities go hand in hand - if you want all the benefits of being part of society, you've got to be prepared to fulfil your responsibilities to that society too.

I'm all for it. Completely overrule the absolute idiots who do not deserve any airtime for their stupidity. Only reason not to is those who literally can't for medical reasons. A lot of time and prep and safety checking goes into vaccines and that can't all be for nothing due to too many low IQ spanners who think they are being clever preventing the herd immunity effect widespread vaccines give.

Very concerning. I'm not anti-vax at all but I wouldn't want a vaccination that hasn't been thoroughly tested as they usually take a long time (years) to get tested and approved.

To answer that, we'd need to know more about how they've tested positive again - e.g. whether they've been infected by more than one strain. At least one of the potential vaccines I was reading about works by training the body to recognise a certain part of the virus's genome which doesn't appear to mutate. So, in theory, that vaccine would protect against all different strains.

It takes a very long time to develop and trial a safe vaccine, I'm sure they started developing a vaccine for SARS ....whatever happened to that 🤔

Most countries have laws enforcing treatment and/or containment for infectious diseases for the public good. Not a new thing.

B1rdbra1n sadly the SARS vaccine efforts were shelved due to cuts in funding when the epidemic was over. Had they continued there may well have been more knowledge about coronavirus vaccines to draw from now.

It personally doesn't bother me as I would choose to have it. However, giving people the right to refuse I guess is the right thing to do, there should be consequences such as you carry a cert to say you are immune (due to already having - tested obvs) or you have been vaccinated and without either of these you cant access amenities. That is my take on it.

@PowerslidePanda There is very little info but they did say they THINK they are recurring rather than reinfected so I would imagine the same strain, not mutated.

I grew up with mandatory vaccines according to a vaccination schedule (they were exemptions) - but I can still recall the last smallpox case in my country 1977 and my parents reaction to it - so I am pro mandatory vaccination for potentially society wrecking illnesses.
